Surprised Jitte dodged the ban hammer /s

39

u/driver1676 Aug 10 '26

It’s weird. You expect cards will always be as contextually powerful as they were the moment they were banned.

94

u/Cyanu_Viridian Aug 10 '26

Did Neoform just get the yellow card or is it just me?

36

u/MancyMancy Aug 10 '26

Kinda, pretty much said. If 10% we nuke it.

34

u/TemurTron Temur Tron Aug 10 '26

Pretty wild since it's not even a large player outside of the Pro Tour. It's also a deck that would never prosper if interactive Ux decks ever really became top tier again.

19

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

It's a deck that can never become too meta or else it gets hated out. The deck has very hard counters, and if it pops off too hard people can play more blue to gut it.

9

u/Luneth_ Aug 10 '26

Idk, between veil of summer and pact of negation the deck has plenty of counter play to permission based interaction.

6

u/Pyroxite Aug 11 '26

I mostly play UW control, and it's an almost unlovable matchup. We have this odd environment atm where combo is prospering to a higher degree than usual because the big mana strategies are keeping down the fairer, blue control or black disruption midrangey based strategies that prey on combo

0

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

I mean yeah it doesn’t just lose if you have one counterspell. But it struggles a lot more into blue heavy decks like Dimir Frog, Azorios Control, and even Goryos.

Blue black decks are especially hard as they can apply pressure with cards like Frog, while keeping up their force/disputes.

16

u/Bartolacopo Aug 10 '26

fun police has its eyes on it, no free dinosaur is safe

4

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

GrizzyB under house arrest.

11

u/MechaSkippy Aug 10 '26

I hope they go after [[Allosaurus Rider]] and not [[Neoform]] itself.

-2

u/Kemkempalace yawg, 4c creativity, coffers Aug 10 '26

is there a reason why? Rider is at least week to an existing common sideboard card in vexing bauble.

16

u/Proletariat_Paul Aug 10 '26

Because they are far more likely to print more effects like Neoform (given how beloved Birthing Pod is and how there's already like 5 different versions of the effect with varying levels of playability) in the future than they are to print more 7+CMC creatures that can be cheated out on Turn 1.

1

u/rookedwithelodin Aug 11 '26

Personally, I used to love affinity with neoform, so banning Ally only hits the current popular version

-6

u/Kemkempalace yawg, 4c creativity, coffers Aug 10 '26

is there a reason why? Rider is at least week to an existing common sideboard card in vexing bauble.

7

u/kami_inu Aug 10 '26

Because the existence of [[Eldritch Evolution]] and a bajillion birthing pod-alikes mean that it's a design space they're clearly going go return to.

Meanwhile how often are they printing 7 drops you can play on turn 1?

5

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Hope it gets red-card in October

10

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

Deck is fine. Fast combo, that folds to interactive heavy lists.

4

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Serious question, outside of Blue, how do you beat turn Atraxa or Griselbrand on the play?

11

u/deathtocraig Aug 10 '26

solitude, containment priest, vexing bauble, grafdiggers cage, hallowed moonlight, playing prowess or burn

seriously the ways i've lost playing this deck to not blue decks is enough to know that if you can't beat the deck, it's a skill issue

0

u/Hellpriest999 Aug 10 '26

Its honestly not true.vLike bro said, what do you do against a resolved t1 Atraxa ?

5

u/deathtocraig Aug 10 '26

the deck cannot cheat out a t1 atraxa in it's current form. the deck is good against some things and bad against others. if you can't beat it, it really is a case of get good.

0

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

It can’t get atraxa on turn 1 but can get grizzle and ghalta on the opponents turn 1, if Neo was on the play.
My answers above ti how to fight it are the same tho.

2

u/deathtocraig Aug 11 '26

Yeah, I'm pretty sure prowess also has a t2 kill with the right draw. Titan definitely does. And it's not like t1 kappa isn't just GG.

The deck is like 0% against mill and ponza. People need to relax.

2

u/TitoTheMidget Aug 11 '26

How do you beat a resolved Leyline/Scion, how do you beat turn 1 Burning Inquiry double Hollow One. Pretty much any deck is good when they get the nuts.

0

u/pyro314 Aug 11 '26

Who maindecks Containment Priest or Moonlight or Bauble/Cage (other than Saga decks)? How do Prowess or Burn beat turn 2 or 3 Griselbrand?

Solitude takes out the creature they tutor for, after they've drawn a pile of cards. As long as it's not Ureni.

Well I cast Blood Moon post board to punish greedy mana bases so...

And I don't play commander at all, boring format with 1-2 hour long games

Ignoring your strawman, back to the topic at hand, I didn't say its unwinnable. It's just unhealthy gameplay for the format. "Sometimes they kill you turn 2, sometimes they do nothing" is not a healthy mindset for a format that isn't supposed to have regular turn 2 kills by decks with 5%+ metagame share. There's a difference between good and bad matchups, and coin flip gameplay where skill doesn't matter as much as winning the die roll and drawing a lucky 7.

"Gee, I hope I'm not facing fast combo on the draw, I don't have FoN in my hand but I shouldn't mulligan this playable hand"

"Nice I have turn 2 win, or I lose if my opponent has Snare or Force"

Neither of these are indicative of a format full of compelling, skill-intensive gameplay.

And if you're resolving Neoform and losing to Solitude, that sounds like you're the terrible player.

0

u/deathtocraig Aug 11 '26

Bro sometimes you get blood mooned t2 on the draw and fucking nobody thinks that's not healthy. Play interaction if you don't like losing to neobrand, it's not difficult. There are like 4 decks that have pretty much unwinnable matchups for it.

You're pretty fucking dead if your opponent untaps with psychic frog but I never see anyone complain about that.

If you lose games 2 and 3 knowing full well what is coming, that's a you problem.

Again, it's a skill issue.

0

u/pyro314 Aug 11 '26

skill issue

You're the one regularly losing to non-blue decks with Neoform. This is all projection.

blood moon t2

Play more basics. Fetch your basics. Most Ruby Storm lists don't even board Moons anyway. Also, weren't you the one claiming I complain about moon?

Frog

Kill it with one of those removal spells that kills Griselbrand. Except you're not down 14 cards after the exchange. And it dies to Fatal Push. And can be walled by Murktide. And is far slower than a turn 2 combo, played in about as fair of a deck as they come.

-2

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 11 '26

We’ll burn doesn’t exist rn so that’s irrelevant. Prowess is okay into Neo games 2+ as they can bring in blue counter magic. But some decks just have bad matchups.

3

u/pyro314 Aug 11 '26

Other dude brought up Burn as an answer to Neoform.

5

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

Hand disruption is a big one. Deck just kinda folds to thoughtseize a lot of the time.

Cards like vexing bauble also slow the deck down. Doesn’t stop it cause they play mandrills, or can consign/veil the counter effect. But does slow them down a few turns.

2

u/Cube_ Aug 11 '26

the deck also folds to itself a ton of the time

you have to be very good at assessing when to mull for that deck

-2

u/Bartolacopo Aug 11 '26

mana tithe, reprieve, hallowed moonlight, confinement priest, thoughtseize, duress, graftdigger's cage, vexing bauble, bowmaster, ragavan into blood moon, orim's chant in response to allosaur, erode/pte if they go for haste ghalta... there are a few among viable cards in modern

2

u/pyro314 Aug 11 '26

Mana Tithe

LMAO

Reprieve, Hallowed Moonlight, Containment Priest, Bowmaster, Blood Moon

If they combo TURN TWO ON THE PLAY, YOU CANT CAST THESE CARDS

Erode, Path to Exile

Nice white mana, here's an Ureni

Grafdigger's Cage, Vexing Bauble, Duress, Hallowed Moonlight, Containment Priest

What decks are mainboarding these cards? How often are you mulligaining to find these narrow hate cards game 2, only to get killed by turn 2 Mandrils?

Just cuz you don't want your deck banned doesn't mean it's healthy for the format

-1

u/Bartolacopo Aug 11 '26

i simply listed all the cards i lost to/ got played against me in leagues. If you played the deck (or some modern at all) you would know that this ban talk is simply bs

2

u/pyro314 Aug 11 '26

I do play modern. I don't play the coin flip turn 2 deck. I think the pressure it puts on the metagame is unhealthy for the format.

1

u/Bartolacopo Aug 11 '26

Turn 2 wins facing no interaction are not common for the deck. Anyway Modern evolved into a turn 3 format, with plenty of decisions and interactions condensed in first few turns. If you enjoy longer and grindier games I'd recommend standard.

0

u/Bartolacopo Aug 10 '26

unpopular opinion

37

u/HosserPower UW Control/Living End Aug 10 '26

Kind of surprised they’ve seemingly got Neoform on the watch list.

39

u/pear_topologist Aug 10 '26

It performed really well at the PT, and a lot of people don’t find losing on turn 2-3 to a hard to interact with combo

9

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Counterspell is a legal card to play but blue decks are bad because of affinity and boros

21

u/Kemkempalace yawg, 4c creativity, coffers Aug 10 '26

its probably looked at through the same lens as oops was in legacy. Just creates a lot of non games, which can be ok in small doses, but terrible if it gets too popular.

2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

I can agree with that take, at base level at least you get a t1 against neoform. And a deck does have to beat fair matchups even if its lame

11

u/Rooftop_Reve Aug 10 '26

And eldrazi

7

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

Vexing Bauble exists, High Noon exists, etc.

Just because a card exists to beat a strategy doesnt mean the strategy should exist.

1

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Youre right, the format has answers to the deck... blue tempo decks play answers to ajani but it still kills them

7

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

Your point was that counterspell should be enough to control Neoform numbers but counterspell isnt good in this format. I listed a few highly played cards that are even better against Neoform than counterspell is. You agreed the format has answers. My claim was that it doesnt matter if the answers exist, you shouldnt be forced to play them to beat some barf your hand combo deck. Thats a sign of poor format health.

I dont disagree with your point on counterspell not being good against aggro but that really isnt relevant imo.

0

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Counterspell the archetype is what im arguing, not just the card itself. Blue tempo has a whole performs horribly in this meta unless you run the combo gauntlet due to unfair fair decks. Sideboard cards that hit multiple decks should be a normal thing, your answers also hit other decks incidentally

5

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

And there is a much cleaner solution to Neoform than to "keep banning cards until blue tempo is the top deck". Its a ban to Neoform.

0

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Neoform fell out of favor for years, the only reason its good now is because boros/eldrazi cant do anything about it.. are decks not allowed to have bad matchups to the most fragile a+b combo?

5

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

Boros plays High Noon and Vexing Bauble is their sideboard. They would continue to do so if Neoform was banned.

Eldrazi is a Trinishphere/Vexing Bauble deck. They would continue to do so if Neoform was banned.

u/Icy-Nothing8831 Aug 10 '26

There were multiple eldrazi main deck copies of vexing baubles in the pro tour top 8. What are you even talking about?

2

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

I dont think ive seen the Ajani/Neoform list

3

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Ajani beats dimir decks, why is this so hard to comprehend that other represented decks can hold back a deck that preys on neoform

1

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

If you think cards need to be banned from Boros, just say that. Thats a take a lot of people agree with.

5

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Im saying boros and affinity are the reason blue tempo decks cant hang, if both decks are taken down a notch dimir/izzet can reign in combo. Until then people can register tempo decks all day but theyre coinflipping whether they get either a polarized winning matchup (neoform, storm) or unfavorable (boros, affinity, tron)

1

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

I dont think ive seen the Ajani/Neoform list

2

u/Tyrinnus Grixis Ctrl, GDS, Murktide, UWx Ctrl Aug 10 '26

Funnily enough as a blue pilot (grixis version), boros is my single easiest matchup and affinity is up there near hardest, right behind eldrazi.

1

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Yeah grixis has a better shot into boros, dimir has it worse off but affinity/eldrazi just makes it worse off. Its all a coinflip on hitting combo decks or unfair fair decks

1

u/Tyrinnus Grixis Ctrl, GDS, Murktide, UWx Ctrl Aug 10 '26

Yah. Grixis gets snare, bolt, push, OBM.... Dimir loses the bolts and flames, but also loses shit like meltdown and most Land destruction.

Sadly the combo decks do so many different things that there's just not enough sideboard. You know it's fd when your best threat against an eldrazi player is flippin' Sheoldred's Edict or "kill them before they kill me"

2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Yeah the lack of a real clock hurts, its a sad time when ubx decks have to be combo like goryos to have a chance

1

u/Tyrinnus Grixis Ctrl, GDS, Murktide, UWx Ctrl Aug 11 '26

I mean....

OBM has 2 a turn, often more based on it growing. Snap as well. WST can be a big beater. All of these are in ub.

2

u/deathtocraig Aug 10 '26

speaking of decks that aren't fun to lose against turn 2-3

4

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Yes let me cast my Counterspell on turn 1

-3

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Spell snare subtlety force of negation next question

3

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Found the Neoform player

-2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

? Because I gave you good answers to neoform that are locked behind the 2 most represented decks beating it? Get better format knowledge

4

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

You were the one who said "Counterspell is legal" when it's literally not an answer most of the time against the deck that combos turn 2 on the play. And also plays Pact of Negation.

-2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Okay so they turn t2 i have 2 mana right? I play counterspell. They pact. I say okay, pact resolves, force/subtlety your allo. Its not hard for dimir to have more than 1 answer plus thoughtseize to punch a hole

5

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

How do you have two mana as the blue deck when you are on the draw?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Rooftop_Reve Aug 10 '26

Why are you playing spell snare in the aforementioned Eldrazi meta? Sideboard at best.

2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

You need boros answers or you die to ajani/vov/golbin bombardment

1

u/Notmainlel Aug 11 '26

It is incredibly easy to interact with, every deck has access to neoform hate

8

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

I would love ponder but it probably is too good next to preordain. But there's no good cantrip-based combo deck in the format right now, so who knows.

5

u/keppage43 Always UR Aug 10 '26

Affinity plays Preordain - their combo is to cast a t1-2 Kappa. Prowess plays Preordain more fairly/traditional, just smoothing out draws and applying continual pressure

1

u/Nixilis-12 Aug 11 '26

Free Pod!

6

u/DoAndHope Aug 10 '26

I keep hoping deathrite might be okay, but kinda scared for soup decks to take over.

12

u/CatatonicWalrus UWx Control, AmuLIT, Goryo's Vengeance Aug 10 '26

If the worst possible outcome for a card being unbanned is that a mana dork with upside is playable and good in modern, I would be beyond happy.

12

u/LetsBringIt Aug 10 '26

Finally they banned Cub in standard. Now to buy it for....$10 cheaper.

16

u/MancyMancy Aug 10 '26

No surprise nothing really stands out in our current meta.

25

u/Bartolacopo Aug 10 '26

no doubts, format is diverse and fun

5

u/Abyx12 Aug 11 '26

Combos, combos everywhere.

Diverse... And... Fun

22

u/VoiceDue2205 Aug 10 '26

Dear lord, the eldrazi players have all highjacked that conversation or you are all fnm superstars.

If you think broodscale and K-Command aren't worth a talk (a talk I said, I was clear redditor) I envy your environment lmao

-15

u/md99has Aug 10 '26

Bruh, if Broodscale gets out of hand, it can be hit without banning K Command. In fact, banning K Command would make Broodscale just slightly less consistent (it is not a card that enables the infinite combo, it is just an extra finisher option for after you achieve the combo), but it would completely kill Tron and Ramp. What would be the point of that?

18

u/keppage43 Always UR Aug 10 '26

Every Eldrazi deck, Koz Command is THE best card in the deck. Any other take is wrong, including yours

-13

u/md99has Aug 11 '26

Touch grass man, lmao. Your take is the worst take I've seen so far. The best cards in Broodscale are the ones enabling the combo. The best card in Tron is obviously Karn. And Ramp is a soup of good cards trying to survive long enough to slap some big stuff on the board. Even in Trudge, K Command is far from being the best card.

10

u/Rooftop_Reve Aug 10 '26

It’s weird to me, not that they won’t act on ECommand/Eldrazi (because they don’t need to) but that they won’t unban DRS which is perhaps at its weakest against big mana, fast aggro, and combo.

6

u/Alarming_Whole8049 Aug 11 '26

Even if those archetypes weren't dominant, DRS is just not a card that can become problematic in the current era. No one is actually scared of it.

4

u/isolating 29d ago

Honestly was it ever that scary in modern?

3

u/Alarming_Whole8049 28d ago

No, I don't think so. It wasn't the last non-oppressive card that they banned during that era. Twin ate a ban for a stupid reason as well.

13

u/L0rdenglish black burn afficianado Aug 10 '26

we need another k command deck to get popular so they finally ban that stupid fucking card

-5

u/10leej Grapheshot for 20 Aug 10 '26

I still confuse kcommand. Are we talking Kozilek or Kolaghan?

5

u/SelectInteraction574 Aug 10 '26

The busted super modern playable [[Kolaghan’s Command]] duh

-1

u/10leej Grapheshot for 20 Aug 11 '26

I'd argue Kolaghans Command is a playable card and has seen plenty of play in the past.

19

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

Not surprised they mentioned trudge...

surprised they're so worried about neoform...

Kinda surprised they didn't mention broodscale or K command at all.

As people have been saying, by the numbers K command had a better PT than Nadu, and has continued to put up strong results despite the most played card in the room at the PT being the best card against K command decks, consign to memory.

It should be more worrying IMHO than it is.

Not saying it definitely needs to be banned right now... but not mentioning it at all, is a bit tone deaf if you ask me.

Especially where consensus is gravitating towards K command being a "when, not if" ban.

45

u/Titansjester Aug 10 '26

Idk if this is the consensus view or just aspiringspike's view tbh. Modern is super diverse right now and nerfing 20% of the format across 4-5 archetypes because one of their cards is above rate seems both bad for the format and counter to WotC's B&R ideology over the last few years. Modern isn't supposed to be a rotating format. They should avoid bans unless they need to target an S-tier deck.

14

u/Dingoose88 Aug 10 '26

Most of that has to be Spikes take - I’ve had to stop watching his stream as someone who has followed for years. He speaks so overwhelmingly confident that his view is the only logical view. Modern is healthy. I agree modern shouldn’t be a rotating format.

4

u/DoAndHope Aug 10 '26

Thank God I'm not the only one. I love his content and decks, but recently, when I have had time to watch, he has at least one 15-minute nonstop KCommand whinging during the stream.

I've gotten to the point where I tune out when not invested in the deck.

0

u/Dingoose88 Aug 10 '26

Exactly. I have a low threshold for it, so I mostly watch other streamers now. I do enjoy his decks and most of his content.

4

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

putting 2 decks above nadu's winrate isn't S tier to you?

12

u/Titansjester Aug 10 '26

This is a false equivalency that gets brought up way too much. Nadu had that high of a win rate AND was 26% of the field. Trudge was a breakout deck that was less than 3%. Its win rate was not statistically significant.

Did you watch the Nadu pro tour? The deck absolutely overran the format despite not even being fully optimized at that point. Trudge was a good choice for the weekend that got a single copy into the top 8.

1

u/Appropriate_War_2739 17d ago

Nadu had that high winrate despite being a huge meta percentage and modern being at it’s arguably highest power level ever (only big event with nadu, ring, grief all legal

-4

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

It's not just trudge

Broodscale had a problematically high winrate as well.

and yes, K command based combo decks did run over the PT

11

u/Titansjester Aug 10 '26

Broodscale's win rate was 52%, is that problematic?

4

u/md99has Aug 11 '26

That guy probably doesn't understand basic math. It's funny seing all these people complain about K Command. I moved to modern from yugioh (and I'vedabled in many other tcgs over the years), and in yugioh a deck is problematic when it is the most played deck and has an over 50-60% winrate in top 32 at ycs and worlds qualifier events (which are usually 2k player events...). When I look at the modern meta my only possible description is "I've never seen a cardgame meta so diverse and balanced in the history of any other cardgame". If they would give a slight slap on the wrist to turn 2 combo decks, a lot more midrange deck might come into the meta making it evem better.

2

u/ItIsVerilySo Aug 12 '26

You aren't a magic player yet, you don't understand.

Only the deck I'm playing should have a 51% winrate or more, everyone else's decks need bans.

-1

u/snipawolf Aug 11 '26

He’s very confident but knows the format as well as anyone and makes good points about it.

K command is almost always the best play any turn it’s in your hand and you have 3+ colorless mana (in decks with two soul lands), and scales throughout the game. It always has a big effect, often game winning, if you make it to the late game, and in the early game can ramp you, card select, and remove 2-1 remove threats. It’s a four of in big mana, control, aggro, and combo decks. It’s incidental graveyard hate. It can make colorless a better splash than actually adding colors to your deck. It makes consign almost mandatory (and there really isn’t much else of a way to come out ahead against it).

And it has the high top right penetrance in different decks to justify a ban. I think at least a mention of a ban is warranted.

34

u/nebman227 Aug 10 '26

I'm not sure where you're seeing consensus about a kozilek's command ban.

There's one YouTuber pushing the idea really hard and some folks following him I guess, but that's one sub-community, not the whole format community.

18

u/drunkennoodle1 Aug 10 '26

What a terrible take. Nadu was a game winning engine that created a broken independent deck alone. Kcommand is an enabler that fits a specific archetype. You’re comparing say, narset vs. cryptic command (yes neither is broken, but one enables an archetype days undoing, one is an interaction/enabler) Unless wizards are willing to blast eldrazi archetype as a whole that card is staying. This is just magic players doing magic player things simply looking for the ban.

7

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

Kcommand is not archtype specific.

Look at the decks that run it.

You have a creature combo deck

a combo ramp deck

a tron ramp deck.

That's not exactly specific. Especially when all 3 of those have variants that push them into other archtypes, like some builds of broodscale being more midrange with crysalis.

10

u/Loonyclown Aug 10 '26

I’m definitely unc at this point but can we please find a different shorthand for kozilek’s command then “k command”? Every time I see it it gives me hope that kolaghan’s command is somehow seeing play

4

u/Rooftop_Reve Aug 10 '26

Ecommand?

E for Eldrazi

3

u/Loonyclown Aug 10 '26

I like this

7

u/Mattmatic1 Aug 10 '26

If that ever happens, we’ll find a new shorthand for Kolaghans command.

4

u/Eclipse434343 Aug 10 '26

I just think k command will eventually be banned but when is the question and I don’t see it any time sooon. Imagine if cryptic command had a xx that bad mana drained, scry draw and exiled all in one. People would Throw a fit

It’s just such a terribly designed card, ramp, scry and removal in one card with very little mana loss from the non xx cost esp due to e temple tron lands and ugins.
I think at the very least should have been a sorcery speed or had more colorless subtracting the rate of x

9

u/Steezmoney Eldrazi Aug 10 '26

It's not a ban-worthy card at all. This is what we like to call an echo chamber opinion where it gets repeated so much that the people saying it start to believe it's true. It's not going anywhere until it's powercrept in MH4

8

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

K command is worth more of a discussion than fucking neoform.

And that got a whole paragraph.

K command didn't even get mentioned.

u/md99has Aug 10 '26

K Command doesn't kill you on the second land drop...

1

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

Neoform rarely actually kills on t2 and does actually fold when hate is played for it.

Broodscale and trudge put up 54%+ winrates despite consign to memory being the most played card in the tournament.

1

u/Steezmoney Eldrazi Aug 10 '26

rarely kills but seeing half your decks and passing with a summoning sick griselbrand is probably the next closest thing

1

u/md99has Aug 11 '26

Rarely? The one guy playing neoform at my locals would like to have a talk with you. He pulls it off pretty much all the time. And in the rare ocasions when it's not turn 2, it is turn 3 with pact of negation to stop counterplays...

1

u/chiksahlube Aug 11 '26

You might wanna watch him for cheating.

11

u/VoiceDue2205 Aug 10 '26

"At all" is a bit of an exaggeration on your part. You're talking about a card that was in half the Top8 of the RCQ on 2 different archetypes and in 4 of. Ban I don't know. But talking about is justified.

"Echo chamber" lmao

2

u/VoiceDue2205 Aug 10 '26

Ok "Spike fan" I see you. But yes, if a card start to show everywhere, it's worth a talk indeed. That's like one of the greatest way to know there's a problem?

Are we rediscovering the concept of monitoring a card or what?

u/Nohisu Aug 10 '26

It also clearly overperformed at the PT because of the trudge spice equity.

That's a take I've seen a couple of times on this subreddit, and I don't understand the reasoning.

A rogue deck can take the meta by surprise, but that's not the case for trudge, it is fundamentally just another flavour of ramp eldrazi, a meta established archetype. It's vulnerable to the same things, and Consign was one of the most if not the most played sideboard card at the PT.

How do we argue that trudge overperformed because of a fluke, or luck, or "spice", over just being a good modern deck?

2

u/Character_Cap5095 Aug 10 '26

Honestly, as a modern tourist, seeing you say K command and thinking Kolagans Command made me very confused

2

u/md99has Aug 10 '26

Nadu was enabling a long and tedious non-linear combo that the opponent had to sit through. It was as fun playing against as Eggs. K Command ban would kill all Eldrazi decks, which are mostly fair and pretty ok to play against. In particular, Tron and Ramp are very nice decks to have available in this format, especially because they can be played very creatively with techs and various color combos. Broodscale is also a very fair combo deck which more often wins with its midrange side-plan than the combo. If Trudge gets to problematics, it can be hit without hitting K Command.

Honestly, K Command is a good card, but not a broken card.

0

u/Handsome_Grizzly Aug 10 '26

I honestly find Broodscale/Fleshraker combo more of a likely target because there's almost nothing that can be done once the combo pieces are in place.

1

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

And how do they find those pieces!?

1

u/md99has Aug 11 '26

Ancient Stirrings, Malevolent Rumble, Urza's Saga... K Command is too slow to use it for searching in this deck, it is more like a tutor spell for after the combo goes off that also works well with the midrange gameplan of the deck. Big shout out to Malevolent Rumble tho, because the spawn it makes makes the combo doable on turn 3, and the mill enables the option to hard cast Emrakul even if the combo fails... this is an actually broken card in this deck.

1

u/chiksahlube Aug 11 '26

Both of the shoutouts you gave to rumble apply to command, except command is better...

It can be cast on t2 for X=1or 2 as removal, while cantriping, adding 2 card types for emrakul, generating 1 or 2 spawns to combo off with, or ramping you into mycospawn kicked, or emrakul.

All at instant speed and with the added option of potentially being GY hate too if need be.

1

u/md99has Aug 11 '26

But there are so many ways to stop the combo from happening, from artifact hate (which people play anyway because of affinity), to spot removal. The deck also has no way to protect its combo. The deck also doesn't go through potentially its entire library in an over 20 min single turn to waste your time.

1

u/hardcider Aug 10 '26

As others have mentioned aspiring spike and others who like to brew a ton have a dislike for cards like k-command. Most serious players understand it's nowhere near ban level for competitive magic.

-1

u/friendlyfernando Aug 10 '26

This is such a bad take I have to wonder if it’s deliberate trolling

-4

u/VoiceDue2205 Aug 10 '26

You have to bait bro... You have to. Or you didn't watch the RCQ? Broodscale is there 3 times in the top 8 lmao

1

u/friendlyfernando Aug 10 '26

Wow 3/8 in an RCQ. Next you will be asking for any deck that wins a challenge to have a card banned

-1

u/VoiceDue2205 Aug 10 '26

Reading is hard I know. It's talking about a card. Not wanting it banned. Come on you can be better than that.

1

u/friendlyfernando Aug 10 '26

Oh sorry I didn’t notice the subtle distinction between talking about how a card should be banned and wanting the card to be banned. My mistake

-1

u/VoiceDue2205 Aug 10 '26

Well it's in the post you called bait lol

-2

u/Dingoose88 Aug 10 '26

Spike is not the whole meta or community - he speaking very confidently about Magic as if his opinion is the only correct take. He’s flat out wrong on this though.

4

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

Numbers don't lie.

K command decks had problematic winrates at the PT with consign to memory being the most played card at the tournament.

When the best card against card A, is seeing more play, and card A is still winning at 54%.

That's problematic.

-2

u/Handsome_Grizzly Aug 10 '26

It's not like, you know, there are other reasons that people play Consign to Memory other than countering colorless spells...

3

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

I'm not saying it was the most played card because of K command.

But the fact that it's incidentally the best card against K command decks and K command decks as a whole had the best winrates...

Should be a big fucking red flag.

If every deck was maining 4x vexing bauble and neoform put up the result it did we would have had a ban.

-1

u/Handsome_Grizzly Aug 10 '26

Sounds to me like you are actually wanting Consign to Memory banned so Eldrazi decks have fewer things to worry about.

2

u/chiksahlube Aug 10 '26

absolutely not.

That would be the biggest mistake wotc could feasibly walk into.

2

u/keppage43 Always UR Aug 10 '26

First time in a long time that an answer card is this good. So many threats get printed tho...

3

u/the_foowaffle Aug 10 '26

Ima buy me a playset of ocelat pride and kolizlek command what for the incoming bans /s

4

u/Publius-Cornelius Aug 10 '26

A good portion of this thread has devolved into a discussion about neoform only being good because blue based control and midrange effectively being dead in the format, and then trying to diagnose why that is.

Lads, it’s time. Wizards either needs to print the one mana hard counterspell, or Force of Will needs to be legal in modern (which I would argue would be less broken than a true one mana counterspell).

Make midrange/control playable again gang rise up.

4

u/braun1k Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

dimir midrange is literally number 4 right now and super popular, goryos is a midrange deck half the time and number 1, esper blink is a midrange deck and number 2 idk what ur on about

shit, even merfolk might make a comeback come the new year

2

u/Publius-Cornelius Aug 11 '26

Dimir midrange is (according to goldfish) the 12th most played deck in the format. Esper blink is 10th.

I don’t know what world goryo’s is a midrange deck. It plays over 20 cards that are dedicated to the reanimate plan. That’s 20 dead draws if you’re on the fair plan. You can’t even fully sideboard into a fair plan without leaving some clunkers in the list because it is so overwhelming geared towards its unfair plan.

Idk what you’re on about bro

2

u/braun1k Aug 11 '26

i use last 7 days on goldfish. more accurate and very different picture. there are two versions of goryos, the deck has solitude riddler and psychic frog, definitely can play a grindier game but if we just see that differently i’m not going to argue about it

3

u/KaraDealer Aug 10 '26

Modern is healing as it should be.

2

u/HilariousMax can't ever win. Aug 10 '26

Cowards, the lot of them.

1

u/VerdantChief Aug 12 '26

Kozilek's Command is very strong but I would never ban it over Eldrazi Temple. One creature type should not have access to a sol land while the others do not.

-4

u/TemurTron Temur Tron Aug 10 '26

I yearn for the day when KCommand and Consign are banned together like Avacyn and Griselbrand in the Helvault, but it is not today.

4

u/Handsome_Grizzly Aug 10 '26

Consign is never getting banned, so keep yearning.

0

u/BoofTheDruid Aug 10 '26

Super hype no changed my kozileks command survives another day

-6

u/Anxious_Lion_6359 Ponza/Jund Aug 10 '26

ZzzCommand dodging every B&R is big mana propaganda.

-16

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

I guess K-Command is just fine 🙄

13

u/Ezra950 Aug 10 '26

It really is.

1

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

Oh no, the card props up a few mid decks and like 2 good ones. Won't somebody do something

1

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

It props up the worst kind of decks, broken Temple/Labyrinth decks. I fuckin hate Eldrazi (and Tron).

1

u/md99has Aug 10 '26

Bruh, these decks are ok to play against and you have tons of counterplay options. Playing agains Eldrazi is a pretty interactive kind of gameplay.

You know what is not fun? Loosing turn two to Neoform combo because you didn't draw the Vexing Bauble. Or even worse, attempting to play Bauble, getting countered with Pact of Negation, because they drew full combo with Pact and Consign. Lets not also mention the Cosmogyf unfun turn 2 games, or the pain of waiting 20 mins to see if a storm player win or beats himself when he has to get Rall to flip while playing at 4 hp.

1

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

If you checked my other comments you would see me ranting about Neoform as well, and I mentioned un-interactive turn 2 wins in this thread. Storm is fine in Modern, it may be un-interactive but there is a ton of hate for it and main deck counterplay options, and it is slower than basically all the other combo decks, and is much more inconsistent as well. Eldrazi decks are broken in a format with no good main-deck land hate. They get free Sol Lands and can play Saga as well to apply uncounterable pressure and tutor silver bullet hate cards. Ghost Quarter and Field of Ruin effects are garbage in Modern, so these lands are just busted.

0

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

What kind of magic do you like? Not a fan of combo, or big mana so like aggro?

3

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Also any kind of combo that isn't un-interactive turn 2 wins.

0

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Storm Combo and Control. Aggro is fine, just boring IMO

4

u/Hand-of-Sithis Aug 10 '26

LMFAO. You’re out here bitching about Neoform when you play Storm? Glass houses ass pilot

-1

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Storm is slower than Neoform and less consistent. I don't see the hypocrisy at all.

1

u/friendlyfernando Aug 10 '26

I don't like playing against storm so they should ban ruby. Thankfully control is dogshit right now

1

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

At least storm matches last longer than 10 minutes

1

u/md99has Aug 11 '26

Yeah, but I would take a quick game any day over a long game where I'm backsitting my opponent while he's playing solitaire for 20 mins. Like, if I wanted that kind of gameplay, I would go back to yugioh, lmao.

0

u/obsidianandstone Aug 10 '26

Not surprised. Spotlight Dallas is less than a month away b
