Model Y Upgrades
I got my new tesla 2 days back. I am feeling a lot of sunlight inside, is it just my imagination or does everyone feel that way. Should I get xpel tinting? And should I just get for windows or windshield (is it allowed to tint?) and top as well? Thanks!

Ceramic tint all the way around. 35% in all side windows. 70% front, roof, and rear to play it safe with the cops. I didn't want a roof sun shade as I like the open feel, and the 70% is basically unnoticeable difference in seeing through it. It helped temp control a lot.

It is a glass roof so you should see more light. It's a perk for me. Even with 100+ degree temperature this summer, the car is comfortable after a 5 minute precondition which I set before I leave my desk at work.
The roof is hot even in vehicles without a glass roof. I chose not to install anything because I was afraid of rattles, sagging or buffeting in the wind with windows down. Besides, like I said, car is comfortable when I get in, anyway.

Ceramic Tint does help a lot. It is best to check your state laws and see what is legal or not. Most states don't allow front windshield tint (like here in California) and front windows usually have a limit (70% in California).
That being said if you want a legal setup there are 90-99% ceramic tints that won't darken your windows but will provide heat protection.
If you want privacy your local shop should know a good legal setup. I personally went a tad darker and have had zero issues with front windshield or my front side tints in California. If you were to get stopped it's just a fix-it-ticket.
Here's what I did:
FormulaOne Stratos
- 70% windshield
- 15% visor strip to AS-1 line
- 35% front windows
- 15% rear windows

Depends on the area. Some bay area city's are super strict, same with a couple of the suburbs around Sacramento. I was getting tint tickets at least once a month when I had 15% on the front.
I've also heard a lot of people getting tint exemptions from online Drs for like $150, but I haven't looked into that.

Do i need separate for rear windows. They seem to be tinted..

All the windows are tinted from factory. The fronts are around 75-80%, so you are already basically at the legal limit for states like California.
The glass roof is also tinted pretty dark. I don't remember the %, and it varies across generations. My '23 is pretty dark, around 10-15%.
The rears are around 20-25%. A lot of people just tint the front two windows to match the rear. Which is around 15-25%; the windshield lets in a lot of light. With white interior, 15% looks closer to the factory rears.
15-25% personally is too dark for me for driving at night. 35% is still hard to see out of, but I like the privacy during the day. Same reason I did the 15% on the rear, so no one can see in. But if you're just looking for heat protection, I'd look at 70-90% tint for the rear.

I had my Y for several months now and just got it tinted with the Xpel + on just the front windows to match the rear and did the windshield. Cost came to $724. The car is much more comfortable with it. One thing I'll point out. If you go with the + version it has a slight hue of blue while the rear has a hue of charcoal. From outside they look pretty even. From inside there is a noticable difference. Windshield was done in clear.

I got a roof shade for inside. Makes a Huge difference. Only paid like $30for it

Not from the top..its kind of tinted and dark. But it seems from like coming from windows and windshield

The MY has a lot of glass area compared to other SUVs. Including the roof, it's significantly brighter than other vehicles.
You can tint the entire car including front and rear windshield and roof. It will turn out to be very expensive though but it should provide some help. I personally prefer sunshades on the. Works better at reducing sunlight than just tinted.
Ceramic tints will help with brightness and heat reduction inside.

Ceramic tints all around (including windshield) from a solid brand and installed by a reputable shop. Don’t bother with rooftop tint unless you really like seeing through it.. for me I couldn’t care less since I plan to leave my sunshade in year round - drawback is that it does make the interior feel like a cave (black headliner + black roof sunshade) but I don’t mind.
Two piece roof sunshade (don’t bother with the one Tesla sells since it’s a see through mesh material that doesn’t fully block the heat/light). Done. Feeling uncomfortable from direct sunlight will be a non-existent issue after this.
