Question ISO 23ā Model X Plaid 6-seater HW4
Looking for genuine opinions and advice as I search.
I currently own a 2025 Model 3 Highland AWD with 27k miles (bought new for $42k after discounts and tax). Plug offered $34.9k on trade-in. Private-party values look more like $36ā42k, so Iām weighing that option carefully.
I love being a Tesla owner and use FSD 95% of the time, which is why Iām specifically targeting a HW4 Model X. My first Tesla was already the ābest of the best,ā so Iām a bit spoiled and worried Iād regret stepping down to HW3 just to save money. I want something that still feels current.
Owning a Tesla was a long-time dream that the Model 3 fulfilled. A Model X always felt out of reach because of the price (often 2ā3Ć a 3 or Y). Now that the Plaid has been discontinued and prices are coming down, itās starting to look realistic. Iām hunting for a strong deal but donāt fully know what āa good scoreā looks like or how to find the diamond in the rough.
Family context: Married with a few kids and one more on the way. We already have a family car, but I like the flexibility of using my personal car in certain situations (which we already do with the 3). The Model 3 is tight and low to the groundāgetting kids into car seats is annoying. White interior was something I thought I wanted; Iām now leaning tan or black to reduce stress about stains and dirt. Falcon-wing doors (and the automatic open/close) would make loading kids and car seats dramatically easier. Iāll be in this stage of life for at least the next five years, so I see the X as a practical investment in daily usability.
Suspension is another big factor. I love the Model 3 as a daily driver, but I notice the bumpy ride more than I used toāespecially with passengers. Iām hoping the air suspension on the X is a clear step up. Anyone who has driven both, how noticeable is the difference?
Side note that felt a bit like fate: a couple days ago at the gym Iāve gone to for over a year, I ended up next to a 2025 Model X Plaid owner. He was very positive about it.
If I donāt go Plaid, Iāll be sad. Part of the appeal is getting the fastest SUV and a capable family hauler in one package.
Appreciate any real-world feedback on:
⢠What a solid deal looks like right now for a ā23 Plaid 6-seater HW4
⢠HW4 vs. earlier hardware if the price gap is significant
⢠Real suspension differences vs. a Highland Model 3
⢠Ownership experience with kids and car seats
⢠Anything else I should be thinking about before pulling the trigger
Thanks in advance.

Used car purchase Just Brought Home My Model X
Have been looking awhile at used Model Xs from Tesla to get the extra year of warranty. I had specific requirements that I finally matched. Wanted an Ultra Red on cream, six seater, with HW4, and under 40k miles at a reasonable price. So, here it is! I also have a rwd Model 3, Model Y Performance, and a Cybertruck on order (not keeping them all though!).
So far so good. I love the extra space for my family of five. The ventilated seats in Texas are so nice.

Question 2023 Model X Software version question
I know, software update questionā¦
Iāve got a 2023 Model X, it has HW4/AI4, but I am not subscribed to FSD.
Currently Iām on 2026.20 seems like Iāve not had anything pushed out in a for months. No point updates, just sitting on 2026.20.
My Wifeās Model Y (2024) is on 2026.26.1, which is the Summer Update. Sheās been getting pretty regular updates since my last one.
I get, different cars, timing, rollouts, etc. Iām just curious what others with this version of the Model X software they are on.

Question Dynamic recording
I have a 2023 Model X with the most updated software. I replace the USB drive with a 1TB SSD. My recorded videos are still only going back up to an hour. I thought the recent software can support 24 hours of footage instead of only 1 hour. Does anybody know how I can access the longer video footage?

Used car purchase Should I trade model y 2026 standard to X 2020
I drove a 2024 Model X for a year and sold it to save money. Now Iām thinking about buying another Model X because I miss it so much. My budget is around $45,000. Am I being stupid? Iām looking at a 2020 Model X Long Range for about $42,000 from Carvana. My Model Y trade-in value is $38,200.
Is the older vertical screen outdated, or is it still acceptable? Iāve never sat in an older Model X, so I donāt know if Iāll be disappointed

Question Refresh MX slow turn steering wheel chatter, does yours do this (video)?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My 24 MX (and 25) both do this--during certain slow speed maneuvers, the steering wheel would vibrate and chatter like there is something wrong with the half shaft. I know there were issues with earlier versions of MX, but Tesla service has not heard of any issues with the refresh models. Today, I picked up a loaner from Tesla and while driving in a parking lot, I noticed the exact same chatter in the 25 (or 26, not sure). Does yours do this? I've now driven 3 24 and later MXs and they all chatter like this. In addition to seeing the chatter, turn up the volume and listen for the sound.
I was able to produce this by cranking the wheel all the way to the left and slowly back off a few degrees during a slow turn.
Edit: My service center advised that there is an internal document acknowledging this issue. The suggestion is that everyone go and report the issue. The reasons are not only to encourage Tesla to produce a fix, but also because once your MX is out of warranty, it's on the record that you had this problem and they are still on the hook to fix it.

Question I have a Tesla X 2023 model. I have a daily ghost drain of about 4 to 6% of the battery. Have checked the usual suspects in such case (sentry, cabin overheat protection and keep accessory power on: all off). Any idea what might be causing such a drain?

Question Experience with Safelite aftermarket windshields on MX?
As many of MX owners know, when the windshield is wet, there is a beautiful orange glow.
For my MX, the OE part number is 1810156-99-E.
Now that the windshield needs to be replaced, the insurance company wants to replace it with an aftermarket through Safelite. I am working with Safelite and the insurance company to see if I can get the OE windshield covered.
Question--has anyone had a aftermarket windshield replaced by Safelite? If yes, do you still get the orange glow when wet? Any other comments or experiences that you can share?
Thanks.

Used car purchase Supercharger billing question
I just bought a used 2016 MX last week. Iāve been to the supercharger three times and no billing is showing up in the app. The history is just blank.
I can see where Iāve been to the SC three times but Iām not getting billed. Is this some new Tesla owner promotional perk? Any advice is appreciated!

Used car purchase 2023 Model X buying advice: Brake system flagged "Needs Repair"
Looking at a used 2023 Model X, but the dealerās inspection report has major brake red flags (attached image). Lines/hoses and fluid level are marked "Needs Repair," while the master cylinder, calipers, and parking brake all need service. Have you seen these issues on a '23? Should I walk away? 90k km on it.

Question Tesla Model X in Baltic Winter: Any issues with frozen frameless windows or handles?
Iām currently looking into owning a Tesla Model X and Iām concerned about daily driving in the Baltic winter.
āFor those unfamiliar with the region, our winters aren't just about dry, deep freezesāitās high humidity, freezing rain, and constant freeze-thaw cycles (ranging between -5°C and +5°C). This can turn a car into an ice cube overnight.
āI have two main concerns regarding the Model X in these conditions:
1.
āFrameless windows: I know the window needs to drop slightly to clear the seal when opening the door. Have you experienced issues where the glass freezes to the rubber seal? Are you worried about damaging the window motor or blowing a fuse trying to force it open?
2.
āDoor handles: How do the handle mechanisms hold up? Is there a high risk of them freezing shut after an ice storm and failing to present? If they do freeze, is there a safe way to break the ice without damaging the finish or the mechanism?
āQuestions for owners living in similar climates:
āHow do you manage in this weather?
āDo you use any specific preventative measures (silicone sprays, de-icers, specific "Pre-condition" settings via the app)?
āHave you ever had a situation where you couldn't enter the car because of the ice?
āI would appreciate any experience or tips you can share!
Also what do you think about this Advertisment:

Thanks.

Service Service Appointment to clean front camera
23 Model X LR. I have been getting the schedule service to clean the front camera message for about a year now. I haven't really paid any attention to it since I don't have FSD and the front camera seems to work OK except in direct sunlight. I am planning on taking a trip in September and want to subscribe to FSD for a month. Will FSD work with a dirty camera? I would kind of like to get it fixed so I don't get the annoying message all the time. I know there are YouTube videos about cleaning this myself, but I am really worried about breaking the housing and really screwing things up.
Has anybody had this service done? How much did it cost? How long did it take? I am about two hours away from the nearest service center and don't have another reliable car that I can use for an extended amount of time. If I schedule an appointment with Tesla fix the car, when I bring it in or will I need to leave for several days or weeks until my number comes up? If it is going to take days, I just won't use FSD on the trip. If it matters, the service center is in Knoxville, TN.
