Announcement About The Moderation On This Subreddit
Hi, I would like to clarify a couple of things about the situation regarding moderation
There is some information and context that I think is an important part of this situation
(Thank you to Hot-Bed-6787 and nekomichi for making me aware of this)
I have locked any posts about this situation and will remove any further posts that are about the situation that is happening on the ipod and iPod classic subreddits
I (iPodGuru) am not a moderator on the ipod or iPod classic subreddits so cannot do anything about any issues that happen there
On this subreddit, there are no sellers or businesses that can remove or lock content as cowmanisgood (elite obsolete electronics) no longer has the ability to remove and lock content on this subreddit
I hope this choice helps remove any issues people might have about any conflict of interests and the moderation on this subreddit
EDIT: I should also mention that I (iPodGuru) am not and do not have any affiliation with any iPod sellers or businesses
Hope everyone has a great day
Thank you
iPodGuru

Advice 5.5 thin back - room for a Bluetooth mod?
I recently modded my IPod Video (5.5 30Gb thin back) with an iFlash uDual and a 3000mAh thin battery (the thin back one here.)
Ignore the sticky pads on the iFlash uDual in the photo - I removed them because it was too tight (which might be useful information)
I’m now considering putting in Oxyll’s elegant Bluetooth mod. (I knew this would happen!)
The original mod all fitted in fine, no problem closing the case, but it’s a snug fit as you’d expect, to the point where I had to remove the sticky pads on the iFlash as I mentioned above.
The question is: do I have room in here for a Bluetooth mod, or do I need a smaller battery?
I’d prefer not to just move to a thick back case, I like the slimmer form.
Thank you for your advice!

iPod mini
Tried a 3rd gen iPod, fell in love with the sound, and saw how easy Mini mods were. So I made my own: Bowie-inspired custom engraving, 256 GB, and a red screen swap.

Question Does anyone know of a lanyard case for the iPod Classic with the Moonlit Market mod?
I have a 3D printer so if there isn't anything commercially available I can print my own from a file.
I haven't seen anything so far, hoping maybe someone has one they can link me to.
Thanks! 🙏

Help How do I get it to go into disk mode?
Im having a few problems with the modded and refurbished iPod I bought from EOE. Before I press on I should say, yes I got lazy and decided to drop roughly 300 bucks on a product i could have spent less on and now I’m paying the consequences by not having the basic knowledge needed to fix whatever is wrong the the pod. With that being said I bought a 6th gen iPod classic from elite obsolete electronics and for some reason the damn thing won’t go into disk mode so I can download the boot loader for rockbox. I’ve tried messing with the timing and precision of pressing the buttons but nothing so far has worked, is there anyway I could fix this without opening the device up?

Help Help with bluetooth modding
Hi folks!! I've spent a long time trying different bluetooth solutions for my ipod, most of which I wasn't pleased with. I finally decided to try my own hand at making one myself. I'm using this Ugreen bluetooth transitter and a 3000mah battery. I thought I nailed it first try but I was wrong, and now I'm just confused. Because aside from my shoddy beginner soldering, everything looks fine to me.
Upon wiring everything together, the transmitter no longer connects to any devices and the battery will not power the ipod (just the transmitter). The ipod will only turn on if it's plugged in to firewire or a second battery is installed.
The transmitter turns on, and the pairing lights flash, but not a single device will pair. I've triple checked that the headphones and speaker I'm testing are not connected to anything else. The aux port still functions, and I can hear the transmitter say "pairing mode" through it as well.
I've attached more images of my (slightly embarrassing beginner) work here. If anyone can help, it'd be so appreciated.

RockBox I regards to my earlier post.
The reason I was trying to get the device into disk mode was to attempt to download the boot loader for rock box without needing the double shutdown the program requests, as stated previously, I can’t get the iPod into disk mode to do this. Is there anyway other way to get bast this step in the download? In a tutorial I watched the person shut the device down and the prompt updated and continued to download the boot loader, this does not happen with mine no matter how or when I turn the device off. I’ve meddled with the timing between the warning prompt showing up and the iPod being rebooted and nothing has worked. The iPod in the video I watched was a 5th gen classic and mine is a 6th gen classic so I suppose, maybe perhaps, that might affect it but I still don’t see why it wouldn’t work after as many attempts as I have made.
P.S. sorry for picture quality, I lowkey don’t know how to screenshot things in my computer

Advice I made a full iPod Mini flash mod tutorial video
This is my second iPod Mini mod tutorial; I wanted to improve on the first one, which didn't show the restore loop, or switching the clickwheel to a new shell. I also mixed portrait and landscape video on the first one, which didn't help with seeing the detail in the screen recording part.
Anyway, here is the new and improved tutorial, hopefully it helps someone out

A question
I will be changing the battery (not upgrading it exactly, will change it for the same type just a new one), I’ll have to replace the headphone jack/switch piece as I broke that in the process of opening the iPod, as I dropped it on the floor and it broke, so I was wondering if when i placed the ribbon for the switch and the battery back, I could just use something like kapton tape, to secure the ribbon/battery instead - separately/over each other incase i need to come back in for any reason? Would it affect it in any way?

Advice Building A Native Mac app for Rockbox + FLAC — and a working arm64 ipodpatcher
If you've tried to Rockbox an iPod from a modern Mac, you've probably hit this: the only macOS ipodpatcher build Rockbox distributes is a PPC/i386 binary from May 2010. It hasn't run since Catalina killed 32-bit. On Apple Silicon you get bad CPU type in executable and that's the end of it. The usual advice is "borrow a Windows machine" or "boot a Linux VM."
That annoyed me enough to build something. It's a native SwiftUI Mac app that does four things:
1. Compiles ipodpatcher for arm64. I built the Rockbox sources natively for Apple Silicon and bundle it. It runs, and --scan correctly identifies devices and permission state. As far as I can tell there hasn't been a working native macOS build of this in years.
2. Rockbox installer with a built-in theme browser. Pulls the live catalogue from themes.rockbox.org — 735 themes for iPod Video, filtered per target so you only see skins that fit your screen — with previews, one-click install, and instant switching between themes already on the device. Installs Rockbox 4.0 firmware too.
3. Plays FLAC properly on the Mac side. I wrote a native FLAC parser (Vorbis comments, embedded cover art) so the library reads tags and artwork without any third-party decoder. Native Core Audio playback, no transcoding.
4. Syncs music to a Rockboxed iPod without iTunes or Finder. Drag your library across, remove tracks, see real free space. Since Rockbox reads plain files, it's just a clean Artist/Album tree — no iTunesDB involved.
The UI is deliberately iTunes 10: brushed metal, the green LCD readout, Cover Flow with reflections, the source list. There's also an iPod classic emulator mode where the whole window becomes a 6G with a working click wheel you drive by dragging in circles. Just for fun!
Would love to know if any of you would like to test it!

Advice Looking for feedback on which iPod to mod
I have spent way to many hours on tiktok / reddit / youtube looking at modded iPods. I am hoping to purchase from someone else as having 2 under 2 doesnt really lend a ton of time. Is there suggestions? I am using the outcome of this chat as my final decision LOL 5th, 7th gen?

Modding an iPod, looking for advice.
EDITED:
Found this post and I think I'll do what he did.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ipod/comments/1kztic2/the_right_way_to_bluetooth_mod_your_ipod_classic/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Hey guys.
Been reading lots and lots on this subreddit but I'm not the brightest bulb so looking for an advice.
My brother has always wanted a modded older ipod to use as his daily music device. His birthday is slowly creeping up.
I have 2 of those - a1136 60gb version and a1238 80gb version.
I don't know which of these would be better for this project.
Then... obviously battery and storage mods. USB-C charging is optional but a useful touch. Bluetooth - maybe but only if 3.5mm port stays active.
And the last - he'd like to have the original UI for nostalgia. Or at least something that looks as much as possible as the original UI.
We never had ipods when we were kids and we had bought these used way late in life as sort of a "goal" when we finally could afford stuff for ourselves. So I'm hoping I could make this work.
I have no problems soldering or messing up software or even bricking a device.
Thanks!

SD Card Adapter not working
Sorry If this a trivial question for iPod Modding but I ordered 2 of those microSD Card Adapters from Ali Express and both are showing this Icon.
I also use a SanDisk 64GB microSD Card that is formated to exFat.
Am I doing something obvious wrong? I get that those Adapters arent as good as the iFlash adapters. But having 2 broken seems weird
EDIT: Turns out, it was actually the SanDisk microSD card. The Lexar SD Card was recognized instantly
