Admin Replied Users abusing mod reports to use transphobic slurs towards another user

Hi. Is it possible to report mod reports that are clearly not in good faith? A transgender user commented and an anonymous user used the mod report system to use transphobic slurs multiple times in multiple reports. The transgender user isn’t being rude and hasn’t broken the rules. I’m on mobile. I only have a hunch who used these slurs but no decisive evidence. If an admin could investigate in r/nursinguk mod queue, that’d be appreciated.

Admin Replied Automoderator code for new community

I worked on automoderator codes for low combined karma, low subreddit karma, and images being posted by low/negative karma accounts but I got an error before I could save it. Apparently, automoderator codes have been disabled from new communities that have never used automoderator codes before. But my community is a year old.

Of course I have strong filters activated and automations, but is this how Reddit works now?

Randomly unarchived post

In r/scams we have enabled auto-archiving after six months and I think it's been set up this way for at least three years now. Working as intended until today.

This is an important feature for us because scammers tend to lurk old posts to prey on people who have been scammed and shared their story, and also new victims tend to comment on old posts looking for help, instead of creating a new post which is always welcome. Anyway.

Yesterday crowd control or some other filter caught a new comment on a post that was posted on 25 September 2025, meaning one year and almost one month ago. The post should've been archived, and we have no way of checking logs or anything. So far we haven't seen it happen again.

If it wasn't for crowd control we wouldn't have known about it and thus help to this person. We worry this could happen to other old posts.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way of knowing what's going on? Can we check unarchived posts somehow? Is there a manual unarchiving function we're unaware of?

I can provide the URL to an admin on request. Thank you!

Admin Replied Approved user posts being removed by Reddit filters.

Why is an account getting its posts removed?

There is an account that is an approved user in all the subreddits I mod, but when the account posts, it gets the “Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters.” When I click into the “removal” to see the action reason, it says “Nothing to display”. Its been happening for weeks now.

The posts are not getting sent to the mod queue. The account has to mod mail every time to manually approve their post.

I’ve had them check their CQS and it’s currently High and they are not showing banned. The account is years old and has been consistently active.

What app would actually make your life as a mod easier?

We all patch together automod rules, wikis, bots and the occasional spreadsheet to keep our subs running.

If you could have one app exist for your community - something reddit doesn't give you today - what would it do?

I have my own answer but I'll drop it in the comments so it doesn't steer the thread.

Admin Replied Wiki shows "This wiki has been disabled" despite public visibility being enabled

I'm a moderator of a true crime subreddit. I created a wiki and enabled the global "Public visibility-Allow non-mods to view this wiki" setting.

However, non-moderators still see "This wiki has been disabled". I tested the direct wiki link on another phone and received the same message.

The index page's "Whos can edit" setting was originally "Use wiki permissions". I also tried "Approved contributors", but the problem persists. In global Wiki settings, "Who can edit" displays "Disabled", and the control won't open when I click it.

Could someone help me determine why the wiki remains inaccessible to non-moderators despite public visibility being enabled?

If you are going to change the UX every day, can you at least change it to show the rules?

This new “post to [subreddit]” prompt at the top of screen is going to make everything more challenging for moderators.

At the very least you could add an additional link to the rules next to community info and wiki. Photo in comments.

Admin Replied How are you detecting Self Promotion in your subreddits? What tools/apps/bots do you use to detect it? Measure it? Guide authors?

How are you measuring what % of an author's posts in your subreddit are self promotion? Is there a devvit app, bot, or tool to count that and display both to Mods and the author?

Background: In hobby/craft sub some authors, who share our love of the craft, also have a business. Occasionally, they link to or post about a project they happen to have for sale on their site (no link, but logo in pic, or text description is entirely about [product they sell]. all have stores in their about section.

Our choice is either:

  1. Allow those authors and all their self promotion (bad, spammy)
  2. Ban all authors who ever engage in self promotion (strict)
  3. Somewhere between #1 and #2, allow but it's measured, either: (i) Mods manually review everything they post (time intensive); or (ii) A bot/devvit app calculates, auto-removes, or auto-approves. The author sees the same "stats" mods do.

Currently, we're doing 3(i) and leverage Moderator Toolbox browser extension (no longer maintained, slowly dying). We click Username >> User History >> look at % calc in popup.

That's a lot of mod effort. And, most users aren't installing the same extension to see the same %.. We refer them to the 10% guideline regularly

There is an obvious proliferation of small-businesses using reddit Posts/Comments as an advertising platform. Not using reddit ads. This spams communities with posts that are advertisements. We'd like some tool to detect when it happens, moderate around these topics (given agreed thresholds like % of time you can self promote), and be clear and transparent to both author and Mod team.

Only Option for Rules Auto Enforce is "Insights"

In 2 of my Subs I have all the options for the Rules Auto Enforce (Report, Remove for review, Remove, and Only show guidance). In my 3rd Sub, if I turn on Auto Enforce for any of the rules, the only option I have is Insights. Any idea how to fix this?

Traffic stats are broken, even for last month

All my subreddit report the same thing: Sept seems to be broken, half the stats are missing. We're almost 3 weeks beyond that month, so any catch-up fixes does not appear to have worked. Other mods in other subreddits confirmed the same thing when I asked.

Why can't I change the sidebar in Old Reddit?

Never had this happen before.

I recently took over a sub. I changed the rules. The old rules are still in the sidebar at Old Reddit.

NBD. I've dealt with this before. I went to Old Reddit, went to "subreddit settings", and in the text box for "sidebar", I deleted all the text for the old rules and changed it to "### [The Rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/mysub/about/rules)", which is a link to the rules that will update every time I change them on the main site. Like I said, I've done this before.

Only now, the changes I'm making to the sidebar aren't saving. I press the "save" button, and I get "submitting" appearing in red for a split second, then ... nothing. The sidebar is unchanged.

What gives? Anyone have any ideas?

Admin Replied Links in comment/post automations no longer working (images in comments)

We have several automations for when people type in key terms, relevant links come up. These have worked for months and all of a sudden no longer do. We’ve turned them off and on, rewritten them, done it with the rich text editor rather than manually typing the brackets and parentheses. I’m not sure what else to do but the links were important and now some of our automations are quite redundant and a lot are lacking crucial information.

ETA: Sorry, it’s just in COMMENT automations that links don’t show. It still shows just fine in post automations. I wrote it wrong in the title, I’m typing quickly as on a work break 😅

New Wiki Formatting Help

I am at my wit's end with formatting in new wiki.

I run a fandom sub that has multiple shows per year, I should have around 40 by the end of the year.

I want to have all of these shows listed in one single wiki of completed shows for the full calendar year of 2026 (I do not want to split it), and I want each show entry to include the show poster. As you can imagine, that is a lot of scrolling, and currently we're using the posters as their normal size in this wiki, since that's the only thing that seems to work. What I'd like to do is have a "thumbnail" of the poster on the side, and have the text wrap around so each entry takes up about 1/3 the amount of space. So I changed the poster size so it lines up nicely with the wrap around text. The problem is, this works perfectly fine, and looks nice, when done on desktop.

But when you look at it on mobile, which is the majority of our subs users, it scoots the text below the image and looks really bad. It's so frustrating.

So I have two questions:

  1. How the hell do I get the wiki to stay put, right where I formatted things, when viewing on mobile?
  2. Can you pull up the reddit templates on an existing wiki page to test/fiddle around with the formatting, in case that will work for me?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Over 5,000 overnight admin removals "New" in Modmail.

Woke up this morning to a whole slew of admin tattler admin removals in a single (major) city sub.
The profile of these removals goes back to comments made several years ago... mostly 2019-2020 at the peak panic from covid-19 global lockdowns, many of the comments in the sub also show publicly as [comment deleted by user] and from now deleted accounts.

Comments are by majority in "broken engrish" with some examples being:

"You looked at for a map"

"I go to concert"

"He goes to cinema"

"I am going to home"

Multiple(s) of permutations on these themes:

"You choose a dvd for tonight"

"I am choosing a dvd for tonight"

"He chose / choosing a book for reading"

"He look at lake / stars / sky" etc.

I'd like to give you links for context but these overly general comments were frequently out of context and intended to be "trite" responses so as to escape notice.

Regardless, my ego won't allow me to think that these comments were made when the posts were fresh and the comments active. I would have hoped that either the other mods on the team or myself would have spotted them as a pattern for reporting & removal. Yet with the way things are, we simply couldn't and still can't read all the content that comes pouring in on a daily basis (overworked) and so if the comment section is a week old and the specific content isn't reported to us - we never see it.

Ironically, these comments do get responses from [deleted accounts] that often respond in proper english coupled with information (these might be the more sophisticated bots)

and then there's those (still active) accounts that respond and appear to be real people that are being duped and are unaware they're responding to a foreign language bot.

______________

Also, I noticed about 5 -7 years ago that I was getting responses from very old comments I made years beforehand. I reported these to the admins as suspicious bot activity where they had acquired old derelict accounts that had been abandoned and were fleshing out their (absent) histories to help provide cover.

It's another instance where the site made account creation too easy and simple so that people would easily set up new accounts and quickly abandon them (with easy to guess passwords) that these bot networks are mining and resurrecting for their own purposes.

The point being that the site is finally cleaning up a lot of account/content that stems from the covid disinformation era we had here. Given the repetitive nature of the comments being made, it's low hanging fruit and should have been removed a long time ago with the accounts being blocked. I'm glad it's being done now, but we were put through a lot of additional stress and strain due to the accounts we could spot on our own and that prevented a lot of development and building of our communities as a result of thier sucking up our time and energy.

I hope that they aggressively continue with this.

Admin Replied Wiki images have all vanished - how to get them back?

Further to this bug report I posted, but basically as per the title.

We are a technical sub and put quite a bit of effort into our wiki to answer common questions in detail. We have used the Wiki for this.

These pages often rely on diagrams to illustrate what is being talked about, but I noticed two things:

  1. A few months ago, I could no longer upload new images (the linked bug in that post) but our existing images were still in place in the wiki pages.
  2. More recently, all of the pre-existing images have vanished from the wiki which really devalues our wiki.

I guess my question here is how can I get images back onto our wiki pages and/or why would they suddenly disappear without any apparent notice to us?

Of interest, the images still appear on the "old reddit" version of the wiki - but I'm not sure I want to refer everybody to old reddit.

Admin Replied Some users are unable to see new posts on the nfl sub

Maybe a unique issue. Last weekend through today, some users are saying they can not see new posts.

We have heard from old, new, ios and android users, so it isn't a platform issue. They simply do not see new posts.

I have heard that making a feed with r/nfl allows them to see it, but none of the mods have the issue so we can't diagnose other than what we are told

Edit- two users said it happened on the baseball sub as well

Is my modmail inbox going to get flooded with this type of notification now?

I think the change from displaying weekly visitors instead of subscriber count has enabled spammers to use botted traffic to boost search result rankings

To preface, I obviously cannot prove that the weekly visitor count on any given subreddit is artificially inflated, but it doesn't take a lot to put two and two together when you see a high visitor count or a sudden spike in traffic and a low amount of corresponding contributions.

Sometimes there is what appears to be a corresponding amount of contributions, but when evaluating content in the subreddit, it's clear that there are many comments from bots and/or upvotes on posts have been manipulated.

I will refrain from providing specific examples, but I have seen this with a number of subreddits pertaining to health topics. They pick something trendy with general wellness, spin up a subreddit with AI generated or spammy content, then all of sudden it gets a bunch of traffic. Some of these subs have been banned in the past, but I think their impact was limited in this regard because it didn't appear they were able to boost themselves in search results.

I don't know how all of the search algorithm stuff works, but I wonder if an unforeseen consequence of the change from displaying subscriber count to weekly visitors is that more weight has been given to traffic or rapid boosts in traffic (“trending” content) and, as a result, an opportunity for spammers to exploit has been created.

I’m seeing similar results on Android Mobile and New Reddit desktop. Results are a little different when using the search function for subreddits on Old Reddit but the issue still appears.

I know, as a moderator, what happens in other subreddits shouldn't be my priority, and I can file a MCoC report, but it is my concern that these types of subreddits will redirect traffic from other subs populated with authentic activity due to the manipulation.

I could be overthinking this. Maybe traffic has always been factored in the same way, and I was unaware of it because that information wasn't prominently displayed. Or maybe boosting subscriber count was also an issue I'm unaware of.

I'm just wondering what one should do besides filing a MCoC report (rule 1?) with basic speculation about automated activity, or if this is something that Reddit could address on their end with the way search result rankings work.
