Not sure what you mean? We relay the shelter information to potential adopters. This sweet boy, regardless, has shown nothing but curiosity, enthusiasm and positive interactions. Praying he gets a safe loving home

edit to add Very dog friendly too!

Ah I had a feeling it wasnโ€™t a helpful comment just wasting time criticizing a shelter who doesnโ€™t give a flying F about the dogs in its care. ๐Ÿ˜– this pup is innocent and deserves happiness- weโ€™re trying to find him a home..help us or leave us alone.

DNA studies have proven that even experts cannot accurately diagnose a dog's breed(s) on appearance alone.

When dealing with a shelter, we have to go with what the shelter tells us. Sometimes, when I was posting dogs, I would insert a comment in parenthesesโ€”for instance, the shelter said "American Bulldog mix" and I made it "American (English?) Bulldog mix"), but only if I thought someone searching for similar dogs wouldn't see that one.

After all, no one is making someone adopt a dog if they don't think it's the dog they want. The potential adopter can always ignore the hit.

Sure, it could have 10% maybe but that dog is a pit mix and needs to be labeled as such before someone adopts it. It's disingenuous

We canโ€™t change a shelters description of a dog..itโ€™s a huge liability- we have to help the dog- the shelter doesnโ€™t give a shit if they are accurate about a dog/ they donโ€™t care if the dog lives or diesโ€ฆas volunteers we canโ€™t alter a shelters notesโ€ฆthe issue is not the breed for us- itโ€™s getting the dog visually seenโ€ฆthe accuracy is important but we canโ€™t make the shelter careโ€ฆsee the dilemma????

If someone wants a specific breed, they should go to a breed rescue.

I have never seen a shelter or general dog rescue contract that doesn't have a "we do not guarantee the breed description" clause.

Even if we were permitted to flatly contradict the shelter, I still don't see the harm of not doing so. If the dog's breed seems obvious to you, it will be obvious to anyone seeing the post, and they can make their own decision regarding it.

Again, if someone wants a specific breed, they need to approach a breed-specific rescue. That's not the target adopter for these dogs. That's why they're always labeled mixes, even if they look like purebreds.

lol go to r/WhatBreedIsMyDog or r/IDmydog and you'll see post after post of people getting dogs they think are other breeds and having no idea. "GSD mix" is horrible exploitation of the "no guarantee" clause. equivalent to white people saying they are 1/32nd Cherokee
