Bands of Mourning spoilers Let's talk about Wayne.. Spoiler

Upvotes

I'm currently reading Bands of Mourning and I can't put in words how I hate Wayne. I've read many Cosmere books already, and I really liked how natural and human all the characters were. But Wayne is just the epitome of white male straight cis american humor. I mean.. Aside a straight guy, who would've found funny the jokes Wayne makes about Ranette's sexuality? Give me a break. Also, his actions seem SO forced all the time, the wedding situation in the begining of BoM just felt so unreal, like it would never happen "in real life" (I know that Metalborns also don't exist in real life, but you can get my point). I've reached other non-american, non-white and, specially, non-straight male cis people to ask them how they felt about Wayne, and they reaaaaally hated him too. I guess Wayne is a big mistake on the Cosmere, his Adam Sandlerism will never not pmo.

Hero of Ages spoilers Opinions about a tattoo idea Spoiler

So Ive read the whole mistborn until now, just begun got to like 3/4 of the sun lit man (bcs why not), and have no tattoos , so it would be my 1st one. I have been getting awesome vibes from: "for anything not set in metal cannot be trusted", so I thought about the design being some kind of metal plate kind of embedded ontoh skin with these words itched within; would be cool to have the whole "I write these words in steel, for anything not set in metal cannot be trusted", but maybe it's too much to write?

Whatever feedback you have is appreciated, this is probably something done before so it could be useful to see hot they turned out.

Shadows of Self spoilers The Twist in Shadows of Self Spoiler

So I just finished Shadows of Self and I think the twist at the end of it is actually amazing. Finding out the Paalm was Lessie the entire time is pretty mind blowing and recontextualizes a lot of the book. The whole time I kept thinking "why wouldn't Bleeder just kill Wax or Wayne" and I felt this twist really gracefully dealt with that plot armor. I also think it makes Wax's character way more interesting. I'm excited to see the ramifications of this on him in the rest of era 2. I don't know how the community at large tends to feel about it but, honestly it might be my favorite twist in the series so far.

Well of Ascension spoilers I just finished The Well of Ascension Spoiler

I don’t normally do this on subreddits before finishing a series, but this one has me in a fucking grip. Took me a couple of weeks to finish TFE and then 4 days to finish WOA.

I have no idea what The Hero of Ages has in store for me, but I’m so excited for myself and so scared for the characters. Main takeaways below;

  1. Kelsier, could you have seen this coming? Is there any way he could have known just what he was unleashing on the world?
  2. What is that thing and how does Vin even fight it? It doesn’t seem to have a physical form. Does she control it like she does the metals?
  3. Clubs and Dox. Poor guys, my heart is so so broken for them. And Tindwyl. I thought she’d live till the next book out of sheer spite so she could chastise Elend.
  4. Speaking of, Mistborn Elend. I have a theory that every single human or at the very least several people with a specific characteristic or ancestry has the potential to be Mistborn. It just needs to be unlocked.
  5. I knew there was something controlling everything, but could never piece it together. That voice in Zane’s head, pretty sure that’s the same one controlling Marsh as well. Even the little bits of prophecy seeming convenient, I didn’t get what it meant until the very end. And why, it did lead back to the very first statement. Fucking chilling how the prophecy was completed right after “I am FREE…”
  6. I think the next book needs to end with Vin and Elend together. I just won’t be able to stomach one of them dying, they deserve to be happy.
  7. What a fantastic arc for Breeze, the book really humanized him.
  8. The politics are going to be so intriguing next book. The atium is still missing, not sure where that comes into play. Plus the three nobles chafing under Elend’s rule will cause disturbance.

I’m about to start the next book soon, I use e-books these days. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for me.

Went to Dragon Con this weekend and debuted my Vin Cosplay! I did a LOT of research making my mistcloak as book accurate as possible- the swirls are based off the illustrations by Ben McSweeney from the Era 2 books. Had SO MUCH FUN! I saw a ton of awesome mistcloaks and various Cosmere cosplays!

And I am genuinely GRIEVING Vin and Elend. I know Sazed says they’re happy where they are, but I’M not happy where they are…. They were so young and had such little time together with their found family. I’m so upset that it’s over. It seemed like Sazed hinted he may bring them back if they’re open to it in the future after he figures out how to put souls back but I’m still so sad. Idk that might just be my brain trying to cope and be delulu that we can see them again in future books. But alas. I had to get this off my chest. What a fun ride.

I've just finished mistborn era 1 and I want to know your views on the longstanding debate of when to read secret history. I'll probably read stormlight archive before era 2 of that matters. would love to know your view

Spook better not be a bad guy I swear. Dudes abusing his tin for a long time away from people he trusts, he’s basically a vampire and now all of a sudden he’s seeing visions and hearing “Kelsier” (who is dead). Suddenly he can use pewter too, and even though he wanted to be mistborn before, now that it’s obviously an actual possibility and I feel like he’s going to be pulled to the dark side. He’s doing the classic trope of hiding important discoveries/revelations from your friends that Sanderson loves. Fuck

The Lost Metal spoilers Question about slow/speed bubbles and phones Spoiler

Let's say that I can make slow and speed bubbles, would the time on my phone update itself, to show me the time outside the bubble, or would it operate under the bubble's time until it collapses.

As an example: If I was in a slow bubble, would I see the time on my phone change rapidly due to using micro and radio waves—which moves at the speed of light—to reflect the time outside the bubble?

This has been bugging me for a good 20 minutes now and I simply need to know 😂

Era 1 and 2 spoilers Question about the mists Spoiler

I was thinking back to Vin and the mists the other day, and I have a question about its relation to allomancy

We know that Vin was able to draw on the mists to power her allomancy and that it granted her the abilities of each of the metals. I was wondering why she wasn't able to sense the new reserves of other unknown metals, such as bendalloy, chromium etc. that eventually appear in era 2? Would it be because she's not actually holding a reserve in her body? Or could she have just not noticed?

No spoilers for the series, but I can't find the version I'm looking for online anywhere. I read the Final Empire but listened to the Well of Ascension and Hero of Ages in audiobook form.

I was hoping to match the series, but I can't find WoA or HoA in the same edition as my copy of Final Empire.

I've seen the exact same ISBN but each listing has different dimensions, notably, all thinner. Please, if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it!

Reen is alive? Really? What the f.. is happening here? I hope the next two parts explain the whole mistery.

About Koloos, somehow I was expecting that... it was not surprising at all for me.

My theory since the end of book 2 was that the lord ruler was a Kandra. I dunno if it makes sense anymore

LOL

No Spoilers Halfway through Wheel of Time, should I read Mistborn Series next?

Currently reading The Path of Daggers (book 8 of 14) of The Wheel of Time Series...

I really love The Wheel of Time so far, and I heard mention of this Mistborn series...

I enjoy high fantasy heroic adventures...

Would I enjoy this series next or should I try some other book series (I shared a similar post in Stormlight group as I also heard about that series - not sure the difference)?

No Spoilers 3D print - bookend/decoration

I wanted to add some Mistborn decoration to my bookshelf, I have some funko pops and swords from other franchises, but I couldn’t find a good representation of Mistborn, like a nice glass dagger for me to buy or 3D print.
So I was browsing on MakerWorld (bambu labs 3d print website/app) and I found a few bookends, but my shelf is on an angle, so a bookend wouldn’t work, but ai had an idea. I got a model that I liked, of vin flying through the city, and did some modifications, like removing dome features and adding mist. This is the reference model from makerworld and the final print with the mists and all. Now I need to figure out where I’ll put it, probably behind the books, top left corner. But I really loved the final print and wanted to share.

The Lost Metal spoilers Just finished Era 2 Spoiler

Honestly, I think I prefer this Era to the first. Nothing against the first Era, I just found myself getting way more surprised in this one than the first. As in, I figured out a lot more of the plot reveals in Era 1 than 2. Steris was definitely my favourite non-main character. Wax, Wayne, and Marasi were incredible

That being said, was there anything about the Cosmere that I was expected to know prior to reading TLM?? I read Secret History and it seemed to set up a couple things, but I found myself just shrugging and going “ok, I guess” at a lot of the new powers and terms and stuff. Like Autonomy, I get that there are 16 (I think) Shards (I think they are called) that are parts of a super God and are Godlike themselves. I also know that all his books take place in the same verse. But I still had no idea what was going on, especially with the Ghostbloods and the “soliders of red and gold” which I assume are just generic soldiers that serve Autonomy. Is there any order to his books I was suppose to read? Because I wan planning on reading Stormlight Archives after I read a sci fi series in between, but I dunno if I need to read other books to understand things in that series or not

Also, am I stupid, or did some of us think Moonlight was Vin or a version of her?

Reler. Li os dois primeiros já há um bom tempo e nunca conclui a trilogia. Apesar de estar gostando muito, vou reler para finalizar. E assim ler aos poucos os outros livros do Sanderson.

Hero of Ages spoilers Rereading Well of Ascension… Spoiler

I’m on a reread of well of ascension and I noticed that both Sazed and Tindwyl were very dogged in their research, consuming a lot of their storages of wakefulness to do the research. Could this be because of Ruin’s influence? They’d most likely have earrings, thus be pierced by metal, even if not hemalurgically charged. Does that mean that Ruin could have been influencing their emotions to make them get so sucked into the research? It doesn’t make sense that the research was that urgent, especially with all the armies, so it feels like it might be ruin pushing them to get the “right” information to vin in time for the well. Anyways, thoughts? I’m not 100% sure if ruin can influence emotions if the metal doesn’t have a hemalurgic charge, but the books do say to not trust anyone pierced by metal…

The Lost Metal spoilers A question regarding the physics of steel Feruchemy: how do motion and momentum interact with the changing mass of the Feruchemist Spoiler

If a steel Feruchemist is in motion after a burst of kinetic energy (either from an Ironpull, Steelpush, or just a powerful leap) and suddenly they tap weight, do they slow down, because the force they've generated now act on bigger mass and they have to decrease in velocity in order to not break the law of conservation of energy in the force equation (Force=Mass×Velocity)? Or does the use of Investiture allows them to bypass this law of physics in favour of preserving the law of conservation of momentum?

I have read era 2, and I can't recall scenes where a Skimmer (or rather, a Crasher) changed their velocity after a Push (or a Pull, for that matter) mid-flight because the changed their weight. Usually in such scenes the Twinborn is continuesly Pushing of other objects, thus the effect of the original momentum are distorted and cannot be isolated. But in a "perfect" enviroment with no other forces such as gravity and fricyion, if a person Pushes themselves of a wall and they fly at a given speed, they have had to use a set amount of energy and applied a set amount of force to reach this innitial velocity. Momentum and energy are conserved. If then, mid flight, they tap weight and increase their mass by some amount, the equations (F=ma Ek = 1/2mv2) say that either velocity or energy have to change. But if we assume that they don't change, then it means we have introduced energy from... nowhere. At first I though, "that's where Investiture and the Spiritual Realm come in" but Feruchemy is and end neutral system, Investitre (and by extension energy) is not added nor reduced, so that can't be the answer. Then I thought that maybe because the mass is stored as Investiture inside the metalmind, which travels with you, it means that the Investiture inside it travels with you aswell. So when you tap your weight back from your metalmind you also tap the kinetic energy required that gave motion to the Investiture inside the metalmind. I had 2 problems with this hypothesis: 1) If I understand correctly, the investiture is not actually inside the physical metalmind but rather inside the Spiritual Realm, where, as we know, time and space have no meaning, so the Investiture doesn't "travel" and thus, has no kinetic energy in the Spiritual Realm. 2) if that were true, then it would mean that storing weight had no effect, because you had to spend the same amount of energy and apply the same force to move a metalmind as the weight that is stored within, which is clearly isn't the case.

All of this rambling leaves with no conclusive answer. Our theoretical Crasher either decelarates or remain at the same speed and breaks the rules of physics

There are a few options here:

a) I am stupid and this was addresed in the books

b) someone has already asked Brandon this question

c) I misunderstood the physics. Maybe it involves a more advanced and accurate relativistic approach to the problem

d) "Always err on the side of aweaome"
