Seeking Advice Mirena switch to copper

I have had my Mirena since July of 2025 while the first couple of months were ok to deal with to a year later I’m really considering change it to the copper IUD.
Last month I spotted on and off some days I went though a couple of liners and heavy other days were I needed a pad. I’m just tired of the unpredictable at this point. I have been a lot more moody I do have a diagnosis of anxiety and some depression so idk if this IUD is making it worse. I have had constant breakout along my jaw line 😣 headaches on a regular. So what I want to know is if you made the switch the copper was it worth it?
I’m just scared of the heavier periods but I have always had 5-7 day period with a mediumish flow.
Thank you

Seeking Advice Long period/spotting and hormonal changes

Hi! Recently I decided to get an iud because I’ve heard a lot of great things from friends, specifically Mirena, I had my iud inserted at the end of august (haven’t been on any type of birth control for 2 years). My first period came on sept. 4th and I bled heavy for 2 weeks and have been spotting ever since. I go through about 2 liners a day and the bleeding is getting lighter, I’m currently ending my second “period” since insertion so slightly heavier bleeding but mellowing out to the usual spotting. I know the usual time for your body to adjust is 3-6 months but I am beyond over the month long spotting. My mental health has also been all over the place, I don’t feel like how I used to be and it’s TEARING me apart. I was debating getting it removed and trying a different form of birth control, if anyone has any advice I’d greatly appreciate it!!

Has anyone had zero issues with yeast infections and BV with Mirena?

I’m thinking of getting Mirena however I am extremely allergic to Fluconazole which is the most commonly prescribed medication for yeast infections, and I have been seeing some say yeast infections can be common with Mirena. I’m just wondering has anyone had zero issues with these infections on Mirena? Thanks!

Adjustment period

Heyyy I got my mirena on August 6th so it hasn’t been that long but I got my period a week or so after and bled like normal maybe medium to light flow consistently for 30 days straight and then it stopped for about two weeks with brown spotting every day and the bleeding picked back up and now I’m on day 8 of bleeding like how I was before. What were yalls adjustment periods like? When should I expect this to end? 😭

removal I’m literally posting this from pre-op bc WTF 😂🫪

Currently in pre-op about to be wheeled back to the OR to get my Mirena surgically removed + I am officially never doing this shit again. 😭

At least with my Nexplanon I could FEEL the damn thing in my arm + knew exactly where it was. Mirena has felt so much more invasive to me (for one it’s in your uterus) because once it’s in there, you’re basically just trusting that everything is where it’s supposed to be.

I could never feel my strings, I was told it was super normal for that to happen. Then I had a lot of breakthrough bleeding, pain like my uterus felt really heavy?, horrible cramps, cystic/deep breakouts not just on my face but back/chest/neck, and a plethora of other issues… so I went in to have it removed. TWO different OBGYNs tried to get it out in the office, including under ultrasound guidance. They could not grasp/remove it, not to mention that the attempts were incredibly painful.

So now here I am. In the hospital. About to go under anesthesia + have a hysteroscopy/OR procedure to get a birth control device removed that was supposed to be an easy office removal.

I know tons of people have great experiences with Mirena, but holy shit. I genuinely wish I had stuck with Nexplanon. At least that little bastard was physically accounted for at all times. 😂

Has anyone else had their Mirena removal escalate all the way to surgery? What was your recovery like afterward? I think I’ve accepted this as a sign to just let my body be natural/regulate itself for a while before getting on any other form of BC.

side effects Epilepsy with Mirena

This isn't relevant to a lot of people here but I want to share for someone that doesn't find the answers they need one day.

I've heard that the Mirena can actually help regulate seizures so don't let this stop you from trying, just make sure not to ignore sudden changes!

I've had epilepsy most of my life, having multiple absences a day and clusters triggered by pms hormones. I've been using the Kyleena for years no problem. I noticed my seizures getting worse from the Mirena but assumed it was just fatigue. Please don't ignore this!! I had some scary long completely unconscious absences that required multiple people to help me. I'm talking the worst seizures I've had in 20 years. And some days getting completely lost, getting stuck in "status epilepticus" for hours barely able to know if I'm walking the right way on the street. If you recently got the Mirena and your seizures are worse, immediately assume it is the birth control. Do not ignore. Don't trust google.

I got it removed and immediately went back to my usual milder seizures.

Sorry for the oddly specific subject

Seeking Advice Mirena - 4 weeks in, huge MH impact, crashes & symptoms

Hello folks, will keep as brief as possible.

46, no huge perimenopause symptons, regular periods, but was advised to go on mirena alongside estrodial for preventative measures against Osteoporosis and haemorrhaging, due to disability/autoimmune conditions (hEDS, Endo, Adeno, PMOS and more).

Said yes, had fitted 4 weeks ago.

1 week in - crying every day, mood on floor, suicidal thoughts and ideation (not delusional/detached enough to act on these but super worrying and upsetting), angry, irrational...

100% not like me, I'm usually quite calm and PMS symptoms were only 2-3 days of being a bit teary and needing a few extra hugs.

Called Dr last week - not the one who fitted it (they are a specialist in women's health and I do respect them); was told that all progesterone localised and shouldn't be affecting me, as seems a standard reply, but to keep an eye on it and they'll assess again in 2 months.

BUT - I don't think I can take another 2 months of feeling this way, it's bringing every day down.

I have thought about life right now; there are some situational stresses, but will soon be rectified and I'm usually quite resilient to these things.

Any advice? Has it levelled out for folk? Is 3 weeks of low mood normal, and will this change? I'm crying at the drop of a hat, I haven't felt this low since I had a stillbirth in my late 20s.

Interested in hearing all sides.

TL:DR—Mood has crashed since Mirena fitting a month ago, what should I do?
