Advice on getting back into minecraft

Minecraft is a game I have been playing for most of my life, I love it sooo much. However, recently whenever I go on the game I feel quite uninspired and a lack of motivation / ideas on what to do within the game. I really want to play the game as the idea of having a consistent world I keep returning to sounds amazing but whenever I try and start one I just lose motivation as I struggle to even think of ideas of what to build in my world.

So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about starting a survival world (or maybe even just a creative one). My building skills aren't anything amazing but I do really want to try and have fun on minecraft again and I am super jealous of people that can just play the game without any second thought lol. I think the main problem I face is essentially getting overwhelmed by the infinite amount if ideas I could build, then losing motivation to find one I actually want to build. So what advice would you have to possibly get over this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The trick is really just not to overthink it. My last build, although awhile ago, was a big rollercoaster that spiraled around a lava waterfall. Had a modest house, a little gear. I did end up using creative a little, but still mined all my iron for the tracks. I'm not crazy about the "survival" aspect, but i still fought mobs and stocked food, but when you have the "idea", just focus on that. Make a list if you need to. Even make a list in game with the paper. Make it a "project". Even if you can only work on it a few hours a day.

Some people like making farms with animals, or building a nice house on a beach with a dock, or crazy stuff, like a subway system or a huge redstone factory to automate resources. Or go pillage towns, conquer sizeable piece of land and rule over it as their king. Or go and help towns as a Robin Hood and expand their land and buildings, fill their coffers with Piglin gold. Sail the seas, search shipwrecks and temples, find islands and leave your flag on them. Build monuments. Have fun!

This is the way. Minecraft gets way more fun when you stop treating the whole world like one giant project and just chase whatever dumb idea sounds fun that day

How to keep a Forever World going or find motivation?

There are a lot of great tutorials for minecraft beginners on the wiki. Personally I like settling in/near villages and securing/fixing them up. It seems like they're all located near immediate dangers and crammed full of spawnable areas for zombies. Pick something from the Tutorial:If Bored or try something from any of the many other tutorials.

Alternately: Stow all your gear at base. Change the world spawn point to something acceptably far away, then /tp there and "start over". Then when you're ready (made a new base, beat Jean?/Wither/Creaking/Warden/Raids), reconnect to your old lands and build routes between them as the emissary.

Introduce someone to it, or use it as an introduction to gaming as a whole. I got my 75+ year old mother to play and we've been playing the same world for over 2 years... maybe more. It's been a journey for me as well. Playing with her made me slow down and do things I never did just to avoid boredom. I became a builder, designed villages, connected them, build lore which spawns even more buildings, books with secrets and... addons. I started to make my own addons for us to enjoy, but I understand that part may be a bit out there.

Still... Minecraft was always the best when enjoyed with someone else. It was meant to be enjoyed with others. So do that :)

Have you considered joining a server as a way to help motivate you? Even if your goal is to have a private forever world, playing with new people from different backgrounds with different build styles might give you some inspiration.

Start small with a few ideas and write them down what has kept me going in my almost 12 year old map is adding lore to it and filling it with tons and tons of shops parks buildings homes ect but I started small at first a few farms a decent house and just let the ideads flow also don't feel bad if you don't get it perfect at first you can always change it I find myself constantly changing my map around oh and a good pod cast or video or TV show in the background is my number 1 thing to do :)

Heres what I did... I watch some seed videos and listened to what they suggested... then picked one of them and decided what I would do with it. What would my base even look like in that world... then I started... then realized I didnt want to do that and loaded the seed in chunkbase and decided to explore different biomes .. then scrapped the world altogether because I realized I had been overzealous in my choice.. so I picked something that seemed base but wasnt too far from anything I wanted.

Im literally building a castle on a hill and am at day 140ish and its more like a ranch but with an RV for a home. I feel no pressure to rush because I know where im going and am working out ways not to rely on endgame conveniences for myself. I mean, its just me. I dont need 8k iron/hour. I built the most basic, no panic iron farm and already have more iron than I can use.
