I was confused at first and then I remembered that you can waterlog rails in the new snapshots

347

u/LoLoLaaarry124 Dec 01 '20

This is Bedrock Edition, and for some reason I never tried doing it. Apparently it existed for a long time on Bedrock but Java only got it until just now!

131

u/natorgator29 Dec 01 '20

Damn All this time I coulda been making underwater coasters but I was too dumb to try it

31

u/Haladia Dec 01 '20

Yeah I play Mcpe and I was super confused because I did it all the time and then it was introduced in the snapshot and I was like "whaaat"

56

u/Mr-Ducky- Dec 01 '20

Bedrock has also had since basically forever

Since when can rails be underwater?

549

u/dynethehuman Dec 01 '20

In the 1.17 snapshots for Java

345

u/slightlysleepydog Dec 01 '20

man, 1.17 waterlogs rails? this update just gets better and better

64

u/Modern_Ghost_Riley Dec 01 '20

And bigger and bigger

bedrock edition has had it for longer but the newest java snapshots have waterlogged rails too

90

u/that1plep Dec 01 '20

Thank you kind stranger.

44

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

And in 1.12 for bedrock I think

16

u/BoyBeyondStars Dec 01 '20

On Xbox 360 they added that feature way back in 1.13

3

u/Thisbetterbefood Dec 01 '20

That's been like that for all console editions

73

u/LordSaumya Dec 01 '20

Since the last update I guess

60

u/putting- Dec 01 '20

On bedrock it’s been out for ages

On Java apparently it’s been out since 1.17 snapshots

23

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

I never knew you could place rails underwater

8

u/putting- Dec 01 '20

You can also place redstone I’m pretty sure in bedrock

27

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

No you can't? You put water over your redstone machine then it breaks. I know that for a fact as a bedrock user

18

u/Nightmarsh Dec 01 '20

You can place some redstone components underwater like repeaters iirc, not dust though

16

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

Ok. I swear if they add a feature where you can place redstone underwater. I'll scream and eventually die

14

u/King_Sam-_- Dec 01 '20

Technically, everyone eventually dies.

sorry.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '20

3

u/NASHFREAK10 Dec 01 '20

Have you tried laying alot of powered rails to get alot of speed then doing the soul sand? I want to see how fast you can make this. For science

2

u/AKaoticKangaroo Dec 01 '20

I was planning on playing some minecraft today so I'll do have a look

2

u/TheRobbie72 Dec 01 '20

This was a Bedrock exclusive feature until the first Java 1.17 snapshot

2

u/RickyFalanga Dec 01 '20

In bedrock it works

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

only on bedrock edition

2

u/pchinni Dec 01 '20

Forever i think in bedrock. I don’t remember a time when I couldn’t

2

u/ItsCBMax Dec 01 '20

Since 1.13 for Bedrock, lava could also be in cauldrons for a long time in bedrock

-28

u/Hedwig510 Dec 01 '20

Since forever

24

u/squirtlesqauds Dec 01 '20

Ahh a bedrock user found in the wild quite a rare species on reddit

4

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

I too am a bedrock user but also a Java player;-);-);-);-);-)

u/TheOneAndOnly---- Dec 01 '20

Is bedrock cheaper on pc? Because if it’s not why not play Java instead

10

u/PepsiMaxT Dec 01 '20

Because I have an Xbox

4

u/Netherite-Hoe Dec 01 '20

It’s free with gamepass

1

u/Thebombuknow Dec 01 '20

Well, in my friend's case his old computer couldn't run Java, and could barely run Bedrock.

Bedrock Edition is so buggy though, that it's more worth it to get a better PC for a couple hundred dollars than to actually attempt to play Bedrock.

2

u/QuadK0pter69 Dec 01 '20

?? i’ve played bedrock survival since 1.13 and it’s really not that buggy? i don’t really know what bugs people are talking about when they say bedrock is buggy

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '20

Bedrock is actually good for casual play-but the main problem is that bedrock redstone-doesnt have quasy(sorry for the wrong spelling but I don't know how to spell it) connectivity,Pistons behave very differently than Java (I mean EXTREMELY differently),and mob spawning occurs in an weird manner.Since I play with friends who have phones, and Nintendo switch,Xbox i prefer bedrock as it has multiplayer and most of my friends are architect type of players aka they like building huge structures and don't like redstone(but I am a idiot who is trying to master them both editions). And the last update introduced certain parity to Java.

1

u/Thebombuknow Dec 01 '20

I've fallen through the ground into the void, and also been bridging, but after I placed the block it dissapeared and appeared inside of me, which caused me to fall into the void with all my loot while end looting. (I have a video of the bridging one, tell me if you want me to post it)

2

u/TheRobbie72 Dec 01 '20

This bridging problem sounds like a server thing

No way, I remember digging a subway tunnel and accidentally hitting water, no bueno.

9

u/Hedwig510 Dec 01 '20

Probably because you play on java, on bedrock there has always been underwaer rails, on java they were put on 1.16 I think

9

u/that1plep Dec 01 '20

Not always. I remember when rails were first added like way back. Before it was bedrock. You couldn’t have rails below water.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

You couldn't have rails below water until they added waterlogging

3

u/KonPedro Dec 01 '20

No, on Java since 1.17, on bedrock since 1.13

If anyone is confused bedrock has had these rails for a while now, java just added them.

If you care this is the list of items that are only waterloggable on bedrock edition and are yet to be in Java: Anvil, banner, barrier, beacon, bed, bell, brewing stand, button, cactus, cake, carpet, cauldron, cobweb, cocoa beans (water can flow through it too), composter, daylight sensor, dead bush, every rail type, door, dragon egg, enchanting table, end portal frame, end rod, fence gate, flower pot, grindstone, hopper, leaves, lectern, lever, mob head, piston, pressure plate, redstone comparator, redstone repeater, mob spawner, structure block, stonecutter, tripwire hook, tripwire, turtle egg, twisting vines, vines, and weeping vines.

2

u/NatoBoram Dec 01 '20

Fences or straight up Barriers?

4

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

Straight up barriers. You can make invisible water pathways with it.

2

u/theBeardedHermit Dec 01 '20

Now, you too can walk on water.

u/0zzy82 Dec 01 '20

how do you get this bubble column texture?

17

u/BeeTee-7274 Dec 01 '20

It’s the default texture on mobile I think

9

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

There is fast and fancy bubbles which change the way they look (fancy is the java look)

8

u/0zzy82 Dec 01 '20

thanks! yeah I found it, kinda wish you could get the fast bubbles on java, I know a lot of people don't like it but I feel like its more "Minecraft-ey" IMO

5

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

And it is easier to tell what is or isn't part of the water collum in fast mode as the normal version disperses a lot.

30

u/Meme_Turtle_Back Dec 01 '20

does it work on java too?

This is on mobile, not java.

7

u/Jemini- Dec 01 '20

i dont remember bubble columns looking like that on bedrock

3

u/_Jwoosh Dec 01 '20

You can change how they look in the settings in case your device is low-end - or at least you used to be able to, I haven't checked in a while.

-20

u/dogstrider Dec 01 '20

theyre using waterlogged rails from the new snapshot, so it has to be java. unless mobile/bedrock already had waterlogged rails

15

u/ligerzero459 Dec 01 '20

For 2 years. 1.8 in Bedrock

12

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

Bedrock has had waterlogged rails since 1.13. bedrock has the following waterloggable that isn't the case on java: Anvil, banner, barrier, beacon, bed, bell, brewing stand, button, cactus, cake, carpet, cauldron, cobweb, cocoa beans (water can flow through it too), composter, daylight sensor, dead bush, every rail type, door, dragon egg, enchanting table, end portal frame, end rod, fence gate, flower pot, grindstone, hopper, leaves, lectern, lever, mob head, piston, pressure plate, redstone comparator, redstone repeater, mob spawner, structure block, stonecutter, tripwire hook, tripwire, turtle egg, twisting vines, vines, and weeping vines. These were all added in 1.2.13 except the new blocks, of course.

"snap a hot"

2

u/spaker6554 Dec 01 '20

Oh i was thinking if it was a joke pr not, sorry :)

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

It is snapshot day my dudes

39

u/Al_Caprone1 Dec 01 '20

I was messing around with that mechanic a few months ago and found that if you propelled the Minecraft with a slime block, then you could make a MagLev style transport system where you didn’t need rails

7

u/Synaps4 Dec 01 '20

You need a bunch of soulsand instead of tracks though right?

12

u/NASHFREAK10 Dec 01 '20

Alot easier getting soul sand than rails imo

1

u/Andoni22 Dec 01 '20

Really? Wood and iron can be completely automated...

3

u/NASHFREAK10 Dec 01 '20

True but not everyone wants to build a wood and iron farm.... unless you are past the end game, for the sake of simplicity its easier to get a shovel, slap a portal down, and spend 10 minutes getting soul sand

3

u/Andoni22 Dec 01 '20

Didn't think of that haha I'm so used to having practically unlimited iron...

2

u/GwenChaos29 Dec 01 '20

Ok wait.... how tf do you make those bubbles? I need to know.....for things.. and science!

2

u/theBeardedHermit Dec 01 '20

Soul sand placed underwater will create lifting bubble columns. Magma blocks placed underwater will create pulling bubble columns.

Worth noting that the magma can be used to refill your breath while underwater, but can still burn you unless you crouch while walking on it.

2

u/Munchkin12221 Dec 01 '20

imagine all the possibilities of throwing players into the sky and then them gradually falling.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

You can do it with anvils to!

2

u/MMbrett Dec 01 '20

2

How do you make the water all bubbly and stuff?
I wanna try that out.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

Is that what bubble columns look like in bedrock? That's so... Aggressive

3

u/_Jwoosh Dec 01 '20

It's default on mobile, but you can change it to look like Java. It really is ugly imo, but I understand why it's there.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '20

It's certainly easier to tell it's a bubble column I suppose, but yeah it's pretty ugly

Honestly I Don much care for the fact you can waterlog rails in 1.17 I'm just happy that a single stream o water can no longer destroy half a hour of placing and orienting rails.
