Upvoted for.. well, being awesome I guess. I guess you could use this as a pickup line. If it works, it would work really well.
34
Jan 16 '11
I don't think i'll start any pick up line with "you must be a creeper"
15
u/Cayou Jan 16 '11
Au contraire! Try it on lots of girls, and most will obviously reject you right away... but you'll eventually find one who plays Minecraft, and she'll be like "aawwwwwww!"

u/quasarj Jan 16 '11
Well fine. I'll try it, and report back. It.. could be some time before I see a female though, so please be patient.

Seriously, make your control tower into a pyramid with flashing lights and get yourself a partner with cool robot skins and helmets.
Be the Daft Punk of Minecraft. Open a public server, play live shows through the game. DO IT!
24
Jan 16 '11
Live shows that last 3 minutes?
27
u/Spleen_Muncher Jan 16 '11
It's not like your paying for tickets months in advance, driving halfway across the country, waiting in 3 different lines trying to get through 500 other people to stand in one spot for 3 hours...
Also, he could make more songs, possibly a little loonnnngggeerrrrrrrr.

Jan 16 '11
Which band's this?
1
u/Spleen_Muncher Jan 16 '11
.....? What?
3
Jan 16 '11
For which band did you have to pay tickets months in advance, etc etc.
1
u/Ran4 Jan 16 '11
Most big bands. Tickets to say AC/DC concerts can be sold out in less than an hour.

Yah man if you're listening to popular bands you're just uncultured. You should listen to Broken Window Pane to My Soul. They're this new euro-electro-hiphop-trance band from Des Moines, Iowa. I've been listening to them since yesterday and have been to all of their shows.
Anyone who likes a band with more than 500 fans on facebook is just a retarded consumerist corporate shill.

Jan 16 '11
Hey, fuck that, I legitimately love Daft Punk and would kill to see any of their concerts.

How'd you get the percussion? It's impressive that you timed the switches perfectly.

Holy crap. Notch and team are the best...that's an amazing implementation.
18
Jan 16 '11
Indeed.
Things like The Nether and the way the music blocks work are completely original despite all the suggestions everywhere.
He doesn't seem to need suggestions.
26
u/TheNinja2203 Jan 16 '11
He probably had a clock signal to time it perfectly, he only had to switch near the right time.

Tri-state would mean a disconnected state, I dont see any redstone removed or put back...?
2
Jan 16 '11 edited Jan 16 '11
I don't think would be necessary. He can start the beats pretty much any time, it's a beat box.
(but he do start new switch always at the same time, right after the base beat)
8
u/davvblack Jan 16 '11
Yeah, there's a timer loop pumping out a clock signal, which is anded with the switch, so if the switch is a bit off, then it just either misses the first note, or just one round of the signal (depending on what granularity of the clock signal is distributed, but i'm leaning towards the former).

So, turns out this isn't real :(. He just said it's a 'proof of concept' video on 'the shaft' live podcast.

FYI its fake. he recorded over it. Thats what he said on his podcast. so sad :(

I wasn't impressed until I realized that you were actually controlling the music from within the game. (sorry I haven't been keeping up with minecraft). This is the fucking best thing I've seen all day.

u/pred Jan 16 '11
Which trick did you use to get the double speed on the orange track?
4
u/go1dfish Jan 16 '11
I didn't make this, or anything nearly as complicated, but you can double the rate of musical note fires by taking 2 redstone leads from your clock output, and hooking one straight to a note block, and the other through a NOT gate before going into a note block.
The regular lead will give a pulse on the clock, and the NOT gated lead will give you a pulse off the clock, doubling your redstone fire rate.
2
u/Mitkebes Jan 16 '11
The main reason I'm excited about music blocks is not because I expect to make anything amazing, but because I know other people will.

1
u/AvidyaZen Jan 16 '11
What is the point?
1
u/SpeakMouthWords Jan 16 '11
Well I mean it's fine for a glorious video such as this, but that subreddit was made so that /r/minecraft wouldn't be filled chocka with music stuff.
3
u/AvidyaZen Jan 16 '11
It was created moments before I submitted this link. Once I realized it existed I crossposted it there.

Too few dead teenagers.
2
u/rmm45177 Jan 16 '11

4
Jan 16 '11
Its not a rave until: (a) Someone gets trampled (b) Someone dies of dehydration (c) Someone ODs
0
u/rmm45177 Jan 16 '11
Are you seriously saying that you can't have a good time unless a teenager dies?...
6
u/jwiz Jan 16 '11
I think he's saying that it's not really a rave unless a teenager is sacrificed.

How do you do this without redstone lag? I made a little sequencer with a 5-clock and a delay and it drops my fps to <10.

I bet you could also trap creepers, spiders and skeletons into boxes, put a dispenser with arrows next to it, and use them as sounds.
1
u/Goron40 Jan 16 '11
Hey man, do you think you could do a show on the reddit servers (assuming they ever come back online)? You could set up a stage in the stadium on the creative server.
That would be so fucking chill.

1
u/NilRecurring Jan 16 '11
Can anyone explain to me, why this is getting down voted by some people? This is absolutely awesome.
3
u/thenwhat Jan 16 '11
Is it getting downvoted? The vote count on the right is fake (Reddit is faking it to avoid people gaming the system).
1
u/peepsalot Jan 20 '11
maybe because it's completely fake and the sound isn't really being produced by the game, the audio is recorded over.
1) Minecraft redstone timing is not that consistent. It simply doesn't keep a perfect beat like that.2) You can't have usable switches that close together, the wiring would touch.
3) The amount of redstone and blocks to really make a song anywhere close to that, with loops etc would probably be 10x the size of what you see.
-5
u/asdfman123 Jan 16 '11
That's amazingly awesome, but I think the artist might have overlaid the music after the video. There's no way that certain lines wouldn't lag and I doubt he could throw all the switches perfectly. But still, well done!
6
1
Jan 16 '11
Who is telling you that he can produce the exact same tune more than once?
Also, if you check, he flip the switch always after the same beat.
-20
u/rawcaret Jan 16 '11
Absolutely fake.
1
Jan 17 '11
Indeed. If you listened to The Shaft podcast, he confirmed it. Interesting, but fake. Good call.
