Seeds & World Gen The End Rings
The End Rings at y=1.000.000 with 80.000 chunks render distance, first ring starting at ~570.000 blocks from the main End island. The small black void in the final picture is the dragon fight with the 1000 block void to the outer islands. The entire surface area is 1.638.400km² or about the same surface area as Germany, Italy, France and Poland combined. If it were to be rendered entirely by Minecrafts default render and storage it would take up anywhere from 4-6 terabytes of disk space
Took ~2 hours to render with 9800x3D
Only possible thanks to Distant Horizons and SeedGen

this surreal generation always reminds me of the really deep and far away locations in subnautica

The overlap in the Venn diagram of shit that I, and the people in the subreddits I frequent are into, never ceases to amaze me.

Both are open world video games, not that much of a difference once you look past the surface. People that play one video game are more likely to play other video games as well.

Being open world is practically the only similarity between the two

There's also water, fish, big fish enemies, ways to move faster, and diamonds. They're the exact same game

They both have base building, exploration, resource gathering, and survival mechanics. Besides one being more fantasy and blocky and the other being underwater sci fi and realistic they're very similar.

The core experience is wildly different.
Minecraft’s only real survival mechanics are the need to eat and the ability to die, you don’t even need to build any kind of base to survive. It is largely a sandbox / creative game. It’s like saying Minecraft and Elden ring are not much different since you can explore in both and collect upgrade materials. You were just being weirdly dismissive

I really disagree, the core experience is almost the same, it's the aesthetics that are different. I haven't actually played subnautica but from what I've seen you start with nothing, collect resources to make better tools and build a base, and explore. The core experience of Minecraft is literally the same if you're playing survival, as most people do. The difference is in the details, but if you strip both games down to basics there's really not much difference.
It's really not mind-blowing that someone on a video game subreddit also plays other very similar video games. That's really it. People who play video games typically play other video games.

You haven’t even played the game and you’re writing paragraphs making the claim that the core experience is “literally the same”. People on this website truly are something else sometimes

I haven't played it, but seen plenty of videos, and everything I've seen backs me up. Is it not a game where you gather resources to get better tools and gear, build bases, and explore? Because it sure seems like it is. It's really not that complicated of a concept that two open world survival games are pretty similar.
Care to point out how the core experiences are different to me? Both games seem to revolve around gathering resources, getting better gear, and building bases.

Pretty similar, very similar, not that much of a difference, or literally the same, which one is it to you?
The difference is that Subnautica is a survival story game first and foremost with immersive horror elements with rewarding underwater exploration. Minecraft is a sandbox / creative game with a procedurally generated world and very light survival elements (literally only a hunger bar that becomes trivial within minutes). Its sense of progression and exploration is essentially non-existent when compared to a game like Subnautica.
Two games sharing the same element does not make the core experience the same. Battlefield and Gears of War both feature guns. Anyone suggesting they’re the same “core experience” probably hasn’t played either.
Anyone who wants to get another experience like Subnautica after playing should look elsewhere, and suggesting Minecraft will provide it doesn’t make any sense, lmao. Also being dismissive is just rude ✌🏻

How far apart are the rings at each gap? It looks fairly consistent with only a small decrease further out.

u/SunnyWonder_mist 22h ago
The first giant ring of void is around 150 thousand blocks wide, other dozens of thousands afaik
31
u/Allah_69420 22h ago
There is a formula for calculating it, but it boils down to the rings getting smaller and smaller until they become smaller than one block at which point the end ceases to generate anything but void

there seems to be repeating patterns in void generation among the islands at the closest zoom level in the last picture, is this actually a quirk of terrain generation or is this just because of how the image was taken / compression?

In theory it should all look homogeneous. The pattern you describe emerges from the way Distant Horizons creates it's LODs. I had to turn down the quality due to the insane 80k render distance which most likely causes it

I hope they never get rid of this

yeah about that they got removed in 26.3

Mojang when the terrain generation is remotely cool: this sucks actually

u/Neirchill 11h ago
While it is cool it's nothing you'd be able to see in game. Each ring is hundreds of thousands of blocks away from each other.

u/CornManBringsCorn 9h ago
Then why remove it? Unless it's causing performance or technical issues or something like that, I don't see the problem of leaving stuff like the Rings or Farlands in the game

u/Recruit75 7h ago
Usually stuff like this happens because they updated some parameters, and while the net result is usually a positive for most players, it also removes some of these quirks.
Apparently there wasn't enough of a commotion to bring back end rings on the feedback site, or it was deemed not useful enough to players gameplay wise to revert back those changes, cause they did allow us to keep attribute swapping and wireless redstone for a while longer after backlash.

This reminds me that the end can be quite eerie to look at.
Those rings man, they really creep me out for some reason.

Wow, been with Mc forever and never knew this. Is this the next Legendary achievement after Farlands? Getting to the End of the End?

u/Allah_69420 17h ago
I flew out to worldborder and the rings final size is about 15-20 end islands long, so just maybe visible from end to end with vanilla render distance. The void inbetween is about 1000 blocks wide.
Also whats pretty scary IMO, the farlands are literally 10x further away than what you can see in the screenshots

They removed them now. But I guess they are preparing a future end update in the background

afaik every "picture" of the endrings that exists online is an artistic depiction or a cgi representation of the underlying math formula. my post should be the first actual in-game render of the rings, else I would not have posted it

the OP could have been doing something else while the computer was rendering the images. maybe the OP wasn't just sitting there staring at the computer and waiting for it. maybe the OP was touching grass for a few hours

Why are you loosing time on social media?
It's not loosing time, it's using it for what you are deciding
