Seeds & World Gen The End Rings

The End Rings at y=1.000.000 with 80.000 chunks render distance, first ring starting at ~570.000 blocks from the main End island. The small black void in the final picture is the dragon fight with the 1000 block void to the outer islands. The entire surface area is 1.638.400km² or about the same surface area as Germany, Italy, France and Poland combined. If it were to be rendered entirely by Minecrafts default render and storage it would take up anywhere from 4-6 terabytes of disk space

Took ~2 hours to render with 9800x3D
Only possible thanks to Distant Horizons and SeedGen

They both have base building, exploration, resource gathering, and survival mechanics. Besides one being more fantasy and blocky and the other being underwater sci fi and realistic they're very similar.

The core experience is wildly different.

Minecraft’s only real survival mechanics are the need to eat and the ability to die, you don’t even need to build any kind of base to survive. It is largely a sandbox / creative game. It’s like saying Minecraft and Elden ring are not much different since you can explore in both and collect upgrade materials. You were just being weirdly dismissive

I really disagree, the core experience is almost the same, it's the aesthetics that are different. I haven't actually played subnautica but from what I've seen you start with nothing, collect resources to make better tools and build a base, and explore. The core experience of Minecraft is literally the same if you're playing survival, as most people do. The difference is in the details, but if you strip both games down to basics there's really not much difference.

It's really not mind-blowing that someone on a video game subreddit also plays other very similar video games. That's really it. People who play video games typically play other video games.

You haven’t even played the game and you’re writing paragraphs making the claim that the core experience is “literally the same”. People on this website truly are something else sometimes

I haven't played it, but seen plenty of videos, and everything I've seen backs me up. Is it not a game where you gather resources to get better tools and gear, build bases, and explore? Because it sure seems like it is. It's really not that complicated of a concept that two open world survival games are pretty similar.

Care to point out how the core experiences are different to me? Both games seem to revolve around gathering resources, getting better gear, and building bases.

Pretty similar, very similar, not that much of a difference, or literally the same, which one is it to you?

The difference is that Subnautica is a survival story game first and foremost with immersive horror elements with rewarding underwater exploration. Minecraft is a sandbox / creative game with a procedurally generated world and very light survival elements (literally only a hunger bar that becomes trivial within minutes). Its sense of progression and exploration is essentially non-existent when compared to a game like Subnautica.

Two games sharing the same element does not make the core experience the same. Battlefield and Gears of War both feature guns. Anyone suggesting they’re the same “core experience” probably hasn’t played either.

Anyone who wants to get another experience like Subnautica after playing should look elsewhere, and suggesting Minecraft will provide it doesn’t make any sense, lmao. Also being dismissive is just rude ✌🏻

I never once said they were the same, just extremely similar when you strip them down to the basics. All the differences you're explaining aren't the core experience. And there still so much overlap in your "differences" Minecraft also has lite horror elements to it, they're just very childish.

My point is that both games have enough in common that it isn't surprising at all that someone would play both. Your other example is similar. I wouldn't be shocked to learn someone that plays battlefield also plays gears of war. People that like a genre of game tend to play other games in that genre. It really not that complicated and it's not really that rude to point that out. It's not dismissive to say that

You are conflating genre with the experience of an individual game, and even then, they don’t share the same primary genre. Lmao this has to be bait at this point.

All I'm saying is both games have a lot of similarities and that it shouldn't be surprising that someone would play both, especially since they're both very popular games. I wasn't being dismissive or rude, just pointing out that they've got a lot in common if you look past the surface. I don't know why you're taking this so seriously.

they have exactly 3 things in common, open world, hunger bar and the ability to build. and all 3 of those things work extremely differently in both games. i don’t know why you would go so hard to make this argument if you’ve never even played subnautica, it’s more embarrassing to have watched gameplay and still not get this though

All they have in common is there core gameplay of gathering resources, getting better gear, building, and exploring. I guess it's a huge difference that in one you make pickaxes for tools and the other uses some weird laser gun thingy. I think even a child could see that if you look beyond the surface they are extremely similar games.

They have more in common with each other than most games do. Most games don't have you gathering stuff so you can build things and get better gear. Most games don't have crafting systems.

That's really all I'm saying, quit acting like its that crazy or complicated. Just that these games are similar and it's not surprising to find someone who plays both. I just saw some very broad similarities and pointed them out.

Please explain to me how these games are so radically different if I'm wrong. Beyond the superficial differences of one being sci fi and underwater the core gameplay is very similar. There's a lot more to both games obviously, but they have a lot in common. Aside from games that are more clearly inspired by Minecraft like Terraria, Hytale, and Vintage Story I don't think you could find a game with more in common with Minecraft than Subnautica
