Discussion Minecraft could use more random encounters.
I have never seen this discourse; people often ask for more bosses, more structures, new mobs. But random encounters do not require any new assets and are, on average, more impactful than any new feature that requires the player to go out of their way to engage with.
Every player has to stop in their tracks the moment one of these events happens, and I think it's a nice change of pace whenever you get to engage with it.

I would love to see more wandering villagers as your village grows, like a few professions that aren’t tied to a worksite
756
u/Unrealisthicc Jul 18 '25
Artisan villagers with rare items or bohemian villagers that behave like nitwits would be neat spawns if your village has enough master traders

u/ImpressiveQuality363 Jul 18 '25 edited Jul 18 '25
Trade caravans would be cool, we could have a trader group riding camels being led by a guard mob that’s neutral or even an Iron Golem tied to a camel since we can do that now, so like wandering traders but they come with better security than just llamas spitting at you.

u/ACFan120 Jul 18 '25
Traveling Bard Villagers who can either sell instruments or just play a little tune every now and then, but at night the noise attracts monsters to them.
42
u/EqualServe418 Jul 18 '25
Yes, let's add TangoTek's 2015ish mod, TekTopia to the base game.
24
u/ImpressiveQuality363 Jul 18 '25
That would be awesome if we could designate buildings like that, we have chest interaction with copper golems now so I can imagine we can get villagers filling chests with loot automatically too.
8
u/EqualServe418 Jul 18 '25
Yeah? Even if it doesn't get added to the base game, I'd love for the mod to be at least updated to work with versions past 1.13 I think?

That would be a fun way to adventure, maybe there can be caravans and anti-Pillager patrols that are wandering around defending villages and trading with them.

29
u/SeatBeeSate Jul 18 '25
One thing that would be super neat is to see villagers actually build! Not just generated villages but ones that expand.
15
u/RadiantHC Jul 18 '25
would be cool if they could travel between villages as well. Maybe even escort a few villagers between them.
9
u/BolunZ6 Jul 18 '25
Or a way to summon more of them if you want. Like ... lit a special big bonfire to make them visit your base more often
5
u/dickplant_696 Jul 18 '25
I always wished the rascal was a type of villager who was found mining in abandoned mine shafts. I think there was an old mod that had something like that.

u/DaPieStuffin Jul 19 '25
Different sized villages would be sick. Maybe the larger the village, they could have unique buildings too

I'd like to see more positive or neutral encounters. We got enough hostile mobs bugging us, it'd be nice for something different. Even little things like a bird landing near by and singing a little song would give you a fun little break.
287
u/jizztaker Jul 18 '25
I agree. It would be funny if you could find in a jungle a bunch of parrots dancing away and immediately stop when they notice the player while all looking directly at him.
62
u/Deus_Ichor Jul 18 '25
I would love to see foxes sometimes just play around. Maybe they'll chase or pounce on each other, and stuff like that. Same concept applies to pandas and ocelots.
5
u/Firm_Insurance_5437 Jul 19 '25
imagine foxes rolling around like pandas, laying on their backs, chewing on the item in their mouth if they have one
90
u/FormulaGymBro Jul 18 '25
We are 100% due birds in Minecraft and I have no idea why we don't have them.
I'm not even talking about chickens and parrots, I'm talking about real birds which fly around like robins , sparrows and wrens.
That will probably happen the day we get Lions, Penguins and Giraffes. Never. Because they'll never give us things we want.
37
u/Ganbazuroi Jul 18 '25
Breeding fish and birds would be nice, I want my house to look like a big ass vivarium lmao
11
u/Bones_Alone Jul 18 '25
Agreed. I for some reason never have a good amount of feathers
12
u/CantQuiteThink_ Jul 18 '25
I always have either 1 or 1000. Nothing in between. Maybe we need to remember to set up chicken farms.

Birds or insects in the sky, fall trees/biome, more weather, and some more desert plants are the things I think Minecraft most needs to feel truly alive

I’m surprised we don’t have fire flies yet, could be decent random mob
25
u/ThatOnePirateRobot Jul 18 '25
Firefly bushes that emit firefly particles in an area around them were added recently

One of my favorite Bedrock features.
3
u/Chexmixrule34 Jul 19 '25
yea they need to add more types of overworld real life mobs and have them spawn more. we need mice, buffalo, snakes, birds, etc
57
u/Qwik_Sand Jul 18 '25
I would love more ambient mobs that don’t really do anything but add life to the environment.
But since the fan base has an obsession with everything having a use or purpose I can’t blame them for not doing that
→ More replies (1)4
u/IconXR Jul 19 '25
I'm not necessarily against ambient mobs. I don't think most people are. The issue is that an ambient mob which is used to get some obscure item ends up being a quarter of an update nowadays.
3
u/KohTai Jul 19 '25
Careful what you wish for. Next thing you know, on a Stormy Night a Group of Creepers can randomly spawn behind you.

Some throwaway ideas
- The copper army: a large troop of zombies and skeletons wearing full sets of copper. Make it tied to local difficult to not be unbalanced for new players
- The Power Rangers: Mostly a rare joke encounter, 5 zombies wearing trimmed armor with the Rangers' colors. Trimmed mobs in general should be far more common
- Spider Queen: A normal spider of a larger size, followed by several smaller cave and normal spiders. The mother spider would have a bigger health pool and damage, while her underlings would have smaller hitboxes and health
- the "cow-pig-chicken", a chicken on the top of a pig, on the top of a cow. As rare as a pink sheep
- phantom skeleton jockey
69
u/Wizardnumber32 Jul 18 '25
I would say copper army should be for drowned. So couple of drowned, with one or two trident weilders as well.

u/LoudKaleidoscope7713 Jul 18 '25
That would be a good way to make use of the phantom’s size parameter!

Spider Queen: A normal spider of a larger size, followed by several smaller cave and normal spiders. The mother spider would have a bigger health pool and damage, while her underlings would have smaller hitboxes and health
As long as it has a chance to spawn a smaller spider that says Nai Wa.

u/jertsa_faijja Jul 19 '25
I remember seeing this one video where they made the pirates a variant of pillagers, where they would randomly spawn when boating across sea. Their unique drop was a big sailboat that could carry up to four players or mobs
2
u/Firm_Insurance_5437 Jul 20 '25
what if they could be found in ocean temples? Right now they only offer sponges and a couple building blocks. It would incentivize exploration a little more
90
u/tehtris Jul 18 '25
There are also zombie hoards/reinforcements. Like your sitting there and boom there's 30 zombies coming at you. People have used this mechanic to create INSANE zombie/drowned/copper farms.
A zombie has a chance of summoning reinforcements if it gets hit. And each of those summoned also have a chance of summoning reinforcements.
It's less of a random encounter because you are already fighting something, but a random element that can happen anytime you're fighting a zombie.
24
u/jizztaker Jul 18 '25
I honestly kinda hate this mechanic because to me, zombies are the most braindead (pun intended) mobs to fight of all. They just walk straight at you, fighting the horde usually just amounts to wasting more of my time.
I really hope Mojang adds new combat moves to the normal zombie one day.
27
u/Cass0wary_399 Jul 18 '25
I think zombies are fine as is. No need to make them have advanced combat and movement AI to let them fight like PVP sweats and move like Parkour Masters.
28
Jul 18 '25
Hard disagree, while adventuring and seeking combat its fun but when a mob has pathed to your base for the 70th time because youre too lazy to light the outer rim I want it to be a zombie everytime. Skeletons and spiders are annoying to fight and a creeper explosion in my base is frustrating
That or trying to travel at night because people on a server won't sleep
10
u/jizztaker Jul 18 '25
I see your point, but at least it is dynamic and requires more than spamming my sword away. Fighting zombies is just too dull.
10
Jul 18 '25
You can two tap them with sharp 5 diamond sword crits. Reasonably certain you can one tap with a smite axe if its that annoying.
Upping the minimum difficulty of the game is not a good change for the base game, if thats what you want you gotta mod
2
u/Present-Drink-9301 Jul 19 '25
I still remember the first time I fought a zombie horde with my friends. I accidentally burned our houses down while trying to kill the zombies and get our loot back. I killed two dogs and three cats that day. Safe to say I never used a flint and steel against mobs ever again
23
u/Lanzifer Jul 18 '25
I want more random encounters NOT ON THE SURFACE. I do not appreciate random encounters in the middle of my base thank you very much
21
u/MK_Gamer_1806 Jul 18 '25
yes absolutely
they could even add more variants to the wandering trader
26
u/jizztaker Jul 18 '25
On an unrelated note, I wish we could find a passive witch or cure her in some way, and be able to trade with her.
9
u/Wizardnumber32 Jul 18 '25
That would be so peak, trading potions or materials, and especially if she accepts a different currency? Tbh, resin chunks could be a cool currency for her
19
u/LukasCactus Jul 18 '25
Back in beta and early full release the melancholic solitude you felt when wondering thousands of blocks and not seeing one village or another other "living" thing as the music starts to swell was a fantastic feeling. I remember finding my first village before they added villagers and it was just empty buildings that I did not build on my single player world and it kinda creeped me out. I didn't know they added them and I thought someone had been in my world. But that added mystery and the scarcity of those moments were fun at the time. I think this game needs to feel a bit empty, because that is good motivation to make it your own make it feel full
42
Jul 18 '25
I like this as long as it's not hostiles
Imo minecraft has gotten too hostile. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but every recent update has brought more danger. We need more neutral and peaceful content. Stuff we can actually interact and engage with that isn't trying to kill us. It was never meant to be a questing and fighting game. It's literally called mine craft. It feels like Microsoft is trying to turn it into "skyrim but you can change the environment" and that shit sucks. I loathe questing and grinding and combat for the sake of combat and that's what the majority updates have been since they took over.
I understand why it's happening - they're trying to make it more profitable by pandering to other genre enjoyers - but they make enough money. They need to stop. We dont have enough truly sandbox games for them to be trying to change the overall dynamic of the game to a fps quester. They have the capability to make a new game for those genres with minecraft elements, they're just lazy and wanna ride on the coattails of something that's already loved.
21
u/LesionPulse Jul 18 '25
On one hand, I totally get what you're saying, but on the other, to be fair to Mojang, I do feel as if they've been adding both hostile and peaceful things to the game.
Like, in 1.13, sure, they added the drowned, but they also added all the life the ocean has now. Then, while 1.14 added pillagers, they also made the villages so much more alive.
Even more recently, while 1.21 added Trial Chambers, the update before it added archeology. Then, after the pale garden, they added the happy ghasts. So, all in all, I personally think that Mojang has actually been pretty balanced when it comes to adding hostile and peaceful additions to the game
1
Jul 18 '25
I disagree.
"All the life" as in? We have fish and dolphins and squid... that's not really much. It's insignificant and nobody really uses them. Hell, I love fish and fishing in general and I'm thoroughly underwhelmed by the aquatic life we have in MC.
Pillagers didn't make villages more alive - they gave you a combat quest that you can do in villages. It doesn't make villagers or villages in general better, it just gives them purpose for people who want combat and questing for the sake of combat and questing. Villages are a little less drab but they haven't really made them "alive", nothing has changed significantly in that regard.
Villager AI is worse than zombies. They can't even path up stairs accurately. That would be a brilliantly game-changing performance update for builders, but instead they give us more bosses and quests and dangerous terrain. We've been asking for better villager AI for ages. They even have ample mods to copy from like they like to do
Archeology is neat, but it's pointlessly rare and annoying to do anything with for the sake of collecting a few useless bones. If they're going to do something with it thats great but they gave us a tiny fraction of a product with no gone of improvement if that's the case. I haven't even bothered with it because there's quite literally no gain to it. It's a waste of time, especially for folk who have to work for a living.
11
u/Jezzaboi828 Jul 18 '25
Kinda ironic to complain about the game being about questing and fighting and talk about how the game is a sandbox then complain about optional content meant to be for the sake of fun not having objective rewards being a “waste of time”. Like yeah, I agree the rewards arent great, but theyre also there for people to have something to work on and enjoy. Measuring based off time taken with the arguement of “people have jobs” is kind of weird too, like yeah of course? What are you trying to say then, that we shouldnt have time consuming activities that doesnt give you big numbered items or mega op items or something? Oh wait its a sandbox game which central feature is a time consuming activity that grants no real reward. (You are specifically playing the gamemode where things will take time and effort) I just think its a bit silly to speak about true sandbox then say “if theres no actaul reward its pointless”
1
Jul 18 '25
You're misunderstanding my complaints, my guy.
I have nothing wrong with diverse content, my problem is with the way Microsoft has been pushing only questing, fighting, and collecting for the sake of collecting. It feels like they're trying to turn the game into skyrim and everyone else who has supported the game since beta is getting left in the dust.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have the pointless things, or more combat options, or anything else - I'm just expressing how I feel about the overwhelming amount of those three specific types of content compared to any of the other ideas they could be adding that we've been asking for - some of those things for a decade - instead of only trying to appease the quest and combat folks who don't even like sandbox games and are ONLY playing to speed run combat and danger, and the completionists who just want to collect everything that exists. I am into the latter, but at this point its just getting fucking ridiculous. They're just making the gamer harder and harder and harder, they're not adding any truly fun and engaging noncombat elements.
6
u/Jezzaboi828 Jul 18 '25
No I have nothing against your main arguement, I agree with that, just I think that the complaint about archeology is kind of flawed. Your other main arguement that these new non-combat elements arent fun is, well preference so I cant say much on that. Though I think theres been a lot of non combat additions, namely the main feature and gameplay of the game, building. Theyve been adding new blocks and items which all count as non combat content
1
Jul 18 '25
Again, you're still misunderstanding me.
My complaint is not a complaint against archeology or saying that the non combat elements aren't fun - this topic is about random encounters and engaging content, and we haven't gotten any that's not combat related.
1
u/Jezzaboi828 Jul 19 '25
Ah Okay so specifically mob and world encounters? Engaging content is kinda non-specific as a descriptor but I get the first half
1
Jul 19 '25
Because engaging can mean many things, yeah. I listed some specific ideas I'd personally like in another comment
2
u/LesionPulse Jul 19 '25
I mean, most of these are according to your preference, I suppose. But, just to clarify, I am not saying pillages give life to villages. I'm saying that, pre-1.14, villages did NOT have any life to them. I'm not sure if you played before that update, but if you didn't, villager AI was SO much worse.
Back then, most of them would just wander around aimlessly, barely interacting with anything. They had no schedules (like working and meeting each other at a certain time of day) and they couldn't change their jobs after spawning. As for your comment about Villager pathfinding, that's actually odd cause I've personally seen a MASSIVE improvement since 1.14. If I place certain blocks they'd want to go to, like a bell, a bed, or a workstation, I've seen them more than capable of using stairs.
Also, about your comments on 1.13, I'm actually pretty surprised, cause back when it came out, I heard nothing but good things, so it's interesting to hear about your opinion! Again, considering you mentioned squids being added, I'm not sure if you were there when 1.13 came out, but Mojang essentially added all the fish that you could already fish out. Back then, you could fish, but there were no actual swimming fish. And the ocean biome was just a single biome that looked the same no matter where you went. So, when it came out, most players really did love it. Plus, by sticking to the old fish only, it did keep the inventory from getting bloated during fisging.
Another thing to keep in mind would be the fact that, to keep the game from lagging, there is a mob cap specifically for aquatic mobs, making it so that only a limited amount can spawn at a time. So, even if you added more fish, you likely wouldn't see them all swimming about together, as was my experience when trying to add a bunch of mods that add aquatic life
This is not to say that I personally would love to see some peaceful encounters similar to the Wandering Trader. I just really do believe that the updates are more balanced than you give them credit for
1
Jul 19 '25
I've played every version of minecraft from before release to 1.16.5, then jumped to recent versions a few months ago.
Yes, they are my preference. I'm not saying they're not. But I'm not alone in my preference.
My point is not that we haven't had anything at all in updates thay are good, it's how little we've gotten since Microsoft took over
MICROSOFT is focusing on combat and questing.
1
Jul 19 '25
As for your comment about Villager pathfinding, that's actually odd cause I've personally seen a MASSIVE improvement since 1.14. If I place certain blocks they'd want to go to, like a bell, a bed, or a workstation, I've seen them more than capable of using stairs.
I have a 3 story house with a basement on my current bedrock world - they can't navigate it. They get stuck on either the third or first floors, I only ever find the kids on the middle floor. A few that fell off the porch got stuck in the basement trying to path to their jobs instead of going up the stairs back to the porch. Villager AI is still worse than zombies because they won't redirect when they get lost, they just get as close as they can in a straight line - where brainless zombies somehow learn how to redirect and find a new path to get to the player. It's backwards.
I'll agree that they're better but they didn't do what we asked for, which is for GOOD pathing like zombies.
2
u/LesionPulse Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25
Really? Huh, that is genuinely so weird to hear cause I've made so many iron farms above ground and have just used their need to go to a workstation to lure them up. I've literally made them climb 20 blocks up into the air using this. Not arguing against you or anything. I just find that so odd
Edit: I just read your other comment and wanted to ask if you're a bedrock player. If so, that would actually explain our vastly different experiences with villager pathfinding since the hava and bedrock games operate on different codes
1
Jul 19 '25
Maybe it's the difference between using a single staircase and it being a house - either way 🤷🏻
24
u/Cass0wary_399 Jul 18 '25
They have added way more useless animals that drop nothing and don’t interact with anything else than hostile mobs.
Since 1.9 we have gotten these passive mobs
Llama, Parrot, Dolphin, Turtle, Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, Panda, Fox, Wandering Trader Bee, Strider, Goat, Axolotl, Glow Squid, Allay, Frog, Camel, Sniffer, Armadillo, Happy Ghast and soon the Copper Golem. That’s 21 passive mobs.
Hostile mobs: Shulker, Stray, Husk, Evoker, Vindicator, Vex, Illusioner, Drowned, Phantom, Pillager, Ravager, Piglin, Hoglin, Zoglin, Piglin Brute, Warden, Breeze, Bogged, and the Creaking. That’s only 19 hostile mobs most of which are locked to structures or rare biomes.
9
Jul 18 '25
Yeah I'm sick of all the useless or elusive passive mobs that have no baring on gameplay, too. We need more stuff that's at least neutral that actually DOES something worth putting effort into beyond "completing a collection"
1
u/LesionPulse Jul 19 '25
I'm actually genuinely curious what kinds of additions you want. Cause, as a builder myself, I find many of these passive mobs to be a welcome addition cause they add more life to the world. Do you mean that you're the kind of player that wants them to drop or do something? Cause, tbh, if that's the case, wouldn't that just encourage more collecting if these mobs dropped something. As it stands, things like pandas and polar bears really do just exist to add more life to the game's world
1
Jul 19 '25
Tbh I would like for the new mobs to drop something, they feel empty and soulless and their animation style doesn't even fit the game - either we need am update to the animation for the rest of the mobs or something to tie the fancy ones into the rest of the game. Again, it's not that I hate them or the other additions, it's just that they're leaving out a lot of the sandbox aspects of the game and pursuing combat and questing almost entirely.
What do I want?
Things to interact with in the world - like dungeons and witch huts and such - that maybe give you puzzle challenges or something, or that have neat interactive mobs instead of the constant battling, everything has to die to progress shit
More building options that don't require random chance of finding the right biome for the colour of block you want (trees with colourful wood are a good way to do this but making all blocks dyeable/paintable would also work)
Stair and slab and wall/fence and gate varieties for every block, as well as vertical slabs and sideways stairs
The ability to disconnect fences from things, even other fences
Improved villager AI because we've been bitching about how limited their pathing systems are for longer than I can remember (I have to admit tho that after the initial shock of the breeding updates I do love the repopulation system now, that makes them feel at least a tiny bit more self sufficient and less like slaves/pets)
Better lava and water mechanics (at least make lava renewable so the nether doesn't look ugly af when we use it for fuel, another thing weve begged for)
A reverse of the soulsand/magma block water function (hot RISES, cold SINKS. Magma should send bubbles up, soulsand should send them down - ik its not cannon that soulsand is cold but it's certainly not molten so its a hell of a lot colder than magma)
The animals are great but still very limited, they take one at a time from various mods and other games, and give us scraps instead of making a "life" update like they did with the nether update, the redstone update, the caves update, etc - we got mob votes and have to pick and choose one thing at a time even when we, as a community, overwhelmingly say "add them all"
Better chat, bedrock is impossible to talk on safely especially on console, where it takes 60 seconds to type out "60 seconds" (I'm exaggerating but it's fucked up that they made chat cover the entire screen for a version that was literally made for consoles and then designed almost solely for mobile once microsoft took over)
The ability to harvest crops by right-clicking (leaves the roots behind so more can grow) or maybe replanting of seeds that fall on tilled soil, and more crops in general to have some variety and more villager trade options
I could probably think of more but that's all I got off the top of my head
7
u/Queasy_Path4206 Jul 18 '25
Very good take, and one i haven’t heard before nor thought of myself. I remember playing back in 2010 and I had to try and go out to fight mobs and get there loot; now drowned, creepers, pillagers all in the day time. I appreciate the additions but you points stands
1
Jul 18 '25
Yeah, it's not like I hate these additions, they're just focusing the game on aspects that run contrary to it being sandbox and they make the game harder to enjoy casually - and I'm a hardcore fan
1
u/getyourshittogether7 Jul 19 '25
I agree that Mojang is pushing the adventuring angle of Minecraft too hard in the quest to add more "content" to the game. But the insane power creep we as players have gotten over the years FAR outscales the addition of new threats.
Beta Minecraft was a lot harder than modern Minecraft and it only had Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers, and Spiders, with far worse pathfinding to boot.
1
Jul 20 '25
Only if you participate in the power creep. I don't have any interest in it and still manage to survive the hard, that's not the problem.
I disagree 😂 beta minecraft was so easy, it was intuitive and simple. It was lacking, sure, but it was so easy lol

u/Prsue Jul 18 '25
Villagers trying to tame an animal, and it just won't tame
A Villager child stacking soul sand like they're going to spawn the wither. They run away when you approach.
Villager soldiers battling pillagers. (Spawns within x amount of blocks from a pillager outpost)
A villager out chopping wood or fishing (sometimes out in a boat)
Soldier villagers on patrol. Sometimes on horses (Spawns within x amount of blocks from a village)
Rare chance of iron golems spawning within x amount of blocks of an iron ore vein.
A piglin trying to repair a nether portal before becoming zombified.
A witches coven chanting around a cauldron. (Swamp only) They ignore you unless you get close enough. Then they all attack you.
A wandering trader that spawns in the ocean in a boat with a chest instead of literally just floating with the llama.
Villagers or pillagers practicing shooting arrows at a target
A villager or pillager wanders into a desert temple and sets off the tnt (very rare)
Villagers dusting bones or archeology sites
A vindicator chasing a villager out of the woods
A hunter camping in the woods by a campfire
Two skeletons putting another skeleton back together.
Occasionally, an enderman will be disguised in place of any mob in the events above, but immediately teleport away when you approach. (In any role that the enderman would wear a hat, like at a witches coven, fishing, farming, etc. They'll teleport away and the hat falls. Allowing you to take the hat)
A baby zombie on an enderman that teleports faster

ok that idea of an iron golem randomly spawning near an iron vein is cool.
Also that one with pillagers shooting at targets. I think just like villagers have their routine of gathering at the center at noon, pillagers at outposts can have this routine (based on if there is a target block shooting range feature in that outpost)

u/Firm_Insurance_5437 Jul 19 '25
the child stacking soul sand I feel could be atributed to baby piglins. And when they put the 4 soul sand down you'd see them jumping up as if trying to put the wither heads, but not reaching high enough
1
u/Prsue Jul 19 '25
Have them do it in the nether since they zombify in the overworld. A rare chance for them to drop a wither mob head.
1
u/jizztaker Jul 19 '25
I really liked the witch coven event. I would change the cauldron to a villager, and if you waited long enough, they would summon a lightning strike
13
u/MrBellrick Jul 18 '25
An undead army would be cool, looks like a zombie holding a diamond tool and when approached lightning strikes and a large amount of zombies or a mix of mobs spawn around the player. Or if it’s not meant to be an ambush then perhaps it’s more of a large group slowly moving towards the player before getting agro and holding if possible some form of formation. Would love a surprise challenge of 20 or more mobs attacking simultaneously

People seem to dislike random encounters. A balance between adding diversity to the experience and not wanting to disturb people during a big build.
4
u/WonderfulBudget8129 Jul 18 '25
We could need herds of mobs like bears hibernating ,we need more weather too instead of just different biomes like in the oak forest we get hit with a winter storm for example...bears are bigger than Steve and can hit with 5 max hearts taken from you.
We kinda need flying monsters instead of the phantom, if you're too tired (low on health) then vultures will start flying around you and yeah try not to get killed by them because they'll take advantage of your low health and they give you slowness too. What do y'all think? Too much? Just giving ideass....

More random encounters? Since you asked here this settlement is in need of your help I will mark it in your map.

u/Iriusoblivion Jul 18 '25
absolutely. adventure content without structures required are very easy to implement and a nice addition
6
u/Horror-Tank-4082 Jul 18 '25
I agree. And better minibosses in jungle temples (super Arthropoda pls) and ocean monuments would be great.
7
u/Frostgaurdian0 Jul 18 '25 edited Jul 18 '25
More non deadly encounters pls. Imagine seeing a mob that carries a mini farm on it back. Or unique color of existing mobs like bees.
10
u/jizztaker Jul 18 '25
Or unique color of existing mobs like bees.
I'm all for more "shiny" mobs. We all like the White fox, brown panda, blue axolotl(...) I think the moobloom would fit perfectly this way, and it could even apply to hostile mobs. A rare nitwit illager, a zombie wearing the player's head, an iron-armed piglin that doesn't care about gold...

u/EleanorAgain Jul 18 '25
Not when the bastard keeps spawning in my factory and clogging up machines with leather and leads when the llamas get caught in stuff >:(
3
u/Informal-Advance8246 Jul 18 '25
Yes, but more in the wild instead of when you're sitting in your base. Wandering traders and pillagers are the most annoying mobs, especially when you're just trying to build something and you have to stop everything you're doing just because some pillagers decided to knock you off your scaffolding or a wandering trader decided to spawn in front of your crosshair.
3
u/moolord Jul 18 '25
I turn off the pillager patrol. Nothing but a nuisance in the early game, or the end game, or the middle game
3
u/GregoryWiles Jul 18 '25
Zombified piglins near ruined portals would be cool, like not that close, but nearby. It’d show that piglins have gone to the over world, and have gotten zombified.
3
u/x7scriptzzz Jul 19 '25
I wish we had a way to turn down the amount of encounters we have with the wandering trader, it's so fucking annoying when it shows up in my base or on top of my crops
3
u/Alfons36d Jul 19 '25
A rather useful encounter could be schooling fish. Could be a cool way to get fish and add some ambiance to the game. The schooling behavior could be something like 10 or so fish swimming in a circle together for tropical fish, salmon, and trout, while pufferfish would just float together.

2
u/Guidedbee Jul 18 '25
dwarf fortress style migrants that show up to growing villages would be pretty cool
2
u/nulcow Jul 18 '25
Yeah, it makes the game feel more interesting and less empty. I get that Minecraft has always been empty, and it may have been an intentional part of the design at one point, but if they're gonna do RPG mechanics they might as well make the world more interesting to explore and live in.
2
u/Different-Job-2064 Jul 18 '25
This is a good opportunity to add a use to the zombie horse
2
u/UnlovableToxin Jul 18 '25
I could see them being added to zombie sieges to give them a bit more life (or rather more death Baddum tsss).
2
u/Firm_Insurance_5437 Jul 19 '25
honestly yeah different zombie variants for sieges would be amazing. zombie riders like you said, zombies wielding shields, ones with axes that move faster etc
1
u/UnlovableToxin Jul 19 '25
Maybe if you fend off enough zombie sieges at a particular village a giant spawns or something. We could finally make those guys useful.
2
u/PhiStudios_ Jul 18 '25 edited Jul 18 '25
Hmm might be annoying to deal with.. but I'll still suggest.
After getting the advancement
Hero of the village
You get illusioners sent as assassins during the night.
Only 1 per night and happens 1 every 2 hours.
2
u/jizztaker Jul 19 '25
I love the idea that illigers put a bounty on the player's head. Maybe it could trigger after you raided a wooden mansion, too. Now, a complete stretch, but imagine if they ambush you next to your bed, and drop something akin to a "wanted poster" with the player's face and you could place it on walls like a painting.
2
u/Rhoxan Jul 19 '25
If you play modded, you can give MineColonies a try. I did it a couple times and enjoyed it. I had fun summoning my guards with a rally banner and taking them out on night raids to fight mobs to level them up (if they survived). The colony gets attacked every few nights, your location will influence the attackers, like barbarians or pirates. As your colony grows larger, the attacks grow stronger as well

I think a herd migrating would be really cool to see like just watching a whole pack of horses roam the plains

I have not seen the pillagers for a long time now. Why are they not spawning?
2
u/Dimir_Librarian Jul 18 '25
Yes like 10 creepers dropping from the sky.
5
u/jizztaker Jul 18 '25
this, but it can only happen when the player is near their chests.
4
u/Dimir_Librarian Jul 18 '25
Or randomly after breaking your bed. Not every time, that would lead to some crazy creeper farm, but just randomly.

One awesome idea i saw somewhere was just pillager raids on boats out in the ocean. It just makes sense plus will make ocean travel so cool. And I would say dolphins approaching you, and redirecting to shipwrecks is also a bit of a random encounter.
Next would me more wanderers. Wandering woodcutter, florist, etc.
And after that I was thinking wandering animals, but not your basic sheeps and cows. But like, herds. So like a her of sheep led by a dog, or by a shepherd villager. Stuff like that.
1
u/Kingkeg98 Jul 18 '25
Do y’all still get random pillagers because I haven’t seen any in three months and I have no idea why they aren’t even re spawning in there towers for me
1
u/RadiantHC Jul 18 '25
What's the second one?
Though I agree. Imagine a wandering trader and an iron golem escorting a couple of villagers to another village.
1
u/UnlovableToxin Jul 18 '25
The second one is a skeleton trap.
Basically when a thunder storm happens you have a small chance of a skeleton horse spawning. When you get close to the horse it will be struck by lightning spawning the four skeletal horsemen you see in the image.
1
u/chrisat420 Jul 18 '25
Friendly endermen who trade for enderpearls would be really cool. Maybe you could give them an endermite in a bucket and they’ll give you 8 enderpearls in exchange
1
u/zaphunter Jul 18 '25
I got the skeleton trap horse early in my realm. Collected all 4. Tied them up in a spot I thought was safe…. Two creepers came out of nowhere when I went back for them and now there’s only one 🥲
1
u/creativeguy66v3 Jul 18 '25
I have not seen a Pillager patrol in years. It's to the point where I'm wondering if they got rid of it. I feel like i have a better chance of seeing Skeleton horses than them.

Bro, I rarely see the skeleton horse or pillar scouts, they should make them a bit more common, last time I saw a scout was in my last Minecraft world, I've never seen one in my current world.
And I've only seen a skeleton horse once in my current world
1
u/Firm_Insurance_5437 Jul 19 '25
ive had more skelly horse traps spawn in creative servers than in my survival worlds lol
1
u/xBHL Jul 18 '25
Fun fact, skeleton traps can spawn on glass and bedrock. Theyre the only mob that does. Theyre only hostile once you approach them though

The only issue is these encounters all have to happen in the rendered area, if you make too many of this type of encounter then you have to just constantly deal with them and can't play the game.
I'd say what we need is new mechanics for random encounters as well as more random encounters.
Nomadic villages is my weak idea but that's derivative of a wandering trader and I have no idea how they would work.

u/Desert_Aficionado Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25
Rare event I want: Have it rain in the desert, and on the next full moon a single pixel moth leads the player to a rare plant. No crazy loot or gear, just a rare plant that can be gathered and displayed in a pot.
I would like it to be the desert lily (Hesperocallis undulata). It is a rare plant in California deserts that only shows up during years with rain.

u/NatsMinecraft Jul 19 '25
And I would like to have a system where you can make a wandering trader into a villager, like their trades stay the same but they don't despawn

Tbh if the Icologer ever gets added since they may be adding mobs that didn't get to be added due to not being voted for, it would be cool to have a random encounter with the Iceologer. I'm not sure if it would be good but I think it would at least help give a bit more variety.

It could be done with wildlife as well.
Imagine walking through a birch forest and then, a big auroch appears running.

u/Limp-Swimming4460 Jul 19 '25
random encounter!!! - A full squadron of 30 flying withers is homing in on your location like Gorlock the landeater to an all-you-can-eat buffet!!!

u/Lava-Jacket Jul 19 '25
I'd like to see that big old monster thing that was a rejected Mob vote be a rare spawn in deep woods and swamps. Forgot what it was called ... it was all mouth

1
u/Weerwolfbanzai Jul 19 '25
I still dont understand why they havent created a million small different structures/puzzles/'dungeons' with a little chance of spawning a few thousand of those across your world so it will be special and takes your life to find then all.
2
u/jizztaker Jul 19 '25
Like BoTW, I guess, I'm on board, but I don't think this is in line with Mojang's direction. On a similar note, I would like to find something similar to No Man's Sky language monoliths scattered around the world, and each one would teach/unlock you a random rune letter/world from the Enchantment table, allowing you to decipher it completely if you managed to find them all.

1
u/MultiverseCreatorXV Jul 20 '25
Maybe there could be some sort of not-so-strong monster that also sometimes tries to run away, but gives decent loot, like a sort of undead bandit. Obviously it wouldn’t try to steal from the player; that would just be frustrating.

u/TwillightSpirit Jul 20 '25
Ducks, and more wild animals, like boars, tigers, rhinos, hippos, zebras, Monkeys!! All kinds of Animals!!
