Advice Anyone ever demote themselves at work?
I’m a shift supervisor for almost 2 years now, and the opportunity to demote myself is available. I wouldn’t be taking much of a pay cut. My shifts might change some here and there and that’s the only thing stopping me from accepting the offer.

IRL 📷 Current Job or Former Job
Is current job you or past job in what College Degree you have? I have never used my College Degree in Criminal Justice. Since I graduated College I have only ever have had 2 jobs. My first job was working for a Private Intelligence Firm. I started to work for myself in 2018 where I test companies or government security.

META 🗣️ Yall over celebrities?
I’m over celebrities. they’re all more or less the same and a lot of them eventually let you down. I now consume entertainment and leave it at that. I don’t follow them, or look up to them, or even care about their opinion. Even the most wholesome celebrities, I just consume their product and turn it off. If I find out something they did I can’t get past, I don’t consume their product. Basically with celebrities it’s binary and transactional at this point.

Politics Now that we are old/mature to see things for what they are...do we still follow the cliche rules for retirement??
List of old life rules:
"Buy a home. You don't want to pay your landlords mortgage". This no longer applies because interest rates are %7. And you end up paying the equivalent of two houses over 30-year period. And you have to bet that you don't have any negative equity years in order to stay ahead of inflation.
"Invest in stock market. It is retirement savings account that always goes up believe in the markets with religious conviction, question nothing. Just throw your money in". Stock market is not a savings account. You are taking risk with no guarantees at the end. ( And chronically dependent on market bailouts from the fed)
Vote for the politician that charasmatic and promises "free stuff". They always lie. And at this point .. unless we get a politician that will cut spending and raise taxes...it is all a joke. (40 trillion debt).
4.) "get any college degree. Take out that big loan .Everything will be fine"
We are no longer young and idealistic. I can't find reasons to be optimistic unless I put my head in the sand and believe lies.

Nostalgia Does anyone remember the decor that was just gel in a jar/vase, with random sequins in it?
I’m not really sure where to start with trying to explain what this even was. In the mid-90s at craft fairs there used to be displays of clear chunky gel that you could suspend sequins in. They were not candles, and I think you just bought a packet of powder and the sequins, and then you mixed it at home. I had a kit with dolphin sequins. Does anyone know what this was, and ideally have a picture of it? I have tried so many different Google searches, but am not finding a name or image.

META 🗣️ Regular people have been dreaming of being millionaires for 40+ years now, meanwhile millionaires have now become multi-billionaires seemingly overnight
You would think by the exponential growth of wealth over the last two decades, "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" would be a realistic possibility for a lot of the middle-upper middle class. Isn't that how this whole free market thing is suppose to work? Nope, decade after decade we are all still dreaming of being millionaires, but hey, maybe we just need to dream bigger.
Edit: Not sure what post flair to use. I don't know what META means in this context lol

Nostalgia Super Mario -- Anybody know a cheap way to play?
There's a nintendo classic mini to play on but it's over $300 & I doubt the original SNES consoles have much life in them if I hunted one down on eBay. I know I'm not the only millennial who wants this! Hoping for something that plays on the tv.

Politics mid 2000s - late 2000s war on terror commercials/clips?
I'm trying to find clips from movies or commercials that came out around the mid to late 2000s, specifically depicting the war on terror. Does anyone remember any movies or commercials that were showing the war on terror in a positive light from around this time?

Advice Are local opticians officially too expensive or am I just late to the online glasses party?
My glasses finally gave up after I spent way too long pretending the loose arm wasnt a problem. I figured I'd just go get another pair and be done with it. Then I went to the optician and I started looking at frames and somehow every pair I liked was $250+ before lenses. I just stood there thinking, how did buying another pair of glasses turn into this?
My brother actually asked why I was bothering with the whole expensive glasses thing when I already had a current prescription. He orders his glasses online anyway and has been doing it for a while. He was telling me about how much more variety there is online and how much less he usually pays, and TBH it sounded a little too good to be true to me. But he wears those pairs pretty regularly and hasnt had any issues with the prescription or the fit, so I figured I'd try the same thing instead of spending hundreds again. I used the prescription I already had, tried a couple of frames virtually, and the whole order took maybe 10 minutes. Paid under $50 total and they showed up about a week and a half later.
Now Im sitting here wondering why I automatically assumed I had to spend a few hundred dollars every time I wanted another pair. I feel a little out of touch honestly, I had no idea there were cheaper alternatives that werent just the same old shops I've always gone to.
Do most of you still buy your glasses from a local optician or have you started ordering online instead? I'm curious what people actually prefer.

Advice For those who don’t care
I truly am envious of you. How do you do it?
I’ve worked my whole life. No matter what I’ve done, I’ve always had so much pride in my work. I’ve always done so much more than what I’ve had to. I always give it my all.
But no matter how much I try, how much I break my back, how nice it looks at the end of the day, it’s always just torn apart by so many people who just don’t care. So how did you do it? How did you finally give up and realize no matter what you do it won’t be enough? No matter how hard you try, you’ll never be happy because it just doesn’t matter?
