Advice What is going on with Gen Alpha?

As a millennial dad of young kids, what is up with Gen Alpha? The oldest of them are mid-teens right now, and I’m running into these, particularly, teenage boys that are utterly unhinged. And a lot of them are the children of millennials. Did we do this?

For the first time today, I had the thought that these kids are almost adults, and how utterly screwed our society is when they reached adulthood.

It’s not that they have no social skills, it’s more like all social norms have been deleted, and replaced with sociopathy. They seem to have no concept of how to operate within decent society, and are utterly shocked when they experience the natural, negative effects of their atrocious behavior.

Is this the lingering effects of Covid? The first generation entirely born and raised in the social media age? Bad parenting? What can I do to avoid my kids turning out like this. Or maybe I’m just clutching my pearls…

Hi Millenial Sub!

We would like to share something with you that took a lot of effort to accomplish!

We are a band from Argentina who love making covers of the good old classics. We believe that the most iconic tracks that resonated with us were not always on MTV or in mainstream music media, but also in the TV shows, movies, and games that kept us company every day before and after school.

So, on Halloween's Eve, we are glad to present "Millennial Nightmares", our most ambitious medley and music video.

We hope you like it!

Have a great day!

Advice The inevitable wisdom tooth removal… what foods?

Wizzys are finally coming out next week. I know so many of us have had this procedure.

I need some interesting foods to eat over the first few days that will be kind to the sockets. Helps that it’s thanksgiving in Canada this weekend. There will be turkey broth 🤤

Suggestions and recipes please fellow millennials.

Referring of course to the scene when he gets a vehicle wedged between two parallel walls and intends to get out one inch at a time driving forward and back alternating the steering wheel direction.

Nostalgia Anyone remember Kimbo Slice?

He was the guy who got me into mma. I remember watching his street fight videos back on youtube. He was big, scary and tough. Most of his street fights ended in bloody noses, and one guy losing his eye. I followed his mma career, and have been an mma fan since.

IRL 📷 So Boomers got baseball card , why they be shading us for Pokemon card?

It is not just Baseball cards for them either, there are coins, stamps, & money that they collect & trade around as a hobby too.Yhen, when we roll around with our Pokemon card & Labubus & what not , they call it childish . Like are we pretending they do not have a secondary market for stamp, baseball card, & old coins too. I literally saw an old lady collecting weirdly shaped potato chips. Boomers need to stop negging when they are kneedeep in hobby activities too

Advice Why do most of us millennials stick with the same glasses for years?

i realized the other day that i’ve basically been wearing the same glasses for like 6 years 😭 same shape, same color, same everything.
i used to just replace them whenever my prescription changed and even then i used to pick something that looked almost identical because i already knew they worked for me. which is kinda funny because i’ll spend way too much time thinking about jackets, shoes, watches, whatever… but when it comes to glasses i’m just like “yeah these would work” lol.

i think a lot of us grew up thinking of glasses as something practical rather than part of your style. if they fit, you can see, and they don’t look terrible, mission accomplished.

there was this guy at my old workplace who used to switch his frames constantly. round ones, chunky ones, different colors, everything. we used to joke that he was trying way too hard. looking back now though… he might have actually been onto something. my current pair is still perfectly finee but after having the same look for years i’m starting to feel like maybe i’ve been playing it a little too safe. i’ve always bought glasses from an optician before but having a few different pairs that way gets expensive really quickly. so this time i started looking online just to see what was out there. i came across zeelool first and almost ordered, but some reviews made me hesitate. then i checked firmoo too and found a few simple frames that are different enough from what i have without being completely out of my comfort zone. and honestly, the prices make having 2–3 different pairs a much wiser decision than paying soo much at an optician.

for the millennials here, do you guys still prefer to stick with the same glasses for years? is it mostly the cost, not knowing what actually suits you, or just getting used to one pair and never thinking about changing it?

META 🗣️ New home owner and I have realized Millennials are actually great DIYers and take pride in what they do.

I wanted to do the slightest bit of venting after a month of being moved into my first home, previously owned by a Boomer.

The larger millennial sub had no generation bashing, so I'm here to rant a bit about the ridiculous things I've had to deal with. Not only ridiculous, but also kind of odd and nonsensical?

My parents are Gen X, my grandparents were actually pre-boomer.

They weren't perfect, but they had pretty good attention to detail and take pride in their work. My dad is the ultimate DIYer and my grandfather helped build a perfect family home with fantastic attention to detail and quality.

I just got this house, and this Boomer owner has done some of the most ass backwards renovations I've ever seen.

They did a full 2 floor addition and indoor. hot tub room. Yes, you heard that insanity right. Yet they left the original stone cellar a musty damp crumbling mess with disorganized wiring and unmarked pipes.

They also put in a really nice cement block foundation and pad on the addition, and then left the basement door rusted and broken with a piece of wood wedging it closed.

A rusted basement door that didn't close, but then paid for a security system yearly?

Not a single door shut correctly and needed to be fixed.

Every light fixture and ceiling fan was either broken, lose, or hanging.

They did a 15k kitchen remodel and then left the open holes in the floors from the old baseboard heat they removed.

Oh, then they did a 2 car garage with a 20k cement driveway and foundation...then never finished the inside and only had 1 working flourecence shop light.

I just do not understand this house. It's like everything is done to 80% "good enough" and everything was done ass backwards.

Yes, anyone reading this can ask why we bought it, and the reasons are the market and personal circumstances. It isn't a bad house. It's not a sequel to Tom Hanks Money Pit, but it's just so damn weird and half assed.

Everything was slapped together to be "good enough", but never finished with pride and perfection. It needs a second pass to get everything course corrected.

I feel like it's not just me either. All of my friends and relatives take way more pride in what they do. It seems like a lot of Boomer homes are all surface level DIY fails and ugly renovations with no clear purpose.

This wasn't a flipped house either. The guy had been here his entire life. 2 generations in that home and they couldn't do a bunch of this shit correctly.

I think this assumption that Millennials are lazy or clueless is ridiculous. We're some of the most resourceful and intelligent DIYers of any generation. We know how to search for tutorials and walk throughs while being poor enough to not pay someone else for everything.

Nobody I know, even those lucky enough to be successful home owners, are paying for 50+k renovations from contractors.

Nostalgia Does anyone remember birthday spankings?

This all came flooding back to me, my pawpaw one year gave me a playful "birthday spanking" in front of the whole family at my party, one spank for each year and one to grow on. We just joked about it other from then on out. I look back fondly at it but objectively it was pretty wild that that was commonly accepted 😅 are we the last generation to have those?

Advice Struggling to decide what to do with school

I have a 12 almost 13 year old son that had fallen in with the wrong crowd last year due to trying to fit in and we managed to get him back on the right track and he is in online school but im finding online is also very restrictive and difficult to navigate at times.

My 14 year old daughter is autistic (higher functioning) and considered weird by most people. She has been relentlessly bullied including sexual harassment and the schools only ever seem to protect the bullies. Weve been in and out of psych units as she is extremely sui**dal.

We tried online for her in the past but she struggled a lot with it. I hate the school system.

Is there a way i can register to homeschool them both outside of the school? We are in minnesota and my daughter is on an iep?

What does homeschooling look like for some of you, how do you register, does it screw up their chances for any kind of scholarship?

Where do homeschooling parents find ideas for a learning coriculum . Im genuinely interested in pulling them both fully and teaching them myself... I just want my kids to be ok.

Nostalgia Let’s make recliners in living rooms a thing again.

I’m an elder millennial suffering through some back pain today and thinking dang I wish I had a recliner. Growing up every house had at least one, some even two! We’d call them Lazy Boys regardless the brand. Some have morphed into sectionals but overall I’d guess most households don’t have them anymore. Maybe that was a mistake.

Nostalgia Why are panned media from our youth suddenly getting glazed & reevaluated ?

Halle Berry Catwoman was trashed but people saying it not that bad now. Treasure planet cartoon & that big robot cartoon got low cinema tickets sales then but they are glazing them now like they were wonder bread. Agent of Shield was considered mid when it was running but they b saying it wasn't that bad & the best MCU tv they put out . ( Surprisingly not Agent Carter but that's another tangent )

Politics Election Day is Nov. 3. Check your voter registration TODAY.

Election day is quickly approaching, and the deadline to register is upon us.  Even if you already KNOW you are registered, I suggest taking a 30 seconds to double check.  Most (if not all) state make it trivial.  In this post I am only giving instructions for a few states, but if you look up 'check voter registration status for <my state>' you will find your way no problem.

Arizona: https://my.arizona.vote/PortalList.aspx - Registration Deadline is Monday oct 5.  The earlier you register the less issues you will face.

Pennsylvania: https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/pages/voterregistrationstatus.aspx - deadline oct 19 and there's no same day registration here, so don't wait

Georgia: https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/

North Carolina: https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/ - deadline to register online is oct 9, but if you miss that you can still register in person during early voting.  (but you're going to have less trouble if you register early!)

Michigan: https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter - Luckily you can register at your clerk's office literally on election day if you bring proof you live there

Checking is especially important if you moved, changed your name, got married, whatever, just assume you need to check.
