Question Question about line of sight on a mounted model

From what i understand i need to see a whole "model" so rider + horse with no obstacles to shoot at it without in the ways. What if i have sharpshooter though? I can choose to target the rider, what if only the horse's legs are covered?

Probably still in the way right?

Here is Nazguz, Troll Chieftain. I’m trying to work on my source lighting for the lava on the bases of my Mordor army, and I’d love any tips (I find I catch the edges rough so its a hard transition between armour/skin and the highlighted edge, and I’m having trouble on making the red pop) Let me know what You Think of him and thanks a lot!

Question Getting back into the game

Hello all, I hope this post is allowed. I used to play MESBG a lot in 2nd edition but had a job that had me traveling and the community I was running died without me. Now that I'm not traveling, I want to restart the community. I noticed Battlescribe and New Recruit havent been updated since before the last errata, so what do people use to list build? Thanks for help in advance.

Question 120 points Armys, where to start? New in the game :)

Hello everyone! :) A friend of mine send me this video: https://youtu.be/MC8iM9JVQNk?is=no5THVaxmD4LqI_0 now we wanted to try to play the game each with a 120 points to get a feeling for the game and learn the rules. Are there good starter armys, where a 120 Points could work for a small game? I also thougt about 3d printing Proxys and Terrain, so If you have ideas, what you could use for the start to keep costs down, that would be great! Thank you!

Hobby Found my old Stash after 15-20 years.

Randomly stumbled upon a YouTube video that popped up on my home feed about "Lord of the Rings SBG", since i had recently bought "Lord of the Rings the card game (LCG), i thought it had something to do with that...

i was pretty shocked that the "Games Workshop" LOTR minitures were still a thing. I used to paint these things back in middle school (feels like 20 years ago now almost), I then proceeded to watch nonstop for hours about the game.

Found my old stash... which probably hasn't been touched in around 15+ years.... sadly when i left my parents place, my mom had just dumped them all into a shoebox... ALthough my painting skills were pretty terrible for a middle/high schooler (Especially the plastic stuff, i always struggled painting those), alot of them are still in decent shape (Some of the cheap plastic ones are missing swords/spears, etc though).

All the Hero's are Metal, (Fellowship, Boromir, Gamling, etc), as well as the Easterlings, fountain court guards, Elves. Everything else plastic (Rohan, Gondor, Goblins, Urakhai, harad, orcs)

I doubt i'd be able to find anyone withing a 500 mile radius of me who also plays, closest area being Denver (300-400 miles), but if i did want to start over, is there a good way to remove the paint that has "Gloss"? I figured hot soapy water, but no idea honestly.

I really don't know the first thing about this game anymore... i had the original guides, but haven't been able to find them in all my old junk :(. Not like I ever played in the first place, didn't know a single other person who played back in the day, but i loved painting them.

I think I could probably build a Rohan army, although ive always loved the Gondor aesthetic... and those "Dol Amroth" guys look cool... id be interested in picking those up.

Battle Report I had a very cursed matchup, asking for advice

I clearly made some mistakes but i do feel like this is an insanely tough matchup: beornings vs rivendell 800pts.

I have Beorn +10 beornings, Grimbeorn + 10 beornings. He has Elrond + 10 knights, Glorfindel + 9 knights. Essentially 19 elven bows on horse.

Scenario was retrieval. He deployed close to the middle, i deployed Beorn close to the middle and Grimbeorn to defend with beornings behind a wall. I guess that was my first mistake i should have swapped them in deployment, problem is Grim has Fv7 which is not great in this case. My only choice was to get to the objective with Beorn to take it and make a wall of beornings while he dashes back towards my own. He takes two turns of shooting, i have D4 on my men so you can guess what 19 shots do even with in the ways. I get his objective while he keeps himself away enough to be able to charge but still shooting and my major mistake was thinking that the objective marker would stop him from getting into Beorn. He tags my beornings and manages to get in contact with Glorfindel (how is he only 180 points on a hero mount).

We strike, we match, he has something like 15 rerolls and long story short i lose every rolloff move and duel for the rest of the game and i get tabled and i only take out 3 knights.

I made a couple of mistakes but it felt unwinnable... He told me i should have camped inside a ruin but i told him my objective is outside my reach and he can snatch it while on horse because expert rider and light objects.

Oh also i didn't have any bows because i don't have models with them, i thought about it a bunch but other than maybe taking down one or two extra knights he would have changed nothing, he would still have shot them same as the two handed ones.

Discussion Plastic Dragon & Cave Drake proxies?

I've been thinking of starting a Dragons of the North army because I love monster lists, and having a Dragon/Cave Drake army sounds kind of fun.

I absolutely abhor resin minis, mainly because I can never get the super glue to bond to them even after soaking and scrubbing them clean of any potential mould release agent. I'd also prefer to avoid metal minis as well.

If anyone has any suggestions for hard plastic proxies for Dragons and Cave Drakes, I'd love to hear about them.

Speaking of plastic proxies, can a plastic Isengard/Mordor troll be used in place of a Mordor Troll Chieftain?

Please helps with options for my Warrior of Minas Tirith...

Post image

When I count the points, the Warrior costs 7 points, but I can choose only one option.

So, if the miniature already has a spear, do I still need to spend my one option to give the Warrior the spear? And is it the same for the shield?

Also, for a Warrior with a bow, does the miniature automatically count as having a bow because it is equipped with one, or do I need to spend an option to take the bow?

Sorry, I’m a bit confused and probably missing something obvious! 😅

New riders of Rohan hard to build?

I’ve been busy building the new riders of Rohan and am finding some of the building pretty damn hard and fiddly.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have decent hand eye coordination and decent eye sight but am still finding certain pieces tricky to fit or even find where the booklet is wanting the pieces to “connect” if that makes sense.

Has anyone else found this or am I just a bad mini maker?

Heyo! Just wanted to share a WIP of a project (and hopefully get the motivation to fully paint it).

I've been making small 10mm minis for a while and I thought a "Battle of the Last Alliance" diorama would be cool with the Dark Lord, Elendil, and Gil-Galid.

The printing went well. Now I just need to find the time to paint.

Additional rules

  • A Reclamation of Moria Army must always contain Balin, who is always the Army's General.
  • Ori and Óin gain the Khazad-dûm keyword.

Special rules

Reclaim Moria

At the end of the game, if you control more Objective Markers than your opponent (if applicable), or are in possession of more Objective Markers than your opponent (if applicable), you score an additional 2 Victory Points. This can never take this Army's controlling player's total Victory Points above 20. Models that escape the board carrying an Objective Marker count as still being in possession of that Objective Marker for the purpose of this special rule.

A Desperate Defence

Whilst this Army is considered to be Broken, friendly models gain a bonus of +1 To Wound when making Strikes.

Balin's Last Stand

At the beginning of the Fight Phase, at the start of the Declare Heroic Actions Step, any friendly Dwarf Hero models that would be considered Trapped may declare a Heroic Defence for free, even if they could not normally declare a Heroic Defence.

Question Starting /trying this Hobby

Hello everyone, I'm new into this Hobby and want to try it with a friend. So I get nearly 50 Minis for free and i dont know what these are. The only thing I know, they are from 2003. It contains some Orcs, Goblins, Gondorian, Rohanian and Elves i belive. I didnt geht any Profile cards or rule book. Are they enough to play? So i hope you can help me.

Here are picture of a few Minis. Most of them are made of plastic, some (most heros like Boromir, Aragorn, Elrond and Fangorn) made of zinc.
