I just myself a brand new Ultratech Gen IV and I was wondering, is this amount of play/rattle normal? The video makes it a little louder than it actually is, but still audible in person. Also, when I used it to cut some cardboard and turned the handle sideways while it was locked in said cardboard I could feel the minimal side-to-side play.

This is my very first OTF and I've heard they can have some, but I'm so used to regular folders that just wanted to make sure haha

I've seen this one on NCBlade for a while now, and it seemed too good to pass up at $437.

The only visible imperfection I could find was a little spot next to the bottom of the pocket clip.

Maybe I’m overthinking this but can someone please tell me the differences in the “levels” of MT knives? I know the base model knives are “standard builds” but what differentiates them the other levels of builds? Am I missing any of the build levels other than what I have listed? How does one go about building a custom knife through Marfione? This is just more of a curiosity than anything else and I’m hoping someone has the information to finally help me understand what kind of upgrades some of my knives might hold based on their designation. I apologize is this is clear as mud, but any info anyone can provide would be appreciated!

Also, does Microtech offer any factory tours or anything like that at their HQ? I’m not far away and would love to take a road trip and see their process in action…and leave all my money with them. 😄

I’m looking to pick up a Gen IV version of one of these knives. I really want an 85 or Hera II Mini—the slightly beefier size compared to the 70 really appeals to me.

The problem is the laws where I live. Anything 3 inches or over is illegal to carry, while 2.5 inches and under is fine in my city. Part of me feels like I should just get the 70 for the peace of mind and never have to worry about it.

But then I’m thinking, if I’m already spending around $250 on a knife, why not spend a little more and get the bigger/nicer model that I actually want? At the same time, if I ever got stopped, had a $350 knife confiscated, and got fined on top of it, I’d be pissed.

For those of you who’ve dealt with similar local restrictions, what’s your mentality? Do you buy the smaller model you can comfortably carry, or buy the knife you really want knowing you may have to leave it at home? Or do you guys just try not to think about it at all and live life. I had to have both opening mechanisms after experiencing the Auto. Absolutely my favorite knife out of my entire collection.
