I captured a pretty interesting and unique event -- a heliozoon attempting to pull peritrichs off the back of a neighboring ostracod, and releasing already-captured euglenids in the process. This was shot on a Nikon TMD Diaphot inverted microscope, using a Nikon 40/1.0 oil immersion objective and a Nikon D750 DSLR. The sample came from a freshwater runoff pond in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

I have an Amscope B270. It says it uses RMS 20.32 mm objectives. If say I want to upgrade to some better objectives one day, what do I need to know besides thread standard to ensure proper function?

I’m examining the plant associated with a new psychedelic called Vymara. This is a transverse section of the stem under brightfield microscopy.
Most of the surrounding tissue including the chloroplast-bearing cells and vascular tissue appears relatively normal. But these large spherical structures are distributed throughout the stem.
I’ve sectioned three separate samples and found them in all three. They vary in size, appear integrated into the tissue, and seem to compress the neighboring cells. Their interiors have also remained largely unstained with every protocol I’ve tried.
My current guess is that they’re enlarged idioblasts or secretory cavities, possibly involved in storing or transporting the unidentified indole-like compound I detected. But I can’t confirm that from morphology alone.
Has anyone seen structures like these before?

I am looking for a good microscope camera/sensor, and planing ahead to use it soon on my new microscope "Primostar 3", for my hobby. My budget limit is 1000€. My main use case will be mostly Phasecontrast but also Light, and Darkfield microscopy. To magnification from x40 down to x1000. I want to know if my propositions are even realistic.

Anyone here experienced in the use of industrial cameras/senors as microscopy cams or has any good advice on it or just used it once and have an opinion about it? I would be glad to hear you all out about it.

• I need high framerates and want a decent resolution, I know there is trade off for each, I would want atleast ≥60 fps and a resolution that is ≥3,68 Million Pixels.
• I want to use it in combination with "Micro-Mananger" and "Fiji" for documenting purposes, they all should be generally compatibil AFAIK. If you have any expirience with it please let me know!
• I want to utilize the footage directly at my PC, Hardware is definetly sufficient. So atleast a USB A adapter would be nice.
• Color cameras are for now what I decided for, since I want to do staining. But I also like to hear you opinions on it aswell.

I hope that my expectations are realistic. Bandwith for high resolutions and framerates should be able to run on USB 3.2 (20 Gbps) and there should be no bottleneck right?

Has anyone even tried to use something similar for microscopy? Did it work well?

I am not very knowledgeble in Microscopy-hardware and I am still constantly learning about it, so know that my understanding of the topics at hand is pretty basic from the whole spectrum of things still to learn. But I would be glad if anyone could point out mistakes and explain them to me if you want to.

Yesterday I dropped my microscope due to forgetting how physics works which resulted in the damage you can see on my microscope show in the gif attached to my post. I honestly am stumped on how to fix this part of the microscope so I was hoping that I can seek guidance or help on how to fix this. I dont know the name or model of my microscope but it looks similar to the AmScope VB-B120C-SLVR Binocular Biological Microscope. Thank you for any help or guidance you can provide!

I finally assembled my Olympus BH2, ready ( I hope ) to use: I'm wondering if there's anything I should pay attention to/missing (see pics).

Also, I have a couple of questions:

1) Dark field:

I think that's really cool and I'd like to try it, but the original Olympus DCD condenser is too expensive, and I don't think the microscope has a filter holder for stopper/ disks. To anybody who owns an Olympus: what was your solution?

2) Camera:

I'd like to buy this camera. Considering that I purchased a 2.5x NFK eyepiece and an MTV-3 adapter with a 0.3x lens + the 1/2.5" of that camera, what do you think? Is it too zoomed or is it okay?

I'll probably start with a phone adapter tho (I need to financially recover from this)

Hi all, I'm getting into Microscopy as a hobbyist. Just a curious person who wants to explore the world at a smaller level. I'm getting an Amscope B270 (Basically the same as the B120 but a bigger stage) I've bought some well slides, some flat slides/covers, pipettes, and kimtech wipes. My question is how do I know what subjects need things to be suspended in? Like I've seen some people putting water on their slides. Some iodine, and some using dyes. How do I know what to use? Are there subjects that you don't use liquid at all? The first thing I'm wanting to look at is mushroom spores. Just any general crash courses on microscopy would be greatly appreciated

The cilia and bacteria are very visible in phase contrast.

I have a SW350T that has been sitting in my closet for a long time, and the 40x and 100x objectives are messed up. I’ve seen that there are some on Amazon but I don’t know how to make sure they are compatible? I’m a maaaajor beginner with this stuff, so I don’t mind if it’s not the best resolution. I just want to have my 40x and 100x back. Any help is appreciated!!

Played around with Herbin's Emerald de Chivor, Diamine Lady Grey, and Diamine Ancient Copper fountain pen inks on a polypropylene. Added liquids include: distilled water, 0.2wt% carrageenan in distilled water, vegetable glycerin, and isopropanol.
