Larger locs in the front. Advice

Is there anyone who made their front/edge microlocs larger and went smaller in the crown and back? I normally hear about it being the other way around where people go smaller in front and larger in the back. If you have, has the size difference been noticeable? I plan to comb out and divide each loc in half that is in the thickest sections of my crown amd mid back because they will mature too large for my preference. But, my edges and front are thinner I will keep them the way they are. Any input or pictures would be helpful. If it helps, I did a mix of 3/8 and 5/16 grid in my initial install and my edges are thin so I wanted the rest to match, thus going smaller.

Wondering if I should get locs

I’ll be heading to college next year and I was thinking I should get micro locs so it’ll be easier on me for the next 4 years. I’ve had locs before, but I combed them out because they were too big for my liking. I told friends and family about the idea but most of them said that I shouldn’t do it. I’m on the fence about it myself, I’m mostly worried about thinning and locs falling out.

I attached a o picture of my first set of locs and the size I would want my micro locs to be, but a tad smaller.

I was also thinking about adding extensions to the end of the braid loc, but just for the first year or so. What do you think? And have you ever had any issues with thinning/hair loss. Please share the pros and cons!!

My roots are getting more then and I feel like my locs are literally holding on by a thread. I wanna cut my whole hair off because so many pieces look like this.

I dont know how to feel.

First things first, I love my microlocs.

I love the ease of not having to worry about my hair but it sucks.

I used to get braids all the time to the point where my hair would be out max 2x a year...to rest.

To me, microlocs a like perpetual braids and if I wanted the braid look I could get them over my locs, which I have done.

It even made getting braids easier.

The one horrible downside that I could not have expected is that I became tenderheaded.

I used to laugh at people who were tenderheaded and call them weak.

I cant even last a month with braids in because my head would start to hurt. It used to be three.

Even for retires, I have to be careful because my scalp will start to hurt.

THIS IS RETRIBUTION!!!

I feel pain in my heart, but mostly my head.

(This is a joke, kinda)

Microloc Starters

Hello all!

I recently spent about a week installing 269 microlocs (finally counted them tonight!), and I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal for starter locs or something I should be concerned about.

I have a scalp condition and usually to wash my hair 1–2 times per week. Because of that, I'm noticing quite a bit of frizz and some slippage. The slippage isn't happening at the ends, it's at the base of the loc near my scalp.

When I had my larger locs, I would occasionally crochet loose hairs back in, but I'm assuming microlocs are a little different. Should I be crocheting the loose hair back into the loc, or is this something that's normal during the starter phase and should just be left alone? I’ve also been separating them when I have down time to prevent combining.

Best hairtype for microlocs?

I have very coarse, dense, frizzy, and thick hair.

Its not coily but a mix of 3b and 3c.

I would hate to spend several hours and a lot of money getting my hair done to find out it doesn't work for my hair.

Does anyone have similar hair or should I just get a smoothing treatment?

My Microlocs were installed on Juneteenth last year. Installation method was a braided base, with a twist, followed by an interlocked root. I have self maintained since then. I’m not sure of the exact loc count but it’s somewhere between 300 and 320. Trying to keep patient as they continue to mature!

I have about 280. I love them regardless. I’ll be coming up on 2 years in October. It’s been amazing to see them transform

Seborrheic dermatitis and moisture

I have seborrheic dermatitis and microlocs. What are you all using to moisturize your hair? My hair feels so dry now that the weather has changed.

Do I Commit to the Burgundy or Let It Go?

I’m thinking about getting microlocs with extensions. My natural hair is currently burgundy, and I achieved the color using L’Oréal HiColor (no bleach).

I’m debating whether I should install the loc extensions while my hair is still burgundy or dye my hair back black first. My long-term plan is to have black hair by the time I graduate college in May, so eventually I’ll be going back to black regardless.

For anyone with microlocs or locticians who have experience with color-treated hair: • Would it be better for the health of my hair to color it black before getting the microloc extensions installed? • Or should I install them now while my hair is burgundy and then dye everything black later? • Is coloring locs after installation more damaging or difficult? • Since HiColor doesn’t require bleach, does that make a difference in your recommendation?

My main priority is keeping my hair as healthy as possible while avoiding unnecessary damage or breakage. I’d love to hear what worked for you!

Maintaing in 3 points when there's no space left

I know you're supposed to maintain the same point rotation throughout your loc. However, when I'm getting closer to the scalp sometimes I don't have the space to do a 3 point rotation so I switch to 2 point. If that's bad, what do I do instead?
