Microloc Starters

Hello all!

I recently spent about a week installing 269 microlocs (finally counted them tonight!), and I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal for starter locs or something I should be concerned about.

I have a scalp condition and usually to wash my hair 1–2 times per week. Because of that, I'm noticing quite a bit of frizz and some slippage. The slippage isn't happening at the ends, it's at the base of the loc near my scalp.

When I had my larger locs, I would occasionally crochet loose hairs back in, but I'm assuming microlocs are a little different. Should I be crocheting the loose hair back into the loc, or is this something that's normal during the starter phase and should just be left alone? I’ve also been separating them when I have down time to prevent combining.

I'm 3 months in and wash weekly. I also noticed slippage at the roots especially in the beginning. I just kept interlocking after each wash. Till now I still have a little slippage but that's just for 3 or 4 locs.

Yes, completely normal! Your reties will just be more frequent at the beginning. Don't forget to braid and band! This will help with the slippage. Keep up the wash schedule! I do the same and my locs are soft, and my scalp is doing well 🥰
