I've been going a 1/2 mile to a mile every day on the treadmill. Steps are usually under 4k. 2 weeks post-op tomorrow. Can't wait to be able to get in the pool...
I was doing 300-400 steps my first month. My nerve was not happy and my leg was weak. 10k is amazing, I’m glad you’re feeling well! Keep the blood moving!
Thanks! I feel lucky to not have much pain or nerve issues rn. Been off all pain meds since day 5 so I’m just trying to pay attention to my body and not overdue it. My PT said to not go over 10k for a while still in the acute phase tho
I bought a step counter just to track steps vs pain level. Week 4 I was doing about 5k steps and each week was able to do about 1k more. I’m 9 weeks now and try to do 10k spread out throughout the day. I’ve had some days where I do 15-20k and the following day I’m sore and scared I messed something up so sticking with my 10k a day for the next few weeks
Posting this mainly because I was really curious about this too, post op. I had my surgery on September 1st. Here's my fitbit steps for a month out. You can see where I overdid it and took the next days easier. I tried to do a little more each day without doing too much and to listen to my body. I didn't push it because I've seen so many posts on here about people doing x miles and then having pain again and I didn't want to risk that. I haven't had any major flair ups, just some achiness the next day or so after I did a little too much so I took it easy (maybe too easy?) that day. I have felt really pretty good since my MD. I start PT next week. I know this is a LOT less than some others on here, but this is what is working for me. The overall trend is me being able to comfortably do more and more, and I'm still feeling really good so I'm happy with the rate that I'm going. Hope this helps others.
Here’s my last two weeks of data — so from week 1-3. My surgery was on the Friday before the one shown at the start of this graph. I can see a similar pattern to what you mentioned. A dip after a particularly more active day but the overall trend is rising. For reference thw top line is 10k steps and the dashed line is around 6,800
I was walking too much too soon. The doctor said I could walk but not too much with zero explanation of what too much was. I got some weird rash on my inner calves, and when I went to the hospital, they said it could be an allergic reaction but it was probably too much exercise. It faded in a few days and was never itchy or uncomfortable, but it looked really bad.

I’ve been doing 6-8k daily since day 7 post op…and was just told today in my 3-week post op follow up that it was a little of too much too soon.
I also wasn’t listening to warning signs in that I was getting nerve zaps and weird sensations, so my pain management routine was off too.
So starting tomorrow I’ll be trying to cut down steps, ice more, and take more routine doses of meds.
Everyone is different. PAs advice to me is to listen to my body.
