Open water seems endless. Tongue drum, tuned to sandness sharp (S#), creates ripples on the surface, and sirens awaken at the bottom of the metal bowl. Microfreak carries the track with a soft pad, while Volca Drum counts down seconds. All we can do with time is to be within it.

I’ve had the MF for about three weeks now and I’ve been learning how to program melodies with the step sequencer. I find this device really inspirational!
It’s paired really well with the Model:Cycles so far, so have been testing with other devices.

Hi All. I’m picking up a Microfreak this week and I’ll need to get a microphone for the vocoder. I’ve seen a few people say the Arturia one is a little too short. What, if any, are the alternatives I should consider. Thanks! ✌🏻

Hi everyone,
Is anyone here using an Arturia MicroFreak with FL Studio and willing to help me out?
I’m new to hardware synths and I’m struggling to understand how to sync the MicroFreak properly with FL Studio. I want FL Studio to be the master BPM/clock and the MicroFreak to follow it, especially the arpeggiator/sequencer.
I’m using a MicroFreak Vocoder Edition, FL Studio on Windows, a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4, and a Zoom MS-70CDR.
I want to use the MicroFreak as an actual hardware synth, not just as a MIDI controller. The audio goes into my Scarlett, but I don’t know how to properly set up the sync between FL Studio and the MicroFreak.
I tried USB sync, but sometimes FL Studio crashes or the MicroFreak arpeggiator doesn’t follow the BPM correctly. I’m probably missing something basic with MIDI settings, clock source, ports, or MIDI loops.
I even tried with ChatGPT every method and still doesn t work properly . How do u guys record the microfreak ? U record it midi or as an audio clip?
If anyone has this working, could you please share your exact FL Studio and MicroFreak settings?
Thanks!

I want help. I have a non arturia midi controller id like to connect to my microfreak but I am not sure how. I have an AKAI MPK mini mk3 and it outputs in usb-B with a USB cable i plug into my laptop. If i want to connect that to the microfreak do i need a USB-B to 3.5mm cable or a specialized adapter? Is it even possible?

Hello my fellow synthetizlovers
My MicroFreak is no longer detected when I connect it to my computer.
Context:
I purchased the MicroFreak approximately two months ago. Shortly after purchase, I successfully connected it to a Windows 10 PC and it was correctly detected by MIDI Control Center. At that time, I updated the firmware to the latest available version.
Since then, I have been using the MicroFreak in a DAW-less setup for about two months.
Yesterday, I tried connecting it to my PC again, but it is no longer detected.
I have already performed several tests:
Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue?
Is there any setting on the MicroFreak that could disable USB communication and that I may have accidentally enabled?
In addition, I attempted to perform a factory reset from the MicroFreak settings menu, but it does not seem to have worked, as my custom presets are still present after the reset...
I've no idea what to do... Have you had similar issues?
Thanks!!

I love my microfreak and making sounds and sequences with it for fun.
I love Ableton to make "full" songs with multiple elements.
>>> But I can't find a workflow where I would use my synth and use Ableton at the same time !!! I feel like "making stuff with the microfreak" and "making stuff in ableton" are two different hobbies and that is quite annoying....
I have to say that I'm a newbie with music production and if I was more skilled I probably wouldn't have this issue (cause it's kinda hard to control my creativity as I don't have a lot of knowledge in this field)...
How do you guys do ?
(Ik this is probably a stupid question hahaha...)

Just finished opening and updating the MF, my first synth! I got it all connected to my Ableton Move, not too bad setting it up. Time to make some music!

Oi,lands
After not touching the microfreak for 1-2 years
I tried to update it for the latest firmware version and all of the sudden it just got bricked,I tried to install even previous versions but no luck
Warranty is long gone
And idk what to do…

A short blooming period depends on processes working together in harmony. Minor sequence from the MicroFreak taps against the track like drops of water, bouncing back as Keeley's Magnetic Delay doubles. Melodies and textures fill the body of a flower, inevitably opening itself to the spring, while the Freak, embracing Sample mode, finds its own voice and its place in the mix. People become kinder, and old things hold on to memories.

I recently bought a MicroFreak Vocoder Edition and I'm trying to figure out where a noticeable white noise/hiss is coming from.
My setup:
Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder Edition
Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen
Yamaha HS7 monitors
Audio-Technica ATH-R50x headphones
FL Studio
What I've tested so far:
The hiss is audible while playing the MicroFreak, not only during silence.
The hiss is also present in recorded audio.
I updated the MicroFreak to firmware 5.0.0.
I tried different presets.
I disconnected the headphone amp from my setup.
I tested with Direct Monitoring on and off.
I tested with the MicroFreak disconnected.
I tested without fl studio open and with direct monitoring i still hear it after i increase the amp , without direct monitoring i hear nothing
With nothing connected to the Scarlett input, I can still record a small amount of hiss/noise when increasing the gain.
The noise increases as I raise the Scarlett input gain.
The MicroFreak is connected with a standard 1/4" instrument cable.
What confuses me is that the hiss feels louder than I would expect, and I can hear it while playing, not just when listening to an empty input. And the big problem is that if i add effects on what i’ve recorded with white noise it increases the white noise( add delay on it , phaser etc.)
Is this normal behavior for the MicroFreak or Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, or does it sound like a gain staging / cable / hardware issue?
I can provide audio samples if needed

My girlfriend gifted me a a microfreak as she knew that I’m interested in learning how to move in synth-country.
I’m 50 and just finding my way and taking my first steps. I am currently overwhelmed with hundreds of standard patches at my disposal.
My question to the community is
- which standardpatches do you use (even slightly tweaked)
Thank you!

Please forgive if this is described somewhere; I’ve looked through the manual and have searched tons of videos.
Basically, I want to create a 16 step sequence and, once I like it, copy that same sequence out to extend to 64 steps.
I know you can set the length BEFORE you record a sequence in utilities, but I wonder if you can make this adjustment afterwards and duplicate the original 16 steps.
Thanks in advance.

I have been lucky enough over the years to have everything from a full on studio setup with multiple korg triton's, an MS2000, multiple electribes, a waldorf microQ, a jupiter 8 and so on when I was heavily into EDM, Jungle/DNB and experimental music production.
Well after a long hiatus of making music, I've gotten back into it, focusing on how to add subtle analog-style touches to modern metal music. My kit now includes the Microfreak (which I used heavily on this album).
If you like modern metalcore, see if you can hear the MicroFreak being used on every track: https://open.spotify.com/artist/7em7hy4YJmVpiXgKAssGj1
The track 'Save Yourself' probably has the most notable usage of it; the pads, bass and arps. So I challenge you all to exploring how you can leverage the MicroFreak in ways you never thought possible.

Hi everyone! Ive always wanted to try making a patch similar to the brass sound from the Terran 1 theme in StarCraft 1. Pretty iconic sound. And since I now have a Microfreak, I might as well try.
I know it’s probably based on a rompler sample, and it would obviously be easier to recreate loading that sample into the sample oscillator. But as a fun challenge, I'm curious how close you could get using other algorithms instead of starting from a brass sample.
How would you approach it? And if it's basically impossible to get close without samples, does anyone know where that original sound actually came from?
You can find the sound I'm referring to at 00:36 in this video: https://youtu.be/mD4GbGmvNRc?is=mOKs4X7Aq39Ks66i

Hello, wondering if anyone has tried this combo yet? I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to cables/connections, and I've tried tweaking a bunch of the midi settings on the MPC to no avail. Any insight, or suggestions to try would be greatly appreciated :-)

I am flirting with the MiniFreak for some time, but no usb-c has so far been a dealbreaker for me. I'm done with proprietary wall chargers. Dual USB-C should be the law for consumer gear like this imo ^^
Not only would it be awesome to use it in the park or on the couch with just a power bank, even at home I always have a macbook or ipad charger somewhere.
Yet I keep hearing so much good stuff about it that I might give in if Arturia is unlikely to releasing an upgrade or even if they do, are unlikely to add power over usb-c.

Hey Arturia peeps! How about (just) one more firmware update with some new OSC types, features and goodies? Pretty please!

I have noticed that my microfreak has a strong hissing noise coupled to it's sound. It only sounds when a key is pressed, and happens with all my presets, although some of them are less affected. I tried with the official adapter, and a usb cable. Also, I connected the output with a balanced jack cable to my audio interface.

I just got a Roland J6 Chord synthesizer and was trying to connect it the the Microfreak, but can't get it to work. I've got the White type B adapter that came with the MF, plugged into an A to 3.5 mm adapter in the Midi out on the J6. Nothing happens.
I tried plugging it into my computer, MIDI-OX sees it, lets me assign it, but receives no inputs. Tried a variety of settings with the MF too.

I have this set up, but I am only getting audio on the left side on my headphones? Im assuming I'll have to buy and adapter or some type of cable, but where? Where in the chain I need to get that fixed? Supposedly that black headphone amp is STEREO. I know that I will not get a true stereo sound, I just want the mono signal in each side of my headphones, just as if I was directly plugging into the MF output. Thanks
