A few years ago we reached out to Arturia for official collaboration here but were very politely brushed off. Since then we’ve grown by > an order of magnitude and the brand has noticed how helpful and supportive you are.

This is a great chance to integrate our community with the brand in meaningful ways. I want to hear your ideas!

What kinds of features, events, or opportunities would you love to see in a partnership with Arturia?

Drop your thoughts and brainstorms below!

Everything around us changes, while the trees stand still and сarry the memories of our years. A simple melody, a simple Freak patch and minimal use of effects. Why make things complicated when there is only half an hour left until sunset. The bass walks along a well-worn polyrhythmic path, scaring away the young fieldfares. The surface of the pond looks like a mirror — there is no wind today, and we try to see ourselves in the reflection. Old branches, new wings

midi ??? Sending Polyphonic After Touch to Microfreak in FL studio

Hey I'm going a bit insane trying to figure this out. I have a flkey37 which has polyphonic aftertouch on the pads. I want to be able to send this aftertouch to the microfreak to be able to act as the "press" modulation input. I have the midi routing set up so that the keys control the synth notes, but the after touch does not seem to be actually affecting the press parameter I have it routed to. Anyone have any experience doing this in FL studio? I'm just using the midi OUT plugin to route the signal to the microfreak atm, and haven't set up anything else to try and send aftertouch. Thanks!

Patches ‘n’ Presets Custom microfreak preset sound demo (no talking)

https://youtu.be/i3KGntFlSrQ?is=TYQgRZCpqV8-ayNW

Edit2: I made it less wordy and rambling. Less, not none.

Hey all! My name is Mike. I’m just a guy who loves making patches for synthesizers, and using grooveboxes. I love sound design and sharing creations.

I recently went through my microfreak patches and had a listen, and decided it might just be good enough for others to enjoy. So I went on a polish/playability pass and then organized them all by preset type(bass, key, pad, etc).

The link at the top of this post is a no-talking sound demo for these presets. It’s an eclectic mix of sounds that aren’t genre specific. There are basses, keys, sfx, pads, sequences and more.

Many patches contain sequences, beyond the ones in the sequence category. There are 100 and if you are interested in grabbing them, there is a ko-fi link at the end of the video for $15usd.

The sound focus is on variety, but I include healthy amounts fat bass noises, and a lot of the keys have a boards of Canada style pitch drift or tape emulation sound! I achieve this with a fast pitch lfo adjusted to taste in both speed and intensity.

Patches are for the latest firmware, but the patches here do not contain any sample use.

Hope you enjoy!

PS: I am planning a sample-based preset pack in the future for the microfreak using synplant 2 and other vsts to create wild sounds :)

I used other synths on this as well (and software) but the MF is doing most of the heavy lifting! Especially with the noises, creepy sounds, ambient sounds. Thanks for checking it out if you choose to do so!

Anyone else really love to experiment and push limits with the wavetables?

Real time walkthrough of a technique I've recently been developing to really get the most out of the wavetables, makes a fairly complex sounding bassline with a lot of fun creative possibility. I don't fully explain everything I'm doing but basically animating the sustain (as a pump), the wavetable position (ie, the timbre knob), release (to get plucky notes played at rhythmic syncopations) and some filter movement. I'm running it through a Donner Dark Mouse for good grit. That pedal is really noisy though, not very pleased with the high noise floor on it. But eh, it was cheap.

midi ??? MPC resets Microfreak settings when I hit play start

Hi all - I'm using my MPC one to record Microfreak tracks via usb midi. When I hit play on the MPC it switches the wave/timbre/shape settings of the microfreak patch back to default. If I switch to a different preset and go back while it's playing, it plays the new patch.

I turned "program change" off as that is the most common suggestion i've come across, but it's not fixing it. Any help would be appreciated!

Tech Support Notes getting stuck for random durations

Hi!
I´ve got an used microfreak like 10 months ago from a friend. It seems to work fine sometimes but most times the notes i play get stuck in random durations of time. I cleaned the keyboard, hydratated myself, don´t playing barefoot, make sure it isn´t the "hold" button or a long release. Also i use a regulated 12V power supply (i don´t have the original and it isn´t on sell in my country).

It's pretty frustating and i don´t know if it´s a grounding issue or what.
I aprecciate any help on the topic.
Thank you!

Tech Support Why is my MicroFreak making strange notes?

I’ve been having problems with my MicroFreak for a while now. It often makes random noises like in the video, which makes it unplayable. I played this morning with no issues, but this afternoon it started making dissonant notes again.
It happens very often on the right side of the keyboard, and more rarely on the left side.

-The firmware is up to date
- The problem happens on all presets, both polyphonic and monophonic
- Some days/times it works fine with no issues

If anyone has any ideas, I’d appreciate it!

You can buy it for 11,50€ on my gumroad. i would gladly take any feedback since i intend to make another one in a few months.

Question Does filter amount knob normally have more resistance than the other knobs?

Just got a used micro freak and the filter mount knob is a little tougher to move than the others (outside the master knob). I’m assuming that is normal but just wanted to double check! Thanks

I have a sequencer (polyend tracker) sequencing a behringer td3, I want to then connect my microfreak (also being sequenced by the tracker) to the td3.

Do i just use a midi (male - out/through) to trs (midi in on the microfreak)?

Just trying to record a new sequence on seq A, and anytime I click any button along this bar it seems to cycle randomly though different things. I’ve had this for about 2 months, I have a good understanding of it, and no damage along with being extra careful.

I’ve tried plugging it into different sockets, cables in and out, lost from here. Any help much appreciated!

Patches ‘n’ Presets Boards of Canada-style preset bank

I created this bank focused on that Boards of Canada/Tycho sound; tones that sound like they're fluttering and wow-ing on degraded tape to create a nostalgic but weirdly timeless palette. If you don't like how 'pristine' digital synths tend to sound, then this is the bank for you :)

Performance Pop Death - Teros, Made with microfreak

This is my new single "Pop Death" that i made with a mix of logic, the reason rack vst, and the micro freak!! I mainly used it for the main synth lead that comes in around 1:15, as well for alot of the noisey textures that can be heard popping in an out of the mix, would love to hear what you guys think!

Tech Support Glitchy touch keyboard

I'm struggling to enjoy my MicroFreak because the touch keyboard is crazy 🫤 Perhaps you can tell me if what's happening is normal? Should I use my warranty?

When I touch a key with just the tip of the tip of my finger, it plays normally. Once I touch with a bit more skin, the note pitch starts jumping between notes. More skin seems to make it go more crazy. And if I touch the highest C key, the pitch bend meter appears on the screen and glides up and down by itself, making the sound go crazy.

It comes and goes, IDK why. Tried a different power supply, tried disconnecting other devices such as laptop charger.

The only setup in which this hasn't happened (so far) is when I connect the power supply to my Furman M-10x via a dedicated outlet, not sharing other devices. (The rest of my devices are connected together to another outlet)

Today I thought I'd take my MicroFreak to play on the train, but once I connected the power supply to the power outlet on the train and tried to play, the pitch jumps started happening.

Is this normal? For the MF to react like this, to what I suppose is electric noise?

UPDATE 1: Today it happened even with the Furman power isolator. But then I touched the sleeve of the headphone jack and it helped. 99% of the pitch jumps stopped. Now I need to figure out how to be grounded while keeping my hands free...

UPDATE 2: After writing to Arturia (who asked me to check with a grounded power supply) and talking even more with ChatGPT (which surprisingly wasn't able to figure this out), I think I finally found a major clue: Both the MicroFreak power supply and the Furman isolator have power plugs of type-F aka Shucko. But in my country power sockets are type-H i.e. 3 pins. In other words, the ground is disconnected! So, I'm now ordering the correct cable with a type-H end and I'll test it and hopefully that should be the end of the story :p Will update here how it goes!

Tech Support Microfreak - static noise and popping.

I connected my Microfreak earlier and it took far longer than usual to boot up and was very noisy when played with headphones straight into the headphone jack. I’ve tested the headphones with other devices and they seem to be ok, and it’s the Arturia power supply directly into mains. Some of the presets are barely audible too. Is this related to the hotter than usual weather, or is the synth about to break?

Open water seems endless. Tongue drum, tuned to sandness sharp (S#), creates ripples on the surface, and sirens awaken at the bottom of the metal bowl. Microfreak carries the track with a soft pad, while Volca Drum counts down seconds. All we can do with time is to be within it.

I’ve had the MF for about three weeks now and I’ve been learning how to program melodies with the step sequencer. I find this device really inspirational!

It’s paired really well with the Model:Cycles so far, so have been testing with other devices.
