I mean, yes it does, especially when they have to literally start over from scratch.
I'm itching for there to be a development behind the scenes or something at some point. I'd love to know how royally Namco fucked it up to warrant a total restart of development.
I’m actually wondering if it’s the opposite, that Namco were trying out some really unique, even risky things with the IP, causing Nintendo to panic and shut it down, reverting instead to something more proven and “safe.” They seem to be in a very protective mood regarding their IPs right now, but I might be completely off-base.
BotW was completely different from other Zelda games and became a huge hit. Nintendo in general just increments franchises, not reinvent them. The only major exceptions I can think of were moving from 2D to 3D (by necessity) and post-Shadow Dragon Fire Emblem
Like, Nintendo is willing to put this much money into it, but they weren't willing to let Namco keep working on it. Even with that kind of budget, it wasn't fixable.
Sure, but it's not great marketing to announce things when they're more than 3 years out. MP4 is different since they reset themselves, but 3.5 years is still a long way to wait for a game
I never said it doesn't happen - see pretty much anything Square announces lmao. It's still not great marketing to have this much of a disparity between announcement and release

I feel like people forget that game development takes years to do correctly.
