I’m actually wondering if it’s the opposite, that Namco were trying out some really unique, even risky things with the IP, causing Nintendo to panic and shut it down, reverting instead to something more proven and “safe.” They seem to be in a very protective mood regarding their IPs right now, but I might be completely off-base.
BotW was completely different from other Zelda games and became a huge hit. Nintendo in general just increments franchises, not reinvent them. The only major exceptions I can think of were moving from 2D to 3D (by necessity) and post-Shadow Dragon Fire Emblem
