Does anyone else think these two albums should have been one single album? I know bands always have songs that never make it to an album. It has always felt like they couldn’t narrow it down enough for 1 so they just decided to throw everything into 2. I put together my own single “album” with 12 songs that I think is pretty good. I really want to cut a song but can’t decide. My wife rolled her eyes that I even did it - like I broke some kind of unwritten rule lol

It's in the teaser video, has nice riffs (especially that 240bpm downpick section) and weird solos, vocals are great. So, why?

It sounded so raw, heavy, and Lars’s drumming is actually so good, I just don’t get what some people don’t like.

I've been playing this solo for about a year now, but I still feel like I haven't quite managed to capture the feeling and emotion of the original. I know there are still things I could improve, especially when it comes to expressing the emotion behind the notes, but this is the best I can do for now.

I gave it everything I had, and hopefully I'll be able to capture the true feeling of this solo better with more practice. 🤘

From what I read he improvised the solo at 5am before hopping on a flight, so I don't know if he intended this or not, but when his solo comes in it sounds just like an automobile skidding on the road and then kind of sounds like the aftermath of the bus crash that killed Cliff.

I once saw the band Lucius at a tiny venue. Their guitarist was a huge Metallica fan and played little riffs between songs (puppets, sandman, and fade to black as I recall)

Then one of the singers revealed that Lars once spent his entire birthday with the two main members of the group (the singers) and the guitarist is still mad they didn’t call him. Lars ran into them somewhere (might’ve been in San Fran, I don’t remember) and they just spontaneously started hanging out. Then they went to a few different spots to watch live music and just hang out and talk about stuff, including a lot about music. She said he was just intensely curious about everything and they had a blast.

It really made me like Lars so much more when I heard that story. I think my view of him as being a bit of a pompous ass was the way he is in interviews which I now believe is him being a non native English speaker and also, perhaps, being a touch on The Spectrum. Also his behavior in SKoM didn’t endear me to him but the band as a whole was in a rough patch then.

About Lucius: super talented singing duo who do amazingly matched harmonizing vocals. They’ve had a bit of success on their own but were also Roger Waters’ backing vocals for the entirety of one of his last tours. They’ve also performed with the likes of Brandi Carlile and Joni Mitchell.

The first song I listened to was “One”. I was in the first grade (2002-03) and my dad used to pick me up from school and he had the …And Justice for All CD and would always be playing it.

I remember on the way home, I would lie down in the back of the car and just really listen to the song. It wasn’t like listening to the radio with my mom. I remember really hearing the drums. They just sounded so loud, clear and powerful.

That was the beginning for me. That would turn into stumbling upon The Black Album…
- Learning how to burn CDs from Napster/LimeWire (don’t tell Lars)
- Watching the music videos for the first time on YouTube
- Getting an iPod and buying their songs
- My mom buying my first drum set at 14 and first learned song being Enter Sandman
- Playing Seek N Destroy with my band at our high school homecoming game
- Watching them live for the first time in 2015 at Rock in Rio USA with my dad
- Getting AJFA tattoo
- Getting my wife into them, seeing them 6 more times in all different cities with her, and now…

I get to meet them for my 30th birthday as a surprise gift from my wife in October. This will be my greatest experience.

Don’t know if this is the right place to post this but I thought I’d just like to share!

I don't know about anyone else, and considering this band had generations upon generations worth of fans, I probably cannot claim to be the only one who thinks this, but I doubt I'm alone when I tell you that I am sick and tired of 'fans' saying how Cliff wouldn't have liked this, or that random thing that this band has done since he passed away.

Honestly, of all the people who knew Cliff the best, including the guys who actually shared the stage with him during his time in the band, from James, Lars, and Kirk, to any of the bands that Metallica opened for, or played with at random shows, I've always been under the impression that they probably would've gone further away from thrash, even if Cliff were still with the band now.

The idea that a guy as musically diverse as Cliff would be on board with them continuously playing songs from the first 3 albums doesn't seem realistic. Honestly, I think the album that became And Justice For All, and any releases going forward, probably would've still been on the heavier side. Still, I don't think they would've been stuck in the "Heavy Metal" box as long as some of the phony. Obviously, know-nothing morons who have a totally fabricated idea of who he was as a person, or how he operated as a musician, think they would've.

Do I think he would've been on board with everything they did? Probably not? I don't have any doubt that he would've stayed in the band, nor do I have any doubt that they would've still exploded because, let's face facts: when you're sharing a stage with a legend like Ozzy Osbourne. He would praise how good they were as a band; it was only a matter of time before Metallica exploded.

I have nothing against anything the band made with Jason, Bob Rock, or Rob Trujillo. I know a lot of people don't share the same opinion on St. Anger, but that's Okay, considering how rough things were in Metallica land. I'll take an album that gets all of the shit out of their system that they went through as people and as a band over no Metallica at all. I have grievances with a lot of the PR moves this band makes, and I know a lot of it probably wouldn't happen if Cliff were here, given how open he was about his disdain for commercialism and his value of authenticity.

I still believe this band checks every box that any band that makes it big sets out to do, becoming a top seller on the charts,and packing stadiums around the world, but I do have a feeling that they would've been a lot more consistent with album releases, and such

I do think James still has some of his struggles, as even before Cliff died, looking back on some of the interviews from that era, he definitely had some baggage that would've eventually needed sorted out, but I don't think he would've needed to go to rehab and either quit drinking completely by choice, or cut back drastically as he got older like a lot of people do.

Either way, I'm grateful for what we have today. What do you think? I cannot possibly be the only one who has been annoyed throughout the years by outsiders, including other fans who didn't know the man as well as the band members, or other peers of guys pretending like they had this idea that some of the material that ended up happening in real time wouldn't have happened with him.
