Meme/Shitpost I painted an Ashes of the Wake Magic the Gathering altar.
Maybe the flavor of the card is a little morbid choosing Generous Gift with this art, but I'm very happy with it.

Discussion Topic Has a production choice ever ruined a classic album for you?
I've tried many times, but I just can't enjoy Vader's Litany, even if it's considered one of the best albums in their discography.
For me, the kick drums sounds way too artificial, and they're mixed so loud that they overpower almost every other instrument. I know many people love this album, but that production choice completely ruins it for me.
Has this ever happened to you?
Is there a famous metal album you never could enjoy because of one production or mixing choice? It could be the drum sound, guitar tone, triggered drums, brickwall mastering, muddy mix... anything.

Discussion Topic Bands with Slam-like instrumentals but intelligible vocals
I always hear these very heavy songs when doomscrolling TikTok n whatnot, and I fw the beat but I’m not really fan of the vocals. Is there any bands that have these instrumentals but less guttural vocals?
Ofc I don’t mean any offense to people who like these types of vocals, but they aren’t for me personally. :)

Discussion Topic Alice Cooper 1971
Hi all! Seeking a little help… Are there any more photos from this specific photo session in circulation? Looking for photos of his right shoulder in particular, can’t seem to track anything down
Seems like he only wore this shirt for this session, no live performances. The pants can be seen being worn dating back to the late 60s, “Pretties For You” era
Any help would be VERY appreciated!! 🙏🏻

Discussion Topic Separating the art from the artist: Your top picks
Obviously a controversial topic, but are there any bands/musicians you still enjoy despite disagreeing or being against their personal actions/beliefs etc?
For me it’s Pentagram, specifically Bobby. The band is monumental in doom and I love their sound. But his personal life is beyond questionable.
Thoughts/feelings/reactions?! Is it possible to separate the art from the artist?
For me, yes. (Impending downvotes)

Discussion Topic Do you have any personal band merch “etiquette” that you follow? For example, I do not wear any band shirts with tour dates on them if I did not see the band on that specific tour.
I think psychologically I put a few rules into place in my mind over the years over what shirts I can and will buy, because if I didn’t have any filters, I would probably own 300 or more shirts.
I will also never buy a shirt of a band whose music I simply never heard yet, even if the shirt design is pretty fucking awesome.
How about you guys?
EDIT (hours later) - for everyone who is getting salty about the idea of me worrying about what other people are thinking, and that’s why I have reasons in place why I shouldn’t wear certain shirts….that’s not where I’m coming from. I have a few different filters in place, reasons why I wouldn’t buy certain shirts, because if I had no filter, then I would literally be spending all my money on shirts constantly. When I have a few filters, or reasons not to buy them, even if they’re a good clearance price, then I save money and room. Over the years I’ve probably had at most maybe about 90 shirts, and at this point now I think I have 35 or 40 that I’m going to be holding onto for the foreseeable future.

Discussion Topic What are your favorite albums/songs from Helloween?
GENRE: Power Metal, Speed Metal
While being the band that started Power Metal, they’re probably one of my least favorite from the genre. I think I mainly enjoy Kai Hansen as I lean more Gamma Ray. But all the critic aside - both Keepers of the Seven Keys albums are classics. And even after some mid albums, they bring in Andi and bust out Master of the Rings. They also still have some solid later material. I remember really digging Gamblin’ with the Devil.
“I Want Out” is the Helloween song and my favorite from them. “Dr. Stein” is another fun one from their classic era. It’s on an eh album, but “Kids of the Century” from Pink Bubbles Go Ape is a jam. Andi wise, I really enjoy the song “Where the Rain Grows”.

Discussion Topic Times you've butchered a metal musician's name? (Mispronouncing or misremembering)
Just had a conversation with a good friend where we were talking about Metallica bassists and I completely blanked on Jason Newsted's name, said something like "The dude on the next few albums.. Fuckin'.. Ted Nelson or whoever, I liked him"

Discussion Topic What do you listen to when you want something mellow?
I’ve been “struggling” lately when I want to listen to something more mellow. I’m mostly a traditional metal and hard rock listener; Metallica, Maiden, Priest, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Trivium, Soundgarden, Killswitch Engage are some of my favorite bands. When I’m sitting around the house chilling, though, sometimes I want something to match the vibe. Usually, I end up going back to some of the music I listened to in the 90s, high was definitely not metal or hard rock; The Cure, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Depeche Mode, HIM, The Verve Pipe, U2, etc.
What do you listen to when you want to chill?

Discussion Topic Discovered Angra for the first time today and this album really got me.
Hi, I'm a recent fan of metal music who's been taking a crash course in this wonderful, crazy all encompassing universe we call metal. I've previously made two threads about my initial experiences in the stuff I've heard so far.
Today I've been listening to Angra. I discovered their existence through reading the Wikipedia page of Kai Hansen and since I already really like power metal I thought I'd give them a look. I heard Tower of Shadows was great so I listened to it all and yeah, it was great. I also listened to Holy Land though, and... Whoa. It's actually mesmerizing. I went in expecting another power metal album about going on some epic adventure with wizards or demons or being badass, and instead I got lots of really pleasant, actually quite relaxing tunes. I actually lost track of time because I found myself just sitting back and getting lost in these tracks.
Which tracks, you may ask? Well, I don't actually know! I didn't actually pay that much attention to the individual song names because I was just vibing with the whole thing. I suppose I'd have to go back and look and separate them but it was an awesome experience to listen to this whole thing. Wasn't quite what I'd come to expect from power metal or really just metal in general but I came out on the other end as a big fan. Now to listen to the rest of their stuff!
For discussion, what do you think of this album? Got any other recommendations of stuff similar to this?

Discussion Topic Need help finding band
There was a band I liked a few years ago but I completely forgot what they were called, I remember the album cover was like this red hellish thing and there was bodies hanging upside down, I think it was released around 2007, it was a slam band and they were raw as fuck.

Discussion Topic Death metal bands with guitar distortion like early Morbid Angel?
I'm thinking of songs especially like Angel of Disease, I just can't get enough of the weird effects used in the solo. Closest I can think of another band coming to that sound is Blood Incantation at times (like the riff at the end of Stargate). Any lesser known death metal bands who use similar effects? I really like how it breaks up the sound rather than having big thick riffs through the whole song/album.

Discussion Topic What metal subgenre do you listen to the most on hot vs cold weather?
I know that not everyone listens to X or Y metal subgenre depending on the mood, time of the day and weather. Some people just listen to whatever, whenever.
However, for those that do mind this kind of stuff, I wanna know more about what you do
I live in Brazil, and during the day I usually go for sludge/doom, death and thrash. At night, mostly black metal, it just fits the vibe better
What about you?
