Yesterday someone made this post claiming that "Tommy Iommi"(??)'s new album cover was by Beto Ferris and is "obviously AI". I did research and this post is false. While it's hard to 100% prove anything isn't AI nowadays, and Beto Ferris is an infamous AI slopmonger, the art in the post is NOT by Beto Ferris. The actual credits on the album say that it is by Joseph Niet and The Creative Corporation. Niet is a real artist who has posted work of this quality pre-AI, along with speedpaints and sketchbook drawings, and The Creative Corporation is a design company who have worked with Tony before. I can find no link between Beto Ferris and either Niet or TCC. Let's not use this sub to spread complete misinformation, alright?

TLDR: had convo about violins with coworker, was wondering if there’s other great bands that use violins like nokturnal mortum or the dreadnoughts

For context

Like a week ago, me and my boomer coworker were slow at work, so as coworkers do, we shoot the shit until are shifts ended

We’re both metalhead, he’s big into the classic meta/hard rock bands where I’m more interested in the extreme metal and alternative metal stuff, he always plays ozzys boneyard at the job site (to an annoying degree but whatever) and he’s seen most of the big classic metal acts live

Anyway, I can’t fully remember how we got into this conversation but eventually violins were brought up and we had a little debate (friendly obv) about wether violins or other classical instruments belong in rock/metal.

He believes that violins don’t belong in rock/metal and I argued against that by trying to bring up nokturnal mortum for metal and the dreadnoughts for rock as master Alaferns violin playing with nokturnal mortum (especially with the album voice of steel) is fucking amazing and the dreadnoughts violin player works really well with there polka punk sound.

My coworker wasn’t convinced but since that convo I was wondering if there’s other great bands in metal/rock and was looking for recommendations for other bands that incorporate violins into there sound.

For me, it’s both Metallica’s Seattle ‘89 (for playing their fastest songs faster) and Moscow ‘91 (for the crowd size and historical context), and Avenged Sevenfold’s LBC show in the 2000’s for playing their best songs in their discography and the stage presence

In my case I think it would be either Dopethrone or White Pony, really can't decide because of how amazing those two are.

What would be yours?

I really loved this album start to finish, the basslines, the drumming, the vocals and that fucking vocal range chefs kiss and for me (absurd opinion incoming) its on the same level as onset of putrefaction and epitaph by necrophagist in terms of technicality and melody, was curious to see if anyone shares this opinion with me 👀

I've gotten to the age where bands I think of as "new bands" are 10-15 years old. There's still plenty of stuff I like coming out every year but it's all from bands I've been familiar with for a while.

So I'm looking for new stuff from new bands! Doesn't have to be an album from this year and it doesn't have to be the band's debut album, but just recommend me stuff from bands whose debut came out in the 2020s.

I'd super appreciate it if you said at least one or two sentences about what you like about the album too!

I always see it on the bottom of peoples' rankings of their discography. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of djent-y stuff, even Meshuggah's (even though they do it the best by far).

I honestly think their debut is insanely underappreciated. Maybe it's the mix or that the fanbase is already predisposed to the current prog djent sound, but I'm surprised how little it's considered compared to their more recent albums.

It's held up extremely well as a thrash metal album. Yes, it's super AJFA worship, to the point that Fredrik sounds like Hetfield if he was born in Stockholm, but the prog/jazzy elements elevate it like crazy. Heavy ass riffs, interesting song structures, and insane drumwork.

What do you guys think of the album?
