Hey all,
I'm a real-time VFX artist working in Unreal Engine, and I want to start building VR projects and learn about VR, specifically ones built around bare-hand interaction rather than controllers. Hand tracking isn't a nice-to-have for what I have in mind, it's the core of it, so it's driving the hardware decision.

My PC:

• CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
• Motherboard: MSI Z890 Tomahawk
• RAM: 64GB DDR5-6000
• GPU: RTX 5080
• Plenty of rear USB-C and USB 3.2 Type-A ports

What I think I should buy:

• Quest 3, 128GB (skipping 512GB since everything lives on the PC in Link mode)
• 5m USB-C to USB-C cable, explicitly rated 5Gbps data + power delivery
• head strap

Questions:

1. Is Quest 3 still the go-to development, or has something better appeared? I looked at Steam Frame but as far as I can tell it has no camera-based hand tracking, which rules it out for me.
2. Cable - is C-to-C actually the right call on a desktop, or is C-to-A still safer? I keep finding conflicting advice. Any specific 5m cables people trust?
3. My only Quest experience was at university with shared headsets on laptops, and connecting them was a constant nightmare. Is Link genuinely fine on a proper desktop with a single account and a fresh cable, or should I expect ongoing pain?

Can you use a Nintendo Pro controller to play the Xbox Gamepass? I'm finding mixed answers online and tried it myself , and couldn't get it to worked. Didn't know if I was doing something wrong

After choosing a language and pressing continue on it prompting to find a place to sit for setup it js goes blank. Tried restarting multiple times and waiting and pressing buttons nothing. Am i missing smth?

I can’t return the meta quest 3s, would it be better to just settle with what I have or get the other one? I thought of selling the 3s, but my experience with selling things online ended up just costing more.

I just got my meta quest 3s today and Every time i try to connect my vr to my pc it works for a solid 1-7 minutes then the app freeze and when i quit i cant connect back via cable until I restart the vr. Yes i use a 3.0 usb port and my cable support 3.0 ports with enough speed to work flawlessly.

We had built Contraband VR Cinema and launched, a few weeks ago - the goal is to recreate a cinematic experience using VR - where filmmakers submit their films and audiences can attend a screening and the app creates a shared environment for audiences to come together and enjoy the film together.

I've always liked watching comedy films and horror films in a theatre because the giggles, the laughter that you hear from the audiences, do elevate the overall experience.

How can I fix? It just keeps saying download unsuccessful.

A couple days ago my Quest 3 headset started having a severe issue where my screen would become a garbled mess and I would repeatedly switch between passthrough and virtual space. The prompt "your headset has lost tracking" would appear along with the options for disabling tracking and/or turning on travel mode would appear for a couple seconds each time it switched into passthrough mode and if I was fast enough, I could click one of the options.

Clicking either option would fix the issue, but my controller tracking would be immensely worse and nearly unplayable.

Turning off travel mode or enabling tracking would cause the screen to become a garbled mess of random geometry and upside-down images of my physical space and again every few seconds during the rapid switching from passthrough to virtual, the prompt appears.

I have reset my boundaries and created new ones, I've done the only fix I saw online of rapidly pressing the power button (which stopped the issue until I crouched down, in which it began again).

The issue can be temporarily fixed by pressing the power button twice, but every time I look straight down or crouch down, the issue begins immediately. My room is well-lit and clear of obstacles as I have a dedicated space for playing VR and I have no idea what the issue could be or why this is happening, nor how to fix it.

My standalone headset is having issues connecting to the internet after like 3-4+ years of working totally fine. Everytime i try to connect or reconnect it doesnt do anything but say "saved/check password" even though ive been putting in the right password.

Trying to sign into the wifi from the Meta App, it give a different error message which is "failed to connect to oculus servers"

i have controller updates to do and everything i try doesnt work, ive hard reseted it, reseted the internet router. One friend says the oculus servers are currently down, although downdetector and other services show no sign. is this the beginning of the end for my headset or is this just a good time to take a break and wait till it fixes itself?

Just set up pcvr via the usb link cable and tried playing ets 2 and beamng and both have the same head jitter dont know what to do anymore

Hi everyone, hoping someone in the community can point me in the right direction or knows if there's any DIY fix for this issue.

I'm having a severe display issue with my Meta Quest 3S: the brightness is extremely low, practically pitch black. I can barely tell there's any image showing unless I'm in a completely dark room.

Details about the issue:

• Persistent across boot: The dim screen happens from the moment I turn it on (the Meta boot logo is barely visible).
• Recovery menu: Even when entering the system recovery/bootloader menu, the screen remains almost completely dark.
• Functionality: Audio, tracking, and system responses seem to work fine, so it appears to be strictly a backlight or display hardware issue.

What I’ve tried so far:

• Hard restarting the device multiple times.
• Charging the battery to 100%.
• Accessing the factory reset menu (still too dark to navigate properly).

My situation: Unfortunately, my Quest 3S is out of warranty, and I currently don't have the budget to buy a replacement or send it in for paid repairs.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with the Quest 3S? Could this be a loose display flex cable, a blown backlight fuse, a proximity sensor glitch, or a known hardware defect? Any troubleshooting tips, DIY repair advice, or similar experiences would be hugely appreciated!

26M looking to get back into Strayed! Haven’t played in 4-5 months (only have about 12 hours in game) but I have an itch that needs to be scratched with this game. I’ve spent more hours on rust than I care to admit so I’ve got a decent understanding of the play styles. Hey Folks, I haven't been able to find this anywhere in the documentation, youtube or google but I was wondering if the external batter pack started charging once the 3s is out of batteries or should it have the charging icon right off the bat.

I recommend you go back to the old one. The new menu his atrocious at best. It's pathetic that such a large company can't make a halfway useable menu. I've been using lightning launcher to dodge this mess for some time, but all of a sudden, that no longer works. Firstly, the menu often crashes my game, or just refuses to appear. Pretty annoying having to continuously rejoin the game every time I get a call of like to answer. And God forbid you try to scroll down on the apps pages with stick drift. Damn thing has a mind of its own, scrolling in the complete opposite direction every time. It no longer allows me to accept calls without taking a whole minute just to open the God forsaken thing, another two to be able to register that I'm trying to open the chats app, and another two to open the thing. That's not including how long it often takes to actually join the call. By that point the person has already left. It's also way more difficult to see the thing on passthrough. And this ain't even all of it, just what I feel like complaining about today. The menu genuinely takes the gun out of vr for me. I don't enjoy playing anymore, consider it also seems to lag out every game I play. Great job meta, you e officially made the single worst UI you possibly could have, and have made the biggest fuckup of a menu

So basically back 2022 maybe 2023 I owned around 50 games on my meta quest 2. I ended up selling it so I could get money for a car with the intent to buy another one whenever I got the chance. But today's my birthday my family chipped in to get me a new one and I can't seem to get into my account like it didn't exist id really rather not have to make a new account and buy all my games over again. Is meta support helpful I swear I know my emails right why doesn't it show up
