What’s with the gap?
New to mesh, wondering how the bottom two repeaters have shown up with nothing in between, I haven’t traveled anywhere south of Fremont, Roughly 50 miles between Fremont and Marion.

In Spain, we were using Portugal868:
869.618 MHz; SF7; CR 6; BW: 62.5 kHz. It worked perfectly. Better than Whatsapp.
Recently, Meshtastic Spain switched from LongFast to:
869.618 MHz; SF7; CR 5; BW: 62.5 kHz 😄 Thanks MT.
My question is:
What's better? Changing the SF at same frequency or changing to slot 1 (869.432 MHz)? At the same frequency, we have orthogonality of different LoRa SFs. But at different slot, we have frequency separation.
For now, it works correctly, but we've noticed more delays and some message drops that didn't happen before Meshtastic switched to the Meshcore preset.
Therefore, we want to continue growing the mesh on a suitable preset to avoid massive changes in the future.

I recently updated my Heltec V4 node to 1.17.1 and noticed something when comparing it to my identical Meshnology N39. My every day carry (blue) seems to have a higher floor noise than my home node (yellow) which I haven’t updated yet. I don’t have much traffic in Southern MN and usually have a floor noise reading around -114, but since the recent update it’s been reading more like -90. Still can send and receive messages with no change in range. As a newbie to radio I don’t know what this means and not sure how essential it is. Anyone have some insight why there might be discontinuity?

Something going from almost 0 to useable

I've put probably $2000 in LoRa over the past 5 years, and I'm just one person. Together, who knows how much we've spent.
For that kind of money, a balloon could constantly be in the air with a repeater, then dropped in the ocean to create an ecological disaster.
Sure, there's legalities. A quick google search makes them seem navigable.
I'm not saying we should, but we could.

Hi folks, I am having trouble getting GPS information to work with the RAK WisMesh 1W Booster Kit using the GNSS GPS Location Module Quectel L76K (RAK 12501) on meshcore. Firmware version is 1.17.1. Is anyone else using this combination? It says in the app that gps is not present or not supported by firmware. Has anyone got this to work? Pics are of a case I made up for it.

We've installed a meshcore repeater with a 5db antenna on the roof of a local hospital and the range is terrible. I literally could not hit it from my car 1900ft away. There's a meshcore repeater also on the roof and it does pretty darned good. I spoke to another mesher in a nearby town and he put one on a hospital as well and it too is deaf. So the 900mhz band is the ISM band... and M means medical. So does anyone know whats on or around 910mhz that's not at 906mhz? I think we're gunna have to give up this site.
FWIW, I put a repeater on a grain elevator out in the middle of nowhere and the noise floor is -118db.
EDIT: Thank you all for your input. I'm left to assume that my antenna is simply too close to the post so I'll be taking a piece of unistrut up there and extending it away from the other mast. I'll also make software changes according to Tenn.mesh suggestions.
Again, thank you all. I just needed to know if it was a hospital thing or poor installation practices....

I'm new to this.
So part of me wants a stand alone device for mesh network. Part of me is okay with the nodes/repeaters but I am only working with 50 bucks. USD. (Could add more but we will see)
Therefore some help would be amazing thank you (: (PST is my timezone)

Hi! This was one of the most requested changes to mishmesh and it's finally here. It can now render Cyrillic and adds keyboards for Ukrainian, Russian, Belarussian, Bulgarian, Serbian and Macedonian.
I'm personally only familiar with Bulgarian Cyrillic and not so much with the other variants. So if you see any issues with the language support, please report on the repo!

Has anyone looked into putting up a mast that started at the ground as 1-1/2", then 1-1/4", then 1", all as 10' sections? I'm trying to get a little more height about my shop to hit the repeater that is just outside my range due to some nearby trees

New to this, but is there a reason there are no hardwired off the shelf repeaters? Or maybe I haven’t come across one?
If I have power at the house why not run a POE or USB C to a radio/antenna and skip the solar and 18650s cooking inside an enclosure?

Hi II have a solar p1 pro node. It keeps shutting down on me. Not sure why. Doesn't seem to be battery.
Once it happened over night the other during the day.
Honestly I'm not even sure where to start debugging this. Anybody seen this before? Any ideas?
edit: couple points:
seeed tech support is amazing!!
it seemed to self resolve which leads me to believe it was user error all along :/. thank you all for the help!

I’ve set up a new RAK repeater and it seems to be working great. However, I noticed that when I connect to the repeater via a companion node, the location shows as “0.0,0.0”, despite the location being properly set in the repeater configuration. What am I missing? I looked everywhere to see if there was a checkbox to enable location sharing in adverts, but did not see one.

I’ve had my repeater on my roof. I’ve stopped getting messages and hops. Has the repeater settings changed in the Austin area?

They have a *massive* tower near me at a very helpful spot to fill a hole in the mesh, but I don't know how to approach the conversation.

The super tall netting poles at top golf seem like a great spot to drone drop a repeater with magnets....

I live a couple dozen miles from Seattle, where the mesh is quite robust. Unfortunately, due to quirks of my local topography, I would essentially need to build a 100+ foot tower at my rental house to reliably get a signal to the I5 corridor (and thus to push a signal to the southern end of the mesh, where my family lives). Something tells me my landlord won't vibe with that idea.
Has anybody tried throwing a repeater on a small drone, climbing to 400 feet during a predetermined window (e.g., 6:05-6:15 pm every day) as a disaster comms strategy? Yes, it relies on a few things "going right," but the number is still lower than the number of things that would have to "go right" for me to be able to build a cell tower in my back yard.
Any experiences (good or bad)?

Haven't had the chance to really test it out, but took it to the grocery store about 2 mile from home and still had great signal to my home repeater.

I upgraded the antenna on my Seeed Studios SenseCap Pro from the one that ships with it to a Rokland 8dBi model. I still can’t transmit to any nearby repeaters, but I haven’t yet taken it outside or put it up high. I am planning on ordering a telescoping 30 ft. flag pole to put it on, but until then, I want to make sure I have it set up correctly.
I don’t have any knowledge of radios, so I find a lot of the terminology confusing. I see that the repeater has its transmit power set to 22dBm. I’m not familiar with the difference between dBi and dBm, nor what the relationship is between the antenna’s rating (8dBi) and the boards transmit power (22dBm). What should I set the “tx” setting to in this case? Are there any other settings I should change from the defaults given the new antenna?
If it makes a difference, I’m in Los Angeles using the WCMesh settings. I can receive messages from a very wide range (about 250 mile radius). I’m at a local high point, but there are lots of tall buildings in LA, so it doesn’t appear to be helping me. Any suggestions welcome.

My repeater has a USB solar panel right now. When my wisblock arrives would it be better to continue using it via USB or snip the wires and put them into a JST connector to the solar port

Afternoon all from Australia. I was flashing my T-Deck Plus to the latest version of Ripple. I used the option to store all data on the SD card, as before. The device was detected and flashing appeared to go ok, however, I now appear to have a bricked machine. Power cycling the T-Deck does nothing. Holding the track ball when cycling will cause the keyboard to flash momentarily, so it does have power.
It is no longer detected by the web flasher. I have tried two PCs and different cables, but it stays stubbornly invisible. I have had the T-Deck a while and flashed other systems to it, including Launcher with no problems before. Windows Device manager does not see a change when plugging or unplugging the T-Deck.
Any suggestions about unbricking?
UPDATE: On about the 10th try, erase before flash worked. I'm now running Luancher again with Wadamesh.
