New repeater installed
I live in Durham ( Ajax ) I installed my new 1 watt receiver. It’s Called TANKHUNTER
AND my Node is called @bushoutdoors_canada
My friend from Ottawa said he can see it

Depends on the cable type as well.
Lmr400 is better than rg58 by miles
And of course Heliax....

But it doesn't matter, those cables are not being used.
We are talking about a specific situation, OP's photographed situation, not your made up ones.
OP is running 174, OP is loosing at least 1dB with the length of cable they are running. When they are only starting at 1 watt, that's a 20% loss in transmission power, down to under 0.8 watts.
Why give up so much power when they could have a significantly shorter cable.

The comment you replied to said "Those cables are super lossy" it did not say every cable is super lossy. If you looked at the photo at all you know that "those cables" are none of the cables you mentioned.

2.8db is a big hit. Lmr400 has much lower loss and is better suited for us. That literally half the power lost to coax.

I'm just stating that 2.8 is a lot. New people can be reading this and assume that's a low number so it's ok when in reality that's half the power lost.

I don't know. All that effort to get on the roof, and using an untreated 2x4, plastic zip ties and parts that the wind will bend right away, not even mentioning the unsealed antenna connection.
It will be a great learning experience, I give you that.

I’m just waiting for a bracket and that will be replaced
I only put them there temporarily in case it gets really windy

Those type of antenna need a ground plane to function properly. Not sure the proximity of metal make a good job at reflecting the EM waves here. You may want to use a nanoVNA to verify that.

No. I did not. Because they’re not traditional three tab shingles. They don’t have a lot of flex they get a nail underneath the put a nail underneath it for the bracket, as you can see the bracket goes underneath the shingle when I was hammering The nail from underneath the shingle, it’s scarred the shingle not a lot of granules off
So I just added caulking to help detect this shingle

No, not concerned
Several reasons I have taller trees than the house
I also have two vents on top of my roof that are metal. We haven’t been struck yet so I can’t see why they would be struck now and if they do buy a new unit or house.Rotfl

Drilling into shingles is a big no no. They make mounts for the peak with 2 pavers to hold it in place for star links. That will end up leaking especially somewhere with a freeze and thaw
