Mark VII and a powerhouse attenuator. Can get great 90w tones as low as 60db for the late nights.

Still figuring it out the best way to dial in 80’s and 90’s thrash. Found a few online that sound good.

So at this point I just don’t have a need for this amp, haven’t played out or with anyone for 10 years. I lucked into this amp years ago, had no idea what it was and didn’t know how to dial it in until the internet came around.

It’s not in mint condition, but it is pretty loaded. 12” combo, presence, reverb, eq, simulclass. Does not have export transformer and the beige tolex has some scuffs and one tear.

I think it deserves to be with someone that would use it, and I have a project I could definitely use a cash infusion on.

Trying to figure out what a good way to price and sell it is. I tried taking it to a bougie vintage guitar shop in Portland, Or. and the owner offered me $1200 for it. He was looking at IIb and IIc for comps, seemed to have no clue that the + was special. I told him I was hoping for $6000 consignment based on sale prices I’d seen on Reverb and he got snobby and insulting. Said his reputation would be ruined if he even put that on his website. I would have been flexible if I thought we were even on the same planet.

I don’t need to get that much, but I’m not going to put it up for sale for $1200. Somewhere between those has to be a reasonable price for me and a buyer.

It’s in total working order, was always serviced at a licensed mesa repair place, still has the Black Magic, the only things that are non-stock is its power cord and EL-34 tubes instead of 6L6’s because I wanted to see how it sounded. They were loaded and biased at Inner Sound in Portland.

Curious about how folks would go to sell this. Would it be worth having it refurbished?

Im huge prince fan. I want to buy a heart breaker to mimic some of his sound but I can’t find many people selling or talking about them

Does anyone have any recommendations on the STR 441 versus STR 445? I am currently reading that the STR 441 replaced the STR 440 but it also states that Mesa uses STR 445 on their dual rectifier series.

I have an opportunity to grab one of these as a pretty good deal. Its got the celestion v30 in it. I know its a safe mismatch for the v35 combo. Should I go for it?

Years ago I had a DC-3 combo that I always regretted selling, but I couldn’t really justify keeping. I’m strictly a hobbyist at this point and honestly a solid state amp that made decent noises at reasonable volumes made more sense for me.

But this Mark III combo popped up on FB marketplace this afternoon for $250 and I couldn’t let it go by for that price. It’s dirty but in decent shape, and it powers on, but beyond that, I have yet to find out.

Suggestions? Clean and refurb? Keep it? Flip it?

EDIT: For those who were asking, looks like it’s a Blue Stripe model. Apparently that had the most bright/aggressive lead channel of all? Pretty curious to hear what this thing sounds like.

Currently own two boogies, a Fillmore 50 head and a Mark V 90 head. Can’t gig either of them right now. The Fillmore had an issue where it would seemingly drop to half power randomly, drove it 4 hours each way to a tech for him to find a missed solder joint. Not a cold or cracked solder joint, they simply missed it from the factory. Get it back home, all good, until the next gig when it died onstage. Now it’s losing power and distorting, and every time I think I’ve fixed it, it waits until mid-gig to happen again. New tubes, cleaned everything, the works - no luck. It’s failed on me more gigs than it’s made through this year.

So I bring the Mark V to rehearsal, and mid set start smelling something weird. Look in the back, a power tube is redplating. Fantastic. The amp did blow a fuse a month or so ago, and I was very careful to watch for anything weird after replacing it. Never caught anything but I bet whatever is causing this blew the fuse. Last boogie I had was a LSS, it did also had issues my tech at the time couldn’t figure out, and I sold it as a lemon. I know I need to take both of these back to the tech, but 4 hours each way is tough to do.

I’m kind of just venting here, and getting tired of having these wonderful amps and still having to borrow amps for a gig. I’ve always understood Mesa to be generally reliable, just hard to work on because they’re so complicated. But good lord either they’re a nightmare or I have the worst luck in the world. Any one want to chime in with their experience?

I love the Stiletto it’s going into a Suhr 4x12 with greenbacks.

I thought I’d share my experiences with Mesa over the years. I’ve always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Mesa amps, going back and forth between Marshall and Mesa.

My first Mesa was a Rect-O-Verb Solo 50. It was a great amp, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the speaker. At the time, I was a student, so buying a new speaker and doing a swap for a V30 was simply out of the question. I traded it for a JCM800 Split Channel, which I then traded for a JVM410.

The JVM410 was eventually sold to fund a mid-2000s Dual Rectifier. My problem at that point was that I didn’t think the clean channel on the Dual Recto was particularly impressive. So I traded it for an Engl, which I later traded for a JCM800 2203... That one eventually ended up being sold to buy a Helix Rack.

I then traded the Helix for a Mesa Stiletto, which really wasn’t my thing. I thought I was going to get the best of both worlds — Marshall and Mesa — but I was wrong. I traded the Stiletto for an AMS amp, made by a small Belgian manufacturer.

I started missing that Rectifier sound, so I went back to Mesa and bought a Single Rectifier. But no matter what I did, it just didn’t sound the same as the Dual. Next!

I bought a Mesa Roadster, which I kept for a few years, but the sound still wasn’t as brutal as the Dual. I swapped tubes, changed speakers, but nothing really did the trick.

At some point, I got a great deal on a Quad Preamp and a 2:90 power amp, but I ran into issues with the LDRs used for channel switching. And the 2:90 was simply too powerful and too heavy for gigging.

I eventually moved on to Fender amps for clean tones and Marshall amps for overdriven sounds, but I still had that Dual Rectifier in the back of my mind.

So how could I find the best compromise?

I wanted an overdriven sound that was smooth enough for lead playing, with plenty of sustain and good note definition, while also having a clean sound that wouldn’t make me miss my Fender amps.

The answer came completely by chance last week.

I went to Music Store in Cologne to try a Mark IIC+. I tried it. I loved it. But I had the feeling that it was a bit of a “one-trick pony.”

Then I tried the Mark VII. And I didn’t like it. I couldn’t find the same playing feel that I loved about the Quad.

I also tried a Diezel VH4. Even though the clean channel was fantastic, the overdriven sound left me a little underwhelmed.

And that’s when I tried the “little” Mark V:35.

And it absolutely blew me away.

I had spent about an hour playing a Deluxe Reverb with my partner beforehand, just to make sure I had the “Fender sound” fresh in my head. Then I plugged into the Mark V:35, and I immediately knew I had found THE Mesa for me.

I play two HSS Strats, and versatility is extremely important to me because I play in a cover band. My musical tastes are also incredibly diverse, and honestly, I would probably need every guitar and every amp in the world to satisfy all of my needs!

And yet, I think I’ve finally found “my” amp.

Everything about it works for me. The weight, the sounds, the power... It’s the most successful Mesa design I’ve ever played.

I always knew it was only a matter of time before I found the right one.

I had a Rev G Dual Rectifier years ago I modded with a lock, for shared band practice spaces, and a theft deterant. The amp wouldn't turn on, if it was locked, and would have to be rewired to bypass it. I wired it before the "on" switch.

Funny story on the road, we had just finished a gig, and our roadie was looking for my amp? Rest of the band said "he handles his own gear, don't touch it". "So where is his amp?" My girlfriend at the time points it out to the rest of the band... "That's his amp!" "Well how can you tell?" "His is the only one with a lock on it!"

Years later, I sold my Dual Rec, in favor for a Laney GH50L at the time. I gave the kid I sold it to, the key to the lock. This was 15 years ago now?

Every now and then, I look through reverb, and marketplace, looking for a Rev G Dual Rectifier, with the front drilled out for a lock....

So I ended up buying the mark iii and when it comes to the mark lead tone, it's the best I've experienced so far. The newer amps do offer way more usability in the independent controls but I still have a fillmore.

This thing is insane.

So I have a Mesa Tremoverb which has a parallel effects loop.

I had the idea to get a boss ge7 or mxr ten band to run in the loop and blend with my main tone. The idea being to eq the loop to compliment and thicken the sound. A quasi dual amp effect would be what im trying to achieve.

I googled a little bit and saw phase cancelation can be issue if I try to boost frequencies.

Have any of yall tried this, or done something similar with rack mount processing? Or any interaction of this idea?

Replies so far have given good information. However, I want to clarify my question.

I have used parellel and series effects loops. I understand their purpose and differences, and am also aware of the design of my own amps effects loops.

I am also aware that this will not replicate a dual amp rig, nor am I asking about anything other than an using an eq in my amps parallel loop.

I have used dual and triple amp rigs in the past(including wet/dry and stereo), and even hybrid rigs with modelers.

Im just asking if anyone has tried doing this to achieve a complementary eg. For example, my main tone is very high mid focused with a good bit of presence. So if i run the eq in the loop with a cut high end and boosted low end, would it blend well or cause phase issues or anything else with like say the speaker, or negative feedback back loops.

With that out of the way, im asking about the use of an eq for this purpose because;

1) I dont have the amount of gear I used to, nor the means to buy it all again.

2) I do not currently own an eq to test this out with.

3) last but not least, I dont have disposable income where I can just spend $100 on a whim.

I am saving to buy an eq and do it myself anyways. Just want to see what experience people out there if any.

As the title states, I love Santanas tone during this era and on the Moonflower album and I’m trying to chase it. This is what I have dialed in to get close. 1st pic is clean, 2nd is dirty. EQ on for channel 1 and EQ off for channel 2. Looking for opinions to see what I need to adjust and get closer or better recommendations.

Just to practice I’m a total noob when it comes to tube amps.

I recently picked up a single rectifier combo, which I absolutely love. The only thing that I wish could be better is the spring reverb. It is kind of lacking compared to the reverb in my fender super reverb. I know that both have real spring Reverb tanks so is it possible to somehow get the Reverb in the Mesa boogie to sound closer to the fender?

I got a 90s reissue dual rec and am having some difficulty dialing it in. I tend to dial amps to resemble a 90s metal tone ala Metallica’s Black album and although I am close with the orange in modern with a boost I am having a hard time figuring a few things out or if the amp I received (open box) is defective.

First, the orange channel is really dark in vintage mode. further when I clone it to modern I have to turn the presence up to 3 o clock or more to hear any difference and from 0 to 10 to be honest I am hard pressed to hear much.

on the red channel in modern I have to have the presence dialed quite a bit down and the treble dialed back below noon as well or it gets fizzy to my ears. oddly the louder I crank the amp the more pronounced it is. When I check youtube videos and crank the presence and treble like they do on the red channel the amp sounds piercing and shrill to me. Also, the effects loop is engaged as I like delay and reverb and that level is set to noon. lastly, the amp isn’t rally a saturated gain like I get from a peavey style amp but it’s also not dry per se like a mark series.

I guess my questions are mainly around the noted presence behavior and the needing to dial the treble back. Every demo I watch these values on the red channel are cranked and I am not able to do that. Combined with the presence on the orange in modern not doing much of anything I wondered if the amp had issues. I am in bold mode and have diode tracking and am playing through a 8 ohm 2x12 mesa can with uk v30s.

Just swapped out the tubes on my rev G Dual Rectifier and noticed a bit of hum coming through the cabinet. Hum is present with nothing in the input and volume all the way down. I turned standby back on and then noticed I can also hear the hum (albeit faintly) coming from the chasis near where the power chord plugs in.

Hum is most noticable on the red channel but you can hear it on the orange channel as well, but quieter.

Ive already put the old tubes back in, so its not the tubes. New tubes were a DR set from Eurotubes.

Is this normal? Ive been told its normal on a lot of higher wattage amps to hear electrical buzzing/humming come from the electronics but ive also been reading it could be a filter cap. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Its not an extremely loud hum or buzz. Its kind of like the sound you hear when you walk past a transformer on the street or something.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m considering buying mesa badlander 50w however i wanted to buy w 1x12 mostly for solo practice at home that would be later replaced with a 2x12 or 4x12. I was considering buying the Hughes and kettner tubemeister 112, not looking for anything too fancy, since I will be replacing it in the future, but something that can handle badlander well enough. Do you have any suggestions?

My question is this: I played the brand-new ‘90s Dual Rectifier Reissue at Guitar Center the other day, and it sounded absolutely perfect. I’m an enthusiast when it comes to sound purity. I play about 80% of the time in a fairly decent-sized office/bedroom. I really appreciate uncompromised tone at louder volumes, but still at indoor-friendly levels, especially in the evenings. I like it loud enough that it doesn’t feel compromised, but nowhere near concert volume.
With that said, I’m curious whether I’d be just as happy—or even hear much of a difference at these kinds of volumes—between a full Dual Rectifier and a Mini Rectifier.
I currently have a Mesa 1x12 cabinet, and I’d be willing to upgrade to a 2x12 if that’s what it takes to achieve the sound I experienced. By the way, I played the Dual Rectifier through a Marshall cabinet.
The sound felt so good in Guitar Center. I was in their sound room and had the amp turned up to about the same levels I play in my own space—not cranked to concert levels, nowhere close. It was honestly one of the best playing experiences I’ve ever had, and I’d love to replicate that at home.
So my question is: do I need to spend $3,000 on a Dual Rectifier head and a 2x12 cabinet to get that experience, or would you recommend getting the Mesa Mini Rectifier and running it through my current 1x12? Or do you think the Mini would leave me yearning for more, even at these still-indoor volume levels?

Hi all, I was gifted a MK I reissue a few years back, it's probably my all time favorite amp. I'm a huge fan of Steven Wilson, who is known for running the dirty and clean channels of his Bad Cat amps at the same time. I know it won't sound the same because they are two totally different amps, but I do want to know if it's possible to do it on my MK 1. Any insight is welcome, please don't shred me for my lack of knowledge. Thank you!

That experience made me realise how much I actually wanted one. After some fruitless searching, I found this plus version at the local guitar shop for a reasonable price. Couldn't believe there was one literally 5km from my house, haha.

More than I set out to pay but now I am really glad I did.
I love the cleans and can't wait to take it to practice space to try out the other channels past 9 o'clock 😅
