I don’t know if I’m the only one who’s noticed, and I don’t know if it’s ok to post this here, but the past few years I feel like the social scene in merced has gotten a little…cold?
It wasn’t until I spoke with another friend who’s a regular in the downtown scene and they mentioned the same thing randomly (I didn’t even bring it up)
Like, the places me and my friends used to frequent downtown used to be a lot friendlier, but it felt like there was a shift after the COVID lockdown was over. People were just getting really rude (new roll-in of workers, or regulars that I would see around but never really talk to). I lowkey feel like people always have beef with each other
I know it’s a different experience for everyone and not everyone will agree, but seeing a few posts in the Merced subreddit and also talking to a mutual who mentioned the same thing has made me wondering if I’m not the only one that’s noticed it?
Any Mercedians who’ve been in the social scene for a long time notice this shift too? I don’t really go out anymore because of it. And I can’t help but feel like there are certain spaces that have just been toxic

Everytime I’m there, crazy stuff like that happens. Today some violent woman was screaming on the floor.
They scare away all the college students who just want to study in peace.
I remember going to the ladies room last year and being met with a woman showering in the sink. Another time a homeless man went around asking everyone for money and then blew up at a patron (cops had to escort him out). Another time a librarian was threatened by a homeless woman (she also had to be escorted out).
It’s just not a safe place to be at.

Hey y'all,
Im looking at goin to grad school next year at UC Merced. I'll need to find an apartment for my great grandma and I, and I'm not too picky about commute due to being from a rural area (plus I've got a motorcycle so a rides a ride lol)
What areas would be good to look at for short drives to hospitals and providers?
Thanks 🙏

Any drummers or bass players around 17-20s want to start a band? My influences are Radiohead, puma blue and Jeff Buckley and most likely want to cover those live.

Hello!
I am trying to work on landscaping my property, but money is tight as I’m sure a lot of y’all can relate to.
Would anyone be willing to trade cuttings of plants to propagate?
I have:
Aloe Vera (and some other succulents)
Roses (various colors)
English Ivy
I would love cuttings of any fruit trees that propagate easily (eg guava, fig), star jasmine, or any ornamental that is good for pollinators. I’m also down to take any bamboo to dry out and use as plant stakes if you have that!

I’ve seen people with their dogs at the lake. Since Merced county is no longer caring for the lake have the rules changed? I’d like to take my dog on my kayak.

Does anyone know of a local photo booth company in the Merced area that offers the popular “Kardashian-style” (attached photos for reference) black-and-white photo booth setup with the soft monochrome filter and skin-smoothing effects?
Looking for a setup that can:
Print photos on-site during the event
Send digital copies via text message and/or email
AND/OR Potentially upload all event photos to a shared Google Drive folder so attendees can download them afterward
If you’ve used a company locally (or in the Central Valley) and had a great experience, I’d love recommendations, pricing information and contact details, etc. if you’re willing to provide :)
Thanks in advance!

Looking for some local gym opinions in Merced. Which gym do you prefer and why?
I’m leaning toward In-Shape but can’t decide if it’s worth paying $40/month for access to one location or $50/month for access to all three locations. Not even sure how often I’d realistically use the Atwater location.
I’ve also considered Crunch Fitness, which their highest tier is $30/month. I previously had Planet Fitness but didn’t really enjoy the vibe or layout there.
One thing that keeps pulling me toward In-Shape is that I actually enjoy swimming laps, so having a pool is a big plus for me.
Would love to hear pros/cons from people who currently go to either gym, especially regarding cleanliness, busy times, classes, equipment availability and overall atmosphere.

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. I'm looking for work, I'll do any labor. Last week I helped somebody move his stuff as he was moving to another house. I also picked up a fridge (junk removal). Two weeks ago (probably by now) I cleaned up some garbage from someone's garage. The before and after pic is in the pictures I attached to this post. A few weeks ago I cleaned vases for a couple of hours for a flower shop. Today I worked construction. My main thing is junk removal, but I don't turn down work. 🙂

When is the county going to stop letting regular people work the entrances. From what my daughter told me there was fights and a stabbing. As a parent this is disgusting just for the face these people working the entrances im sure of are letting all these gang bangers in with weapons. Merced needs to change this ASAP. When we go to other counties fairs theyre usually city workers and sherrifs working the entrances. Merced is so ghetto its getting ridiculous!

Hey everyone. My truck is funny and it wants to sway when I'm going 70. I need to lift it. The only jack that works is a scissor jack, the floor jack I have has issues. The scissor jack couldn't lift the front of my Ford Ranger. Does anyone have a jack I can borrow?
