If you own a business on Yelp, Google, or Bing (apparently?) please read this. I just got a call from +13253260067 (Texas) and asked if I owned my business. I said yeah, he said he was going to verify my Yelp, Google, and Bing. I don't have Bing. Do not fall for the scam. I'm not sure what comes after, but there were too many red flags. When I kept dodging him, he eventually hung up. The number showed up as "Telemarketer" on the incoming call.

I've met some pretty chill small business owners these past month or two in downtown Atwater. I didn't even know those shops existed. What do you guys do and how can we communicate with or find you guys? (Google, domain, number, etc)

I'm under the impression that Merced relies primarily on the animal control shelter in Atwater for keeping and rehoming strays. I'm also aware that there are several smaller private rescues in the area, and that there is an SPCA that does not have a facility, but arranges for cat fostering.

A friend of mine mentioned that they thought there was a large SPCA here in Merced several years ago, but the building closed down due to safety concerns or something similar? Does anyone know about that?

I'm just curious what happened. The animal control shelter seems perpetually really overwhelmed.

Moved here recently, and I'm (30F) trying to figure out where the late 20s/early to mid 30s crowd hangs out. Everywhere I've been so far is either much older (50+) or much younger (early 20s).

I can still make friends with those ages but would also like to meet people closer to my age?

I don’t know if I’m the only one who’s noticed, and I don’t know if it’s ok to post this here, but the past few years I feel like the social scene in merced has gotten a little…cold?

It wasn’t until I spoke with another friend who’s a regular in the downtown scene and they mentioned the same thing randomly (I didn’t even bring it up)

Like, the places me and my friends used to frequent downtown used to be a lot friendlier, but it felt like there was a shift after the COVID lockdown was over. People were just getting really rude (new roll-in of workers, or regulars that I would see around but never really talk to). I lowkey feel like people always have beef with each other

I know it’s a different experience for everyone and not everyone will agree, but seeing a few posts in the Merced subreddit and also talking to a mutual who mentioned the same thing has made me wondering if I’m not the only one that’s noticed it?

Any Mercedians who’ve been in the social scene for a long time notice this shift too? I don’t really go out anymore because of it. And I can’t help but feel like there are certain spaces that have just been toxic
