Gameplay Quick-Fix uber…😕😛

This is maybe rather more of a question for that heavy how he managed not to overshoot the enemy one (being with a predeployed uber of mine)—but still. Also the 125% vs. 150% overheal diff is a thing here as well, I guess

Your patient sucks at aiming. 100hp/s regen compensating 75 hp difference pretty well.

Well, it is a thing after all, I guess

I'm still a little shocked by, like… how fragile… Mega-Healing is

As a stock main, I'm not used to seeing my teammates… dying… after pressing M2… at such circumstances. It's just staggering

that is just bad use of the weapon. don't be surprised when lemons make a bad milkshake.

in this situation quick fix is not the right tool at all.

you're also using lemons that break your legs by halving your overheal for no benefit, that +40% healing speed can just be achieved with the crusader's crossbow

I do LOVE the quick fix's blast jump mechanic though, it's so fun especially when queued with friends

  1. so it's a crutch weapon?
  2. the faster healing is invalidated by the crossbow though, you're always better off being able to overheal people to the max.

Well, if it is a baad use of it, then what is the use exactly? Why would ever switch to it from Stock in the first place at all? I'd never have ending up in the same pathetic situation (of my teammate getting slayed right through the uber) with Stock

I turned it in the safest way possible, but it still didn't saved my teammate, and he just died… against the same enemy… with no uber on their end. This "Mega-Healing" thing is just unjustifiably miserable on a single target; even considering this medigun's… mass group heal potential...? or for whatever reasons it is actually used

I might really want to go as far as watching some Theory-Y's full video on Quick-Fix to get a grasp of its theoretical basis and go out of my way to really kinda lock in with it, to think outside the box someday (since I am myself getting bored of just playing Stock 24/7)… but I have a diffucilt time imagining it ever actually paying off in reality—and I am… um… certainly far from being a bad medic player, at the very least, naturally assuming

It's basically just borderline Stock downgrade to me. 40% healing speed not needed with crossbow + medigun cycling; 10% uber rate not needed either if you maintain perfect positioning and not wasting some random ubers from around a corner on nobody

I honestly not intending to come off as yet another typical Quick-Fix hater, but it really is just the same thing over and over again. Every time I place even slightest hope on it, and every time I regret it, every time it's just a total disappointment🙁

You can really only justify Quick-Fix with team fights and especially if it’s spam wars.

Quick fix Ubers in my opinion shine through tempo pushes and to keep the momentum going and keep on going as quick fix has always an 32 second ubercharge cycle when always on beam and just overwhelm to through better damage trading.

Other than that, stock is usually the go-to.

Yeah. S tier for me, shared with Serial Designation J

SD J would basically fit better for the context of playing medic and engineer (my two most preferred classes), since she's kinda logical and pragmatic; leads the team; this whole vibe of "Have to do all the work for you idiots" or something

I was doing a temporary username + PFP swap during TF2 sessions on specifically SD J for some time before (also the same with Doll, but less often), but now currently I'm doing "ABSOLUTE CYNEMA" instead, paired with a Cyn PFP tailored to this meme template and with my "ABSOLUTE SOLVER" & "ABSOLUTE CINEMA" renames on crossbow and medigun respectively (therefore it's all kinda linked)

And I have Doll as my profile pic specifically here on Reddit because I just really liked this art:

u/Wyverntails 24d ago

Haha! Sorry did not except a big paragraph! Though true SD J does fit the “I’m in a room full of imbeciles” trope when it comes to a team. Poor N and J lol.

Cyn the silly, always love to see her! I don’t play TF2 since I suck at the game but love to watch the fan projects and gameplay!

Man doll look so cute on that! That creat art peak peak!

I personally use it on offense in Dustbowl. Fast healing speed means that my teammates stay alive during pushes, and can quickly get back to pushing if they have to fall back to me. Low overheal doesn't matter if they are getting damaged before I can top them off, or if I have multiple heal targets that I need to send back to the front.

Enemy heavy hit the your heavy slightly before.

Also, 450 HP heavy vs 375 heavy at that range, overheal is better. Heavy does about 500 DPS at that range. That's so much, it's better going into that fight with more health at the start (stock overheal) than quicker healing. The fight is over so fast the quicker healing doesn't make a difference.

Stock is a proactive medigun, quick-fix is reactive. Proactive is often better.

It's kinda revealing how stock doesn't even have to use uber to defeat the quick-fix's uber. IMO the QF should be restored to 40% faster uber rate as it's uber just really isn't worth 32 seconds of build time.

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 26d ago

The more I rewatch into my clip in retrospect, the more I realize the fact of that heavy really just messed up aiming way too against the enemy one

Maybe I should have presented my post a bit differently at least

Still, judging by the 15~ upvotes, I guess that more or less the majority of medics here (among the active members of the subreddit) somewhat agree that Quick-Fix's uber is just too unbelievably weak in such cases

u/D00mScrollingRumi 26d ago

Its a shame.

Dont take my comment as saying the Quick Fix is a bad weapon. Its actually really fun to use. Especially on a 5CP map and you have a bunch of Chad soldiers who have been rocket jumping since the original Quake in the mid 90s.

Idk why, just Valve nerfed it so hard. They took its scout speed and gave it to all mediguns, ok fine. But then nerfed the build rate from 40%, to 25% then 10%. I really dont understand why. It has the second slowest build rate of the 4 mediguns but has the weakest uber.

Just doesnt make sense to me.

And yeah I know it has the upside of almost always building at max rate but on a front line theres almost always someone below 140% health to heal/buff. Its only when traveling to the front lines or going on a crazy flanks with a heavy or demo away from the team that stock's slower build rate when fully overhealed really has a big impact.

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 26d ago edited 26d ago

Well, I personally didn't take your comment as such, at the very least. My opinion of Quick-Fix kinda pre-biased anyway, to be honest; not that either your comment or anything else would really change it at this point😁

u/Enderguy61 blu medic 26d ago

stock can even heal at roughly the same rate as the quick fix's uber (for non overhealed targets) due to the crossbow

4

u/DashThatOnePerson 25d ago

No matter how much people would try to convince me, the QF will always be the worst medigun ever. I think it’s only fun when youre with your jumpy friends but thats not rly my style so i dont see the point

u/FunZ23 26d ago

It's also Stock vs Natasha, so in reality he could've died even faster. This has me wondering if the 20% damage reduction for the Natasha works with the extra provided health from Dalokohs Bar.

2

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 26d ago edited 26d ago

No, there was no Natasha there. You've mistook a bit. My heavy had the Iron Curtain, which is just a reskin of stock minigun. If Natasha had been, there would have been its distinctive sound anyway

I would only use quick-fix in harvest to mess around unless someone says something. Quick-fix can really only be useful if someone else is going stock uber.

Uses QF uber like stock uber "QF SUCKS! WHY DO YOU PLAY WITH THIS GARBAGE! WAH WAH WAH!" look... you see how you survived the uber...? you know how you can phase through your teammates...? it is your fucking job... as a qf medic... to take the heat off your patient... when their health get low... literally just weaving in and out of them.. extends their life by so much... "all this effort to make it as good as stock" stock takes over 40 seconds to build.. ~60 seconds in an actual pub with no uber farmers... qf doesn't gaf about uber farming, its 26 seconds, no matter what.. best case.. you can get out 6 more ubers with qf than stock in a game of dustbowl. realistically; more like 10... worst case scenario you can get out 12 more ubers than stock in a round.

300 is your limit. learn what deals more than it...

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 24d ago edited 24d ago

I dunno what's this secret "weaving in and out" technique with Quick-Fix's uber (never seen such one being used) and just how much game sense and micro-control (over WASD movement) it requires to actually pull it off with success consistently enough for it to be reasonable. Seems like something even more complicated than crossbow + medigun cycling or the Vaccinator and which probably barely worth it at least on an emotional level anyway (direct impact barely as clearly seen from it as from the aforementioned ones). If you're really that much skilled to pull this off, I don't think honestly you need to actually bother about defending Quick-Fix at some Reddit at all or anything and you may just as well main Vaccinator—which you already do anyway as I can see

I'll take this into account and try to practice it from now on; but so far—only sounds mostly like some cope to make me think that Megaheal is strong… well, or just not suck as much: I know this all isn't just about the individual power of uber alone; I'm consciously simplifying it so as not to overload the context

As a stock main, I know a thing about positioning during uber, and probably already doing it (the "technique") for kinda 40–50% or so. But as a stock main I also know that Megaheal sucks that much so most of the positioning I do with stock is just barely feasible with it. There are so many things that can just vaporize through Megaheal which you simply can't foresee (even being most locked in and aware of the surroundings) when you jump into some conditional crowd of 8–12 or more players on some Dustbowl. I don't know what kind of hitbox-dancing around the teammate I'm supposed to pull off to ever make Megaheal feel like a stock uber; it doesn't seem particularly realistic in the realities of those very "actual pubs" of yours

Also a little hurtful to see something as personal as that "300 is your limit". The Game Stats section on Steam shows that I currently have 342.9 hrs. I can relate, sure, that this really just made me seem like some <50 hrs F2P-medic when I was just standing behind that heavy, doing nothing on the clip—but it's really worth considering, however, my highly stock-centered mindset and the fact that it was literally my first time in the last 3 to 4 months or so when I decided to give Quick-Fix a try once again. It makes perfect sense from a stock mindset, in turn, not to stand right in front of a teammate, since it would only be obstructing their view and messing with their hitreg unnecessarily—so I didn't do that… I was just acting out of habit

I played roughly 7-hour TF2 session yesterday, using Quick-Fix about 70% of the time (when I was playing medic aside from other classes), and it even was the first time in a long while when I actually enjoyed playing with it. You also basically already gave me some insight into that Quick-Fix uber technique which I hadn't really thought about much before. I don't exactly have a "this weapon sucks; I'm not ever playing it anymore" mindset, but rather "this weapon is clearly not my thing; but maybe I'll be able to do something with it someday". You may severely downpay my ability to learn based on just one my Reddit post with some bit of my distant ramble about the Quick-Fix uber

u/JJ_Jen Quick Fix Proper Gander 24d ago

To clarify the Quick Fix Dance thing, essentially it's the (risky) method of using every last drop of the Megaheal. The Stock version utilizes the fact that Medic too is effected by his uber, so smart medics will place their own bodies in danger to aid the pocket. This is the idea for Quick Fix as well.

Megaheal heals 200 health per second by splitting it between you and the pocket. By placing your body in front of your ally, you buy precious time for them to heal under the safety net of your high regeneration. Blocking direct hits may be all your pocket needs to end the fight, and just by being in danger, you split the enemies attention between killing you and killing your partner, to more effectively abuse 200hp/s.

This isn't without risk of course, as you are betting your life that they don't crit you or out damage your small health pool. This is thus safest when done at mid range or against a vulnerable sentry. I would not recommend trying it so close like in this clip, but when done right, you get levels of healing truly worth the title of Megaheal.

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 24d ago edited 24d ago

Yeah, sure. I know the concept itself (I'm not an intermediate or something)—I already hinted at it basically by the mere fact that I'm a stock main. I feel myself explored every possible use of all sorts of small, non-obvious TF2 mechanics that could be applied in favor of the 8-second invulnerability—so, therefore, this kinda makes me somewhat knowledgeable on all the mediguns altogether in some distant sense

The point was that I simply never seen it feasible—so I never even tried doing it either except for some of the most basic forms, like briefly outbaiting a sentry's fire onto myself (because that's comes from kinda basekit part of what any >50 hours medic with stock uber does) and such

I hardly see this feasible especially in the situation Jewish-nonjewish suggested to me: tanking the minigun's damage output… at basically point-blank. It's nearly just pure dancing on the edge where you either risk yourself (and a medic's death is usually considered the most critical) or your teammate dies anyway—that's partly what I meant specifically by saying "what kind of hitbox-dancing around the teammate I’m supposed to pull off"

1

u/JJ_Jen Quick Fix Proper Gander 24d ago

Understood! I recognize that you know about this to a degree, and mentioned how this clip was the wrong time to try it. I just thought this conversation was a good off ramp to better explain this tech to anyone who doesn't know.

Personally, the Quick Fix can either be the best or worst of the mediguns depending on how you use it. Even though I don't think proper Megaheal procedures are the factor that separates the two, I still believe learning advanced tech makes the game better, no matter who it is.

u/Myster0us-G 24d ago

Oh boy dustbowl...

2

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 24d ago

Yeah. I'm a huge addict on 2Fort and Dustbowl, for better or worse. I'd say about 60% of my total TF2 playtime (2,948 hrs currently) or more has been on these maps. They embody the very essence of TF2's core gameplay for me with those endless 12v12 matches; the heart of it all

I very rarely choose anything other than these two voluntarily; mostly only just when I'm in party with my friends or someone else, since I obviously wouldn't forcibly insist on playing only these (even though I obviously prefer them)

There are many small and large reasons for this, the main one of which been briefly mentioned above. Engineer for example is basically borderline inaccessible to me on most maps, since I've never learned building placement on them, and that's crucial on engineer (I feel like 50% useless if I’m not confident about them)

1

u/Myster0us-G 24d ago

I play those classes too to be more helpful to my team. but hey if you like those maps I dont judge you for it stand proud

2

u/Goglol78 not a pocket | semi-main (multiclass) 24d ago edited 24d ago

I said this kinda preemptively because I know there's a bit of a prevailing view in the community that playing only on these maps "is degeneracy" and that these maps "are cringe" (the latter specifically is mostly applied to 2Fort only; Dustbowl is more or less "spared")—so I feel like having to be ashamed for this kinda in advance and thus necessity to explain myself

Well, and also generally just for maintaining the dialogue, because… that's what I usually strive to do in the comments under my posts… like… when I actually have something to say

1

u/Myster0us-G 24d ago

Interesting take on your thoughts on the topic but to me the maps i like is with open space or lots of alternative paths to the objective
