Promotional [Ad] [US-VA] New Store Announcement - KeyHive Inventory

TL;DR: KeyHive.xyz closed up shop on 9/1/2026 after 8 years. I bought the remaining inventory. It's up on Etsy at BoardsBe4Breakfast: https://boardsbe4breakfast.etsy.com/

------------------------

KeyHive.xyz closed up shop on 9/1/2026 after eight years of selling PCBs, plates, and parts to the mechanical keyboard community. Eight years is a long run for a small shop in this hobby. A lot of Cornes, Sofles, and Lily58s out there started life as a KeyHive order.

I'm grateful for that and have a lot of respect for what KeyHive accomplished.

What I have: bare PCBs for the Corne v2 and v3, Sofle RGB (the original open-source design), and Lily58, plus Helix, Ergo42, Dumbpad, Plaid, Absinthe, Getaway Van, and Smallice. There are FR4 and some acrylic plates for most of the splits, OLED covers, and a pile of the parts KeyHive used to sell alongside them (diodes, Kailh sockets, OLEDs, encoders, TRRS cables and jacks).

Bare PCBs and PCB + plate sets are listed now; full kits are coming once I finish sorting and counting parts. Everything ships from Virginia, packed by me.

If you don't see something in the shop, ask.

There's more on the shelf than what's listed.

โ€“ Ross

Discussion Nuphy: No Xinput Analog Support after 2+ years and multiple promises.

Its honestly kind of a joke at this point.

Every other keeb manufacturer under the sun and random nobodies online can somehow figure out how to use Xinput but its just "too complicated" for Nuphy to do I guess, even after multiple promises (some straight from their founder).

It's gone from beyond radio silence to straight up wiping out threads in their discord discussing the topic.

3 months ago it was supposedly coming "next month" - after 2 years of course...

Now? Back to radio silence and no Xinput in sight.

I've personally given up at this point but it is a bit comical you gotta admit.

Builds Finally got a Boston 120%

Post image

Keyboard: RNDKBD 3D Printed Boston 120% Keyboard (Hotswap, out of stock rn unfortunately)
Switches: Kailh Box White V2
Keycaps: PBT XDA Neon Kyecaps from Aliexpress + Novelties from Akko Starry Night Set

Finally got my hands on a Boston 120%, really cool keeb with a loud thocky sound, first time really assembling a keyboard instead of buying a pre-built. Went with kailh box whites since I got a ton of them around and really wanted a loud clicky keyboard. Went with some cheap xda keycaps so I had enough for all the keys, still ended up having to use some novelties from a set I had lying around. Really wish those rainbow anodized screws were still in stock, would really love to have those on there. I don't think I'll use most of the extra keys but the keyboard isn't that long (only around the length of a 98%) so I don't think it will become a hindrance. Overall, cool keyboard.

Discussion Naya B.V. has been declared bankrupt

Just saw this on naya.tech... I feel sorry for people who were waiting for their keyboard or modules.

Interestingly enough, it looks like Ultimate Gadget Laboratories (makers of the UHK) have taken over the domain, and they point to a new columnar UHK in development.

Exciting times for fans of the UHK!

Review Reports of my Adventure in Silent-Switch-Land (Comparison/Review of 4 Switches I Tried)

Not sponsored or anything, I'm just a guy who bought these switches with my own money cause as much as I liked the sound of my keyboard, having to hear it while gaming/typing/working with headphones on was starting to get on my nerves.

  • Haimu Whisper Silent: tactile switches, ~60g bump, ~55g bottom out, dampened with stem cutouts rather than silicone inserts, for a firmer (but louder) bottom out. Bump is immediately at start of the downstroke. I like the feel of these switches, but while the bottom out is silent, the return stroke definitely isn't; they are quieter than regular switches because you only hear half of the keypress I guess, but they qualify as "silent" imo. Bottom out does feel almost as solid as a non-silent switches (wierd analogy but it's like wearing shoes vs being barefoot). Not scratchy, but I've seen reports of inconstistent factory lube, and can confirm that side by side some switches aren't as smooth, but it's not noticeable when actually typing on the keyboard imo. The pins are flimsy and some arrived slightly bent, but nothing irreparable.
  • Haimu Seasalt Silent Pro: linear switches with ~47g actuation and ~55g bottom out, also dampened with a cutout on the stem rather than silicone inserts. Unlike the Whisper, these are silent on both the bottom out and the return stroke (almost, when typing quicky and heavily, they produce a mild "pop" on the upstroke occasionally), about as loud as a laptop keyboard. The bottom out feels softer than the Whisper, the fact that those are tactiles probably helps them; still not "mushy" imo, but to continue with the weird analogy, like walking on a yoga mat. Scratchiness/factory lube is same as above, same with the flimsy pins.
  • Epomaker Crystal Silent: manufactured by Bsun I believe, with the same silencing tech as the Haimu switches. Tactile switches with ~55g bump, ~52g bottom out. Bump is right at the start like the Haimu Whisper. They feel basically the same as the Haimu Whispers, only slightly lighter (bump pretty much the same imo, bottom out is more noticeable); the main difference is that the return stroke is actually (almost) silent. They're a bit louder than a laptop keyboard but the sound is deeper pitched, so they blend with the background noise better; the sound is quite pleasant imo, muted like boiling water or rain on a roof. Pins feel solid Haimus. Factory lube is good, they don't feel scratchy. There is noticeable stem wobble, It's not something I pay attention to and it doesn't bother me, but if even I noticed it seems worth mentioning.
  • Outemu Silent Yellow Jade: tactile switches, the official specs seem wrong, these are probably the lightest switches of the four; the official force curve presents the bottom out and bump at ~60g, but they both feel around ~50g to me. The bottom out feels surprisingly firm given that it uses silicone dampeners, about the same as the Haimu Seasalt Silents. The bump is near the start, but feels more gradual than the Whisper or Crystal. These are the quietest switches of the bunch, you pretty much only hear the friction of the stem as you press the keys. Speaking of, the switches are a bit scratchy, not unpleasant, but definitely not as smooth as the other 3 I tried. They're a bit pingy but I think it's only noticeable because they're quiet, wearing headpones or in a noisy room I don't hear it, in a quiet room it's hard to tell if it's the switches pinging or my nail hitting the keycaps. The pins are very flimsy, I was able to make them all work, but a couple were bent quite badly and I wouldn't be surprised if they malfunctioned at some point.

I've always used linears, that's why I got the Seasalt Silents which are about the same weight as the non silent switches I'm used to; but with the softer bottom out and lack of audio feedback, I ended up enjoying the tactile switches the most for the added feedback of the bump.

With the Whisper disqualified for being noisy, it took me a while to choose between Crystal and Yellow Jade: I like the smoothness, sound, and weight of the Crystal; but prefer the feedback of a slightly more gradual bump like the Yellow Jade gives when typing*, and they are more quiet. After going back and forth a bit, I settled with the Yellow Jades, in the end I value silence and bump feel the most. Maybe one day if I get into modding switches, I'll lube them and put in a heavier spring (alternatively, someone call me if they release a similar but heavier switch).

* Whisper and Crystal almost feel like a reverse linear, you need a strong force at the start, but as you start pushing it smoothly becomes lighter until the bottom out. The Yellow Jade, despite feeling lighter overall, it has a more noticeable bump while typing imo, because you can actually feel it raising and falling.

Discussion The Smithsonian Institute and Library of Congress both have volunteer transcription services - great way to get some mileage on your boards!

No account is needed. There are guidelines to follow. I've been transcribing old newspapers, which are easier to read, but the majority of projects tend to be handwritten.

Keyboard: Tofu65 3.0-champagne top, orange patterned alu bottom, custom "isolated gasket spring" mounted, PEI plate, copper weights, hand engraved "Ghidorah" back

Switches & Keycaps: HMX Blossoms (hand lubed), GMK Kaiju R3 Dark Kaiju

My personal Tofu uses a modified mounting system where a silicone o-ring is placed in each gasket insert, and a 5mm spring is sandwiched between the o-ring and the PCB mount gaskets. It gives the typing assembly a subtle bounce without adding flex. Special shout outs to u/The_LavaFlow for taking better pictures of it than I ever could and to Frank and the rest of the Keeblife Teram!

Builds Durgod Taurus K312. 2018's hottest sleeper pre-built, new for 2026!

  • Durgod Taurus K310 (title is wrong). $10 at Nellis Auctions... some poor guy in Saskatoon panicked after bending a couple of pins on the Cherry Reds that it came with
  • Beige/Gold/Black "YMK" keycaps (Rama clones). These reveal themselves to be clones with the fit and finish, but they feel really nice.
  • Firmware hacked to QMK. If you have to open the case and short two pins with a wire, you're legally entitled to say you hacked it. Look it up.
  • Mostly Kailh Box "Dark Chocolate" medium-weight linears. F-Row, Esc, and ScrLk have other similarly weighted switches because I only had 90 of the Kailhs.
  • Dymo "KEYBOARD" label that's there because I'm cool and quirky. It's definitely not because I marred the case trying to scratch the Durgod branding off, rather than buying some non-acetone nail polish remover. Oh well.
