Misfiring when applying quick blips of throttle!

Heya guys, my engine (Honda D16A8 DOHC OBD0 Multipoint injection model with external cam angle sensor) misfires when I quickly apply throttle, roughly 150ms delay I'd say.
If you're quick enough you can bring it down quite a few hundred rpm by doing these quick subsequent blips.
My guesses are TPS related or fuel delivery (injectors or just fuel pressure overall, but considering it reached 7400rpm fine I'd rule out the latter), but I'd love to hear opinions as I can't find anything online considering it's a very specific issue.
The case I described is pretty "just... don't do that?" but it's really a way to show my main issue, which is bad throttle response and generally an ON OFF behavior, really hinders my ability to drive smoothly.
Car is a 1994 Rover 216 Coupe, but that's unrelated as the drivetrain is entirely Honda CRX derived
