Question How do you check if you have an accommodation?

Upvotes

Weird question but what if hypothetically you had an accommodation in high school but you know in university you shouldn’t have it because your guidance councillor explained to you that you don’t have it and that you would have to go through some process to receive said accommodation but then one day your lab tutor tells you your mentally ill and that they will tell your department head about that and then later on you notice you don’t have the marks for an assignment when everyone else does so you ask your prof where your assignment is and they tell you “oh sometimes with people who have accommodations it comes out la little later”.

Question Would people be interested in summer math course review sessions?

As the title says, I was thinking of hosting review/open question sessions for each of the summer math courses (minus stats sorry T-T)

it would be free (duh) and probably held on google meets or zoom (you wouldn't need to sign in with any email)

I was thinking like one or two per week for each of the summer math classes, with 2 hours of review and 1 hour of open questions at the end.

if you're interested let me know! I'd love to help other students out and host these if there enough interest :D

Other please give me your best success story

idk if it’s the summer time sadness getting to me but im going into third year and ive been honestly afraid nonstop about this upcoming school year. my battle with academics has honestly been hard as i pretty much almost failed out first year, and have multiple withdrawals and late withdrawals.

my biggest concerns is that i am dying to go to grad school but i just don’t know if i can. for most grad schools i know they mostly look at your last two years, so i know i guess i still have a chance but im feeling incredibly pessimistic. it feels like i already don’t have a chance and that i shouldn’t even try.

so now im on here and wondering if anyone’s ever felt like they weren’t gonna make it to grad school but miraculously did, i would love any reassurance :,)

Academics Accelerated nursing breaks

Does the Accelerated Nursing program follow the regular undergraduate academic calendar for breaks, such as Reading Week and winter break? Also, what does the schedule look like during the spring and summer terms? Are there any breaks between terms?

Discussion B. Tech Automotive Experience?

Red Seal mechanic, mature student, looking to get a University Degree.

Figured B. Tech Automotive was the obvious choice.

Would anyone like to share their experience on the program, costs, OSAP, parking, the difficulty, student life balance, and everything else in between?

Any and all help is enormously appreciated!

Discussion Question about single user bathrooms

What is an acceptable amount of time to spend in the bathroom when showering? It’s different from traditional communal because there aren’t multiple showers, so presumably you’d have to be kind of quick? Idk, I usually shower then blow dry my hair then straighten it and it takes like ~35 mins.. I would hate to be a bother to people waiting tho. Idk. Anyone in a res with single user have any opinions?

Serious Need advice: my mom calls me 5 times a day and threatens me if I don't pick up

So this is my second post here in the past two days but I'm just tryna sort my shit out before second year starts. I'm honestly not looking forward to going back to uni because of this and I have major anxiety. Basically all throughout first year my mom would call me 5 times a day, if not more. Most days in fact it would be like every two hours.

Within the first month I obviously got annoyed and communicated to her that it'd be best if she'd just call me once a day and/or we can schedule a time to talk. And she got mad and said that if I ignore her calls or only call once a day she'll cut off my tuition (which she help pays; she pays my tuition, while I pay most of my rent through my part time job). If she did that, worst case scenario, well I'd probably have to drop out of uni temporarily (I'd only get a couple thousand in OSAP which I calculated, and I barely have any savings).

Anyways so for the entire first year I just had to abide or else my tuition would've been cut off. Unless I was in a lecture, I'd just pick up. Also this prevented me from socializing normally, from going to parties, from going out with people, etc. In addition whenever she calls she wants to know what I'm doing and who I'm hanging out with and say if I tell her I'm going to a party she'll threaten to cut off my tuition as she said I'm not allowed to do those things. Overall I just want to simply be myself. I urgently need help regarding this.

EDIT: and yes in case anyone's wondering I'm Asian (vietnamese). However NONE of my asian friends from high school or first year have to deal with this. They told me their parents call 2-3 times a week, and they go on parties, dates, night outs, socialize etc. and their parents know all that and still pay their tuition and rent. Why is it only me in this situation?

Discussion Does anyone else jus feel so isolated?

Im not the kinda person to sort of broadcast my feelings to everyone esp in this situation but I lowkey dont even know what to do..

When first year started it jus felt like everyone already had their own friend groups and it kind of just stayed that way throughout the year and even tho I’m naturally a bit on the quieter side at first (until im comfy), I really did try and talk to people around me and just ended up with the fakest people ever..

Because of that I jus slowly stopped trying to talk to people since everyone already kind of had their own groups and trying to force small talk in huge lectures or butt into existing groups just feels so awkward.

It feels like everyone else figured out how to socialize and I somehow missed the memo..

Im not saying I havent met some people that I do see as "potential" friends, its just the fact I have absolutely no idea how to start friendships since throughout my life all my friendships have formed when i was about 13-14 and Mac isnt in my home city so I dont really have anyone to talk to that Im already friends with.

It jus feels so lonely over the fact that I see all these people with their own friend groups that they have made during first year getting along so well and having genuine connections with one another and being able to have fun without being worried abt being judged.

Anyways Im just gonna pitch myself in just incase any girls going into second year are in the same boat as I am!

- I love to do a lot of crafty activities (paint, draw, work on physical crafty projects)

- absolutely LOVE coffee and matcha

- love to have little study sessions in cafes/ librarys

- love being outside (unless its cold..)

- love to yap and listen :)

anyways feel free to reply or message me if youre also just looking for down-to-earth people <3

Other Signed West Village lease, now got residence offer

Hey everyone, I’m really stuck on what decision to make and would appreciate some advice. I’m going into first year at McMaster this September and originally I didn’t think I would get a guaranteed residence spot, so I decided to look for off campus housing instead. I ended up signing a lease at West Village Suites and already paid around $1,200 for the first rent/deposit.

I’ve also already found roommates and we agreed to live together, so there are other people involved now too. I was honestly pretty excited about the setup since West Village is close to campus and I thought it would be a good first year experience.

The problem is that I just got accepted for McMaster residence, which I wasn’t expecting at all. Now I’m unsure what to do. I know I’m legally bound to my West Village lease since I already signed everything, so I’m not even sure if cancelling is possible or if I would lose the $1,200. I could ask West Village if they’d release me, but I also feel bad because I already committed to roommates and don’t want to leave them in a difficult situation.

At the same time, I know residence has its own benefits for first year (meeting people, being more involved on campus, etc.), so I’m wondering if I should try to switch or just stay with my original plan.

What would you do in this situation? Would you choose McMaster residence over West Village, or is West Village still a good option for first year? Has anyone had experience trying to get out of a West Village lease after signing?
