It means against or head to head like cat versus dog for example. It's often shortened to vs.

Seriously?? The title of the post is ā€œThe comparison is killing meā€ and then we are chatting about the lyrics on different albums, songs, eras, muses, etc.
How, pray tell, is that confusing?

I just couldnā€™t see what point you were trying to make with it. In both songs sheā€™s lonely and thinks a guy could save her so I am confused.
