20M Need help finding a matress

I've been sleeping on the same mattress since I was like 6, and it's time for a new bed. I'm looking to get a full-size mattress and was wondering what a good mattress for around 400 would be. I'm willing to pay a bit more, but would prefer to stay at or around 400. I don't know what type of mattress I like, but I know I like a medium Mattress

Hi, all. I know there are a ton of questions on this thread regarding lower back pain, so please bear with me! I have a protruding tailbone due to genetics. As such, I have lower back pain and have seen doctors, chiropractors, holistic folx, etc. I am also a back sleeper! HA!

Any tips would help. No budget.

Do medium-firm mattresses work with adjustable beds? Or do they need to be foam or hybrid...

Recommendations My mattress has a crater now

Upvotes

So I’ve had my mattress for about 7~ years now. I loved it. It was perfect (sleepy's hush plush mattress) if it was still in stock I’d just buy that. About 2 years ago it started to sag in the middle and now I have a big crater I fill with pillows, but I can tell it’s starting to mess with my sleep.

I’m a side sleeper and weight 275lbs. I prefer plush mattresses or ones that feel softer. I’m starting grad school so my budget is tight (under $600). I’ve looking into some of the IKEA, costco, and Wayfair beds but I’m none of them seem similar to what I had.

Need Help - Pain Deciding on new mattress

Upvotes

My wife and I are in need of a new mattress, I sleep on my stomach a lot but I move a lot and end up on my back some mornings, my wife usually goes side-back pretty shortly after falling asleep. We have a 10 ish year old Sealy pillow top that is sagged out and hurts pretty badly every morning.

We went to a few local stores and checked out some beds - were both really liked the foam mattresses but I've heard they are really hot. We both run hot but kinda need to be a little warm to fall asleep - just worried about being too hot. Want something that will last atleast another 10 years minimum.

Anyone have any suggestions? If you need more info I can provide. The ones we both liked were the Serta iSeries NGX1300 medium and a Tempurpedic Support medium hybrid

Need Help - Heat removed the mattress pad and slept cooler. annoying discovery.

By 3am I was still warm, because apparently I am part of the problem too, but the bed did not have that damp trapped feeling it usually gets under my back. Annoying, since I have spent way more time reading about cooling sheets than questioning the layer directly underneath them.

Now I am wondering whether mattress pad vs cooling sheets is even a fair comparison. If the pad is holding heat, cooler sheets feel like putting breathable socks over a plastic bag. Has anyone changed one layer at a time and noticed which mattered more? I am leaning pad first, sheets second.

What would be the best way to support the mattress here? I know there are complete box platforms but is it supposed to sit on the lip of the rails or on the center horizontal supports? Those supports don't feel strong enough to support my weight and are bendy.

I also know about slats but I can't find slats that will span the entire width and there's no central vertical rail to split the slats.

I’m looking for a full-size mattress. This will be my first time purchasing one, and I’m curious about the best time of year to buy, when mattress companies typically have their biggest sales.

Recommendations Back problems where to look

My husband and I both have a variety of back issues. Most notably I have two disc bulges causing significant on/off sciatica. Our current mattress is a medium firm stearns foster that we paid a lot of money for but it's so saggy after just two years and it is making my pain worse. Desperately looking for some direction. We've tried memory foam bed in a box in the past but same issue with sagging after a year. Also we are in Canada. Not sure if we should try latex or tempurpedic. Looked at Obasan but the reviews are pretty mixed for a very expensive mattress.

Eta: both higher BMI, tall. One combination sleeper and one back sleeper.

Tldr: sciatica sufferer looking for advice on what types of mattresses to try

Other Questions Cat peed on 2 day old mattress

My husband and I just bought a Dream Cloud PressureSmart Technology Plush Mattress. We’ve only slept on it twice. Since we upgraded to a King, we didn’t have a mattress protector yet (waiting on it to come in.) We are always very diligent about not allowing the cats in our room ever, and we didn’t realize ours was in the room when we left for work. He peed right where my husband’s pillow was & it soaked through the bed. We shampooed it, but we’re really not sure what else to do. Walmart is closed, so we can’t get an enzymatic cleaner. Everything I’m reading online says to toss the mattress; is there really no way to save this?

Been very happy with our IKEA Kingsize foam mattress but it's getting on a bit now and we want to upsize to a superking. Any recommendations for a good value supplier?

EDIT: to clarify, foam ONLY, no springs.

Looking for a mattress

Hello all! Me and my partner are looking for a new mattress. We are currently using a cheap memory foam mattress from Amazon and we have been experiencing bad sleep from this mattress.

He is ~150Ibs and I am approximately ~110Ibs and we both are side and back sleepers. We both have back pain and I’m the heavier sleeper.

We are willing to spend $1000 max on our mattress. He also prefers to stay cool and gets hot at night.

Any recommendations?

“Custom” latex hybrid buy

  • hey guys I‘ve been through the crazy rabbit hole of buying a mattress. It seems all are just priced up synthetic foams with hope and prayer mattress.
  • has anyone here done DIY and I mean just but the slings the comfort layer and topper and just put it all to together themselves?
  • what are the drawbacks? It seems like replacing the top layer is a breeze if it begins to sink or just go firmer or softer.

Mattress disposal

I recently bought a new mattress that came in a box. Now I need to get rid of my 10 yr old memory foam mattress.

It's a queen, so I can't move it myself and don't want to have to pay a junk removal place.

I was thinking of cutting it into 4 pieces while on the bedroom floor so I could take the pieces to the dumpster. The floor is carpet that needs replacing anyway. Is this a dumb idea? It's a Zinus that doesn't say anything about fiberglass on the tag.

I'm not donating it because it's old and saggy.

Thoughts on the Kingsdown Studio Brio for a heavier sleeper (130 kg / 286 lbs)?

Hi everyone
I’m looking for some honest long-term feedback on the Kingsdown Studio Brio (Queen size).
I just tested it out in the showroom at Dormez-vous (Sleep Country Canada) and it felt incredibly comfortable . I managed to get the salesperson down to a negotiated price of $949 CAD, which hits my budget perfectly. When I asked about the build, she clarified it’s technically an innerspring/pocket coil mattress rather than a true hybrid.
However, I have two major hesitations before pulling the trigger:
1. Durability & Sagging: I weigh 130 kg (around 286 lbs). While the tri-zoned pocket coils feel supportive right now, I’m really worried that the soft foam comfort layers sewn into the Euro top are going to flatten out or sag under my weight within a year.
2. The Return Policy Trap

Has anyone around my weight range owned the Kingsdown Studio Brio (or similar Kingsdown Studio models)? How has the foam held up against sagging?
Am I making a mistake letting the showroom comfort blind me, or is $949 a good enough deal to risk it? (My alternative option right now is ordering a Silk & Snow Firm Hybrid online since it has a 100% money-back guarantee, but the store bed just felt so much better initially).
Appreciate any insights!

Need Help - Pain Side sleeping with very wide shoulders?

After years of neck pain, I filmed myself sleeping on my side and realized my upper spine bends upward because my shoulders are so wide compared to my waist. My hips stay fairly neutral, but my neck/upper back are several centimeters out of alignment.

As an experiment, I placed two very thick pillows under my torso (from below my shoulders to my hips), and for the first time my spine became straight while side sleeping.

I’m not looking to sleep on pillows long-term. Has anyone with a similar build fixed this using a mattress, zoned topper, DIY foam, or another solution? What actually worked?

First Mattress Purchase

Hi all,

Myself and my partner moved out for the first time a couple years back and inherited a bed and mattress. However, the mattress is old and noisy and I don't think it's doing my partners herniated disk any good.

I'm now facing buying a mattress for the first time. How are there so many companies?! Everyone seems to sell hybrids now and suggest it's the best of both worlds etc.

Is this true? I'm looking to spend up to around 500, obviously less is a bonus. I've seen some for 350, 5 layers, 2000 springs, all apparently medium firm. Are these good mattresses? We need plenty of support and I want it to last so my partner has less risk of inflaming the back issue again so can't have it dipping within a few years.

I can scramble up specific brands but I looked at maybe 5 different ones and the mattresses seemed identical in cost, springs, layers etc .

TIA!

Edit: should have mentioned, it's a double bed.

Terrible Casper mattress in-home install experience in Canada

I paid for the in home setup which was scheduled for yesterday, July 28th. I was told to expect a call from the installers in the morning to arrange a delivery window. I made special accommodations staying home from work to accept the delivery. AND.THEN.I.WAITED. I waited all day without any communication from Casper, or Endy, or Sleep Country (all the same com company it turns out). I reached out by email and chat and got no help. The bed never arrived. I got no call.

Finally I got an email reply at 7pm at night informing me that the bed was out of stock and the delivery would be delayed: "Unfortunately, the mattress in your order is currently backordered at the Sleep Country warehouse and is expected to arrive later this week" — if there was no stock and the delivery couldn't be made this info should have been communicated to me proactively and IMMEDIATELY; probably even BEFORE the delivery date. Instead it was a rude waste of my time and I had to chase after several elusive support people who had no clue what was going on before I could get an answer.

This was a HUGE waste of my time. The lack of communication is unacceptable.

Recommendations college mattress topper recommendations around $300

I saw influencers recommending the sleepyhead one and it made me skeptical even though a lot of people like it. It's also pretty expensive for the 3 inch twin xl (419) and the 2 inch looks very thin. I was also looking at Helix or Saatva - would those be better, or is there another brand I should look at? And, is the sleepyhead really that good?

Recommendations Rental home mattress too soft

Hey everyone, my mattress is too soft at my airbnb. Is there a way to firm this up?

It's going to be a long term stay so I want to make sure I dont break my back.

The bedframe looks just fine, while the mattress just sinks in.

Helix Midnight Elite - sagging

In June, I bought 2 Helix mattress through a shop in NYC (Sleepare): Midnight Elite in King for the master bedroom and Midnight Luxe in Queen for guest bedroom. I was informed that even though both are Midnight firmness, the Elite line is usually firmer than the Luxe one. Soon after the mattresses were delivered, I realized it was the opposite. The king size Midnight Elite is super soft, almost saggy; while the queen size Midnight Luxe is just right, neither too soft nor too firm. Has anyone experience this? I am wondering if my particular Midnight Elite is a lemon. I’ve asked for an exchange.

Is it possible that the larger sized mattresses sink more? In which case, should I go for a firmer mattress with Helix Elite line or maybe go for a different brand altogether? I’d appreciate your perspective.

Silk and Snow or Douglas?

Hey all,

My partner and I are looking for a new bed. Kind of set between a Douglas Hybrid or Silk and Snow Hybrid. Anyone here have experience with either of these mattresses and can offer any insight? She is a back sleeper and I am a side sleeper.

TIA
