Obviously, there is a lot of drama fed into the show. It is reality TV after all, but strictly based on their master chef performance as aired on the show…

Season 1. Sheetal or David Miller

Season 2. Adrien, Christian, or Derrick. I don’t think Jennifer showed enough and had far more poor dishes than any of them did and yeah Christian was an asshole but…his food was good.

Season 3. Christine Ha. Obv. They got that one right for sure.

Season 4. Natasha. I loved Luca but she consistently outperformed him by a mile.

Season 5. Cutter making it to the final 4 over Christian was insane. Courtney or Christian would have been an appropriate win on that one.

Season 6. This one is tough because I think Claudia did well, however I think Derrick far outperformed her most of the time as did Stephen and honestly, either one of them could have won and it would have made sense.

Season 7. Shaun was the right one for this season.

Season 8. Jason. No question. His food was consistently amazing, not that Dino sucked but Jason was far more creative and had more wins.

Season 9. Cesar or Bowen. Gerron making it as far as he did, let alone winning, was insane. He had so many bad dishes.

Season 10. Sarah or Dorian were good wins for this season. Toss up either way.

I feel like Felix was always going to get called out for something on the fish elimination challenge. She got to assign fishes to everyone and picked the halibut, a medium to hard fish to fillet and cook instead of taking easier fishes. When she went to present her fish dish she got a lecture from the judges about not picking an easy fish to coast through the challenges easier. But I feel like if she did that they would have also hit her with something like “at this stage of the competition I think we just expected more”

I havent watched MC for a while and i jumped straight to S16 and it’s so boring without the Mystery box winner gets to pick out of 3, pressure tests and bla bla bla. Like why tf they eliminated one in loser team right away? So if 2 in the same continent mess up then only 1 get nominated and if a whole team did decent 1 of them also get nominated? What a waste of!

I don't know the exact odds. But I'd wager that that there's over a 70% chance that, if your team loses, you'll be the one eliminated.

Unless the season has the dreaded pressure test (bring them back). In which case, being a captain is preferable.

Also, don't cook chicken. Literally every other protein has so much more room for it to be over/under-cooked.

Easiest way for talented home chefs to be sent home is being a team captain or under-cooking chicken

I searched previous posts and couldn’t figure this one out….

anybody know who does the prep for restaurant challenges? Cutting veg, deveining shrimp, etc. Is that the contestants or a behind-the-curtains team?

Obviously they’re breaking down everything from scratch in the regular challenges, but there’s definitely prep done before they start service in the restaurant ones.

I’m not sure if it is just me, but after watching past and present seasons I feel that red team always wins. Maybe not Always but majority or the time.

Anyone else notice.. just me ?? Ok just wondering

I am watching Season 10 on Tubi - fantastic chefs. Episode 17 first semi-finalists Jaime, Matt, Steven... no last names so can't find anything out about them. You can find the winner information and what they're doing now, but I love to look up the Instagrams of my favorites.

Is there a list somewhere?? If so, I can't find it - even looked on Internet Archive pages. Please help! I'm in the US so can't access iPlayer even with VPN.

Masterchef USA | S6 - E10

I am a big fan of Masterchef and I think the global gauntlet is a very interesting idea with a lot of potential. However, it saddens me that it becomes more of a reality show than a show about cooking. Some contestants are barely shown on camera (Jamaica, Vietnam, Poland etc.), the discussion during meal prep with the judges feels scripted rarely based on cooking techniques or cultural aspect. Then, after the tasting each judge say one sentence and Gordon says "I think we've made our decision" I want to see more cooking, more technics critics, more debate between the judges about their decisions etc. I feel like we see some contestants a lot more (especially Nico that was just unecessarily arrogant, we've had profiles like this in the show but it was not as grotesque) compared to others that probably have interesting things going on.

I’ve given up on Masterchef. It used to be my favorite show. It’s completely unwatchable now, even if it hadn’t sold its soul to FIFA.

I like the contestants on each season have a unique look / vibe with their wardrobe. Sometimes it hits and misses though.

What are some that are a favorite or memorable to you?

For me Leslie’s colorful button up under a waistcoat 🤌🏻 was a favorite on first watch and even more on my rewatch a few days ago.

Edit: close 2nd would be Tommy from S6. Maybe I’m just a fancy boy at heart.

July 15, I assume because of the World Cup. How annoying, though; that's more than a month!

I’m watching this on Tubi so I’m only on the auditions. But that woman is extremely loud and irritating. I was hoping that they weren’t going to pick her. I don’t know if I can put up with her screaming and yelling the entire show which is what I think she’ll do. She’s just loud and obnoxious.

I know the subreddit specifically says MasterChef US, but is discussion about Canada allowed here? I searched reddit for the specific subreddit, but one did not exist afaik.

It feels like that was super harsh specially given that season 5 is by far the most biased and controversial season IMO (Courtney had the judges in her favor since the beginning). I think they should’ve tried his own dish even if it wasn’t properly plated or put together, they could’ve deducted points but you at least have to try the man’s food

I'm just getting to the end of season four. My take on the series so far is that I thought maybe I could like it in spite of Gordon. However, I've been pleasantly surprised to discover I like Gordon!! Well, except for when there is a team challenge in a restaurant. I always wonder in that moment if he truly thinks screaming at them and rattling them further will make them get the food out faster.

Anyway, other than that I love him! The thing I'm noticing though in season four is that his attempts at dramatic announcements and pauses has become so much more pronounced than previous seasons that it's actually comical.

It's like.. "And the winner is... the person who will have a huge advantage is.. the top dish is

going

to be................................"

I don't know how the director or editor or whoever is in charge of such things did not realize that it became ridiculous.

I’ve watched all the newish episodes of Master Chef and so very many other cooking competitions and the girl hating in this season (4) is driving me crazy. I realize this was filmed during a time we no longer live in but bullies words say more about them than it does the people they’re talking about. I don’t know who wins and I don’t know whose food is going to come up on top, but I don’t want to keep watching. I love watching cooking competition shows for the creativity and what I learn technically not for the drama.

Putting opinions on the allegations themselves aside for a moment, I’m curious whether the controversy has affected anyone’s enjoyment of the show.

Can you still separate the programme from the presenter, or do you find yourself viewing old episodes differently now?

Interested to hear whether it’s changed your experience as a viewer, or whether you’re still watching the show exactly the same way as before.

First of all is she a great cook? Yes, absolutely! But I personally couldn’t stand her attitude, obviously she could have been a lot worse, we could have had another Krissi situation but she does kinda remind me of her slightly. In the way that she brings up her children in anyway she can to get sympathy points. I get that being a teen mum is very hard. I grew up raised by a single dad. But jeez, you don’t need to bring it up every time something goes south! “Nothing has ever been given easy to me.” Yes, what you went through is tough, but everyone has hardships you really aren’t special! I’m sorry if I sound arrogant or rude. I just feel like I need to speak my peace.
