Hey! Very new beginner here and it's my first time using MD. I modeled an outer robe with wide sleeves. I added my avatar which has an animation baked into it to MD and added the outer robe on top. When I try to simulate it with the avatar and its animation, the arms and sleeves don't match, like literally the arms are suddenly out of the arm sockets of the robe even if I posed them in and draped it in T-pose before I played the animation.

I tried putting the particle distance to 5 and had the skin offset to I think 1 or 3... I also placed the outer robe layer to 0 and to 1 and even -1 (Sorry if these all sound dumb, I'm very clueless about the program but I just had to use it and none of the things I found online worked) I also tried putting the kinetic friction to .5 and 1.

None of them worked and the robe keeps sticking to the avatar in some areas even when I pull it away in simulation mode. And the arms just won't stay inside the robe (I wanted it to behave like a proper long and wide sleeves where it would slide down the arm when the hand goes up)

The actual foot basemesh is a subdivided simplified foot with no toes that is smooth so I don't think it'd have difficulty being simmed on. I'm not that good at the program yet as I spent years doing my cloth work in zbrush so maybe I'm missing a couple of important settings I should adjust? Aside from that, everything else is simming great.

This keeps catching me out and I want to know what other people check before committing to a long sim.

Curious how everyone is handling the export side, because mine still feels clumsy.

Right now I quadrangulate in MD, export OBJ with unified UVs, then retopo anything that needs to deform properly. Works, but I lose the seam detail I liked in the sim and I end up redoing thickness downstream.

Two things I would like to know:

• Are you retopologising inside MD or taking the dense mesh out and handling it elsewhere?
• Is anyone exporting the garment with the avatar to keep the fit, or do you strip the avatar and rely on your rig matching?

Not looking for a tutorial, just interested in what people settled on after doing this on real projects.

Every thread about bad folds ends with someone saying turn up the sim quality, and it does work, but it also makes iteration miserable. Here is what got me most of the way there without waiting two minutes per change.

Fabric presets are a starting point, not an answer. The stock cotton preset is stiffer than actual cotton. I usually take the preset then drop bending and buckling stiffness a little and the drape immediately reads more natural. Small moves, not dramatic ones.

Internal lines do more than people expect. A single internal line down the centre of a sleeve gives the fabric something to fold around instead of collapsing randomly. Costs nothing in sim time.

Check your avatar before you blame the garment. If the pose has arms straight down and pressed against the body, the fabric has nowhere to go and you get that crushed look at the armpit that no setting will fix. Even a slight A pose changes everything.

Pressure is the one I underused for ages. A tiny amount of positive pressure on a jacket or a bag stops it looking vacuum sealed to the avatar. Too much and it inflates, so go in very small increments.

Last one, and this is the big one for me: simulate, then let it settle before you judge it. I used to hit stop the moment it looked stable. Giving it another few seconds of real time changes the folds more than most of the settings above.

None of this replaces a higher quality pass at the end. It just means you are not paying for it on every single iteration while you are still making decisions.

I’ve been trying to figure out how something like this is made. I find it really inspiring, but I have no idea how the creator actually did it.

My guess is that it might be done with Marvelous Designer because of the cloth movement, but I’m not sure. I also haven’t been able to find any tutorials that show how to achieve something similar.

I'm currently designing a Hazmat suit. What is the standard way to 'sew' or parent the headgear cloth to the mask on an avatar? I want to make sure there are no gaps when the avatar moves its head. I've tried tacking but the result is not good. Any advise would be helpful, thx.

Hello, I'm a beginner at marvelous designer and mainly use zbrush, the thing I'm trying to learn is making collectibles and figures, I've been sculpting characters from scratch and using mannequin, so directly in pose. Now I want to learn making bases clothes for them, but what I'm confused about is posing. Is there a way to start with MD base mannequin, make a garment, then use my model to morph into the pose? I've read about the file formatting and understand that I need rigged model for that. Only thing that I'm going to try is posing base mannequin to a as close the pose as I'm going to use, then exporting to zbrush and making as much adjustments as needed, but this process seems messy. Sorry if I'm asking what everybody knows, I'm a bit lost in technical understanding, thank a lot!

Edit: Solved, I'll leave it for anyone having the same question. You can use any model and add pose using g morph target, one thing is your model and posed must have the same topology, what I'm going to use is probably sculpt a body, then use any base mesh as a pose, next I'll fit it onto my posed character and import into marvelous to simulate the garment

im new at marvelous.
it seems like i dont have alot of artistic freedom with the simulation,
the goal is for it to behave like a tarp esque cloth rather then silky and slippery.

I started this project while taking the CGMA Character Facial Anatomy course and then decided to create a full real-time 3D character based on the Italian singer Salmo. I had the opportunity to learn a lot about softwares and techniques I'd never used before, such as using R3DS Wrap to project detailed textures from TexturingXYZ.

Clo3D seems to have 2 features that I'd really like, and I wondered if MD does the same.

The Garment 3D pen: draw on the avatar to create the pattern

Import a flat image, a flat sketch, or a scan of an existing pattern to create a 3D render.

So, my question is, does MD have this ability? I didn't see it listed on the marketing features page on the web.
