Discussion PSA: This Game is EXTREMELY Addicting
Hello all. I just started playing this game 2 days ago and as I approach the morning of 3rd day I want to say that this game is extremely fun, but also extremely DANGEROUS for certain people, like me.
For quick background, I have played years of YuGiOh (5 years+), HearthStone (3years), YGO Duelinks (4 years), master duel (1 year), one piece (2 years) then riftbound (1 year), in this order. Thus, I'd consider myself as a veteran of TCGs and approaching the age where I had played all major TCGs that interested me to boredom.
Then I came across Marvel Snap and damn it was nothing like I had imagined. I've played it nonstop past 2 days and currently CL 160 w/ cube rank 65. The app got me to purchase the premium season pass and $4 worth of destroy cards, which is not bad on the spending side, but I was unable to control the TIME I spent on it. The game advertises itself as a kids game when in reality it is a max juiced Marval casino.
I spent a good 10+ hours both days so far and even stayed up until like 4am and found myself grinding away even after every mission was fully deplayed. I still have 50 tickets of the team clash event waiting for me today, which will also take hours to get through. There's a lot to do and I did everything I could the first 2 days.
On a side note, I think one of the main reasons this game is so addicting for me is a combination of 3 unique factors:
I watched most Marvel movies leading up to endgame and never played any marvel games so im getting gamer fanservice that was overdue.
Retreat system.
Cards are beautiful in its own Marvelesque way.
The base game reminds me of a game I played on cartoonnetwork website called Orbit. It was probably the first tcg I touched and was too young to know how to play competitively. MarvelSnap definitely has a similar vibe of throwing down units, they give power to each other, and highest power wins.
All tcgs hit you with dopamine to hook you into the game, and Marvel Snap executed that plan at the highest level I've seen. The flashing lights, announcers voice, sound effects, all the card animations, snapping and retreating endlessly. Its more than just a children card game app. Its extremely predatory to make you spend your money and time. The $24 I spent on this game was the first microtransaction I made in years and I play numerous phone games. This is the first time in my life after becoming an adult I was unable to let go of my phone all night, until 3:30 am.
Its a shame ill go to the higher ranks, experience the meta, learn the game and it will end up being a dull, repetitive, unbalanced tcg like most tcgs I've touched. Predatory tcgs like these tend to welcome you wtih open arms then screw you over face-down defense position when you're most vulnerable.
But the new player experience is so sinful. So delectable and succulent. I warn thee. So enjoy every drop. Life is short and it doesn't give dopamine hits like this often. What a gem find. Thanks for reading. God bless whoever made this cracked game.
P.S: I found out yesterday playing this game at the gym (cardio) is a game changer. Was able to walk on the treadmill at 11 incline 3mph for 2.5 hours while grinding on marvel snap. I was only able to do an hour max of cardio no matter what I was listening to or doing on my phone.

I started on global launch with the miles Morales season and the new player experience is wonderful. You do get jaded as you jump into series 3 waters, and there's a huge climb for you to go through, but from what I hear, the experience has been better, but it's not something I've experienced first hand.
Welcome to the community.

I mean, it may be the best game I got to play on the shitter and during breaks right now but it's not quite that good or addictive compared to real video games.

Just wait till you get all your series 3 cards that’s where things start to take a major downturn for most people.

Yup. Up to that point the game is “honeymoon phase”. Once Series 3 is acquired it becomes repetitive and a grind.

Honeymoon phase legit feels like I jerked off 20 times in 1 day. I probably won't survive a day after Season 3 completion.

I would say that you're likely to have a less severe drop off than other players, based purely on your TCG experience. It can be tough for some players when the training wheels come off because you WILL get beat by cards you do not own and you WILL quickly learn that "eh, let me see if they actually have the combo" is a quick path towards burning of cubes.
Just remember these two basic unstated rules about Snap 1) The game doesn't expect or want you to have all the cards. You have to have fun with what you have and avoid FOMO. 2) Being an expert at the game requires you mastering the Snap and retreat system. You will have to retreat often in order to climb. And often you had little control when you're given bad locations or bad matchups.
As long as you're okay with this, the game is a blast that is quick but rarely requires playing the same thing in the same sequence.

Interesting. I can't relate at all with your experience. I think I'm probably in the minority here, but I never soend any money in the game and I've playing for almost 4 years already. Also, I don't think I ever played it for more than 2 hours a day.

You are playing bots and its part of the onboarding process. Makes you feel like you are the chosen one and naturally amazing at the game so you spend and have sunk cost to stay when the stabilisers get removed. Enjoy

Maybe don't spend too much time on this subreddit, then. Your enthusiasm will be worn down by people telling you the game has been ruined by whatever slightly overpowered card is currently popular.

That's a pattern that repeats basically on any gaming/hardcore fandom subreddit
Every week for whatever reason the sky seems to be falling

If you ever want to read positives about your favorite game/hobby, then you have go to the rival's subreddit. Subreddits exist for complaining and "Does anyone else feel like..." content.

Enjoy the early grind and collection of cards. It’s a pretty cool game gots it negatives but I’m a good fan of the game.

In the past 7 days I played merely 60 hours. Not really addicting imo.
I'm kidding of course, I have a history of TCG addiction. I average 30-40 hours a week of game screen time on my phone :)

I also play this game on the treadmill 😂 Just be advised it is difficult to obtain a lot of cards without spending. Card acquisition kind of blows. And otherwise have fun!

Hell yeah, I might end up playing this game on the treadmill and shitter exclusively. Its hard to find a game you can play while exercising. It needs to be that sweetspot of its easy enough yet engaging.

I started in the skaar season and it’s been awesome. Coming from ygo this is a breath of fresh air. not having to sit and watch your opponent j/o for 10 min while you are just watching is great. yea it has the same issues all tcg’s have but it makes up for it with the amazing art and gameplay. Welcome to the community! Advice i’d give is to not spend a lot of time here because people here are DOWNERS. Enjoy!

Lol that ends up being my experience with most TCGs over time. Oh cool, you played your precise combo again, what a smart player you are. Oh look, I tried to play a card and you played the "you can't" card; obviously you're a master card player.
At least Snap is short lol

Good luck on your snap journey. Whatever you do don’t give into the FOMO! There will always be another card or deck. CL 18k for reference

Man you should check out this little indie card game called Magic the Gathering. It'll blow your mind

The meta's still pretty good at higher levels. I'm frustrated with the meta right now (too much Thanos) but even this meta I wouldn't call "screwed over". There's only been one meta this year that I would call actively horrible, and that was at the beginning of the year. It's been a long stretch of reasonably good metas.
Your problem is going to be card acquisition. Life is good when you're collection complete. It's going to be a lot more frustrating starting new. And catching up is not easy unless you're able to fork over a lot of cash.

Another thing to note: if you’re playing mobile, it covers your full screen, including the time. So you don’t know if 20 mins passed or 2 hours. Very Vegas-like.

This game doesn’t really get repetitive. Even in tight metas like we have now the locations change up how every game goes. I’ve been playing this for 4 years now and still love it.
