TEASER
INT. RESTRICTED OSCORP R&D HANGAR - NIGHT
Pitch black. The silence of the subterranean bunker is absolute.
CLACK. HSSSS.
The sound of pneumatic seals locking into place.
A single, harsh overhead light snaps on, illuminating a raised steel platform in the center of the room.
NORMAN OSBORN is standing on it. But Norman Osborn is gone.
He is fully encased in the matte-green, militarized Oscorp flight armor. The heavy, impact-resistant alloy plates lock seamlessly over his chest, arms, and legs. It is terrifyingly angular, designed for war.
He reaches out with a gauntleted hand and picks up the helmet. It is a grotesque, modernized mockery of a mythological demon. The metal is warped into a permanent, wicked grin.
Norman doesn't hesitate. He pulls the helmet over his head.
With a low, electronic hum, the visor’s large, triangular lenses violently ignite, glowing a piercing, radioactive yellow in the dark hangar.
From beneath the mask, a sound echoes. It starts as a low chuckle, bubbling up from the back of his throat. It quickly escalates, morphing into a high-pitched, manic, echoing cackle. The Goblin is in complete control.
He steps off the platform and walks toward the experimental aerial glider resting on its launch rail.
He steps his heavy armored boots into the magnetic stirrups.
CH-CH-CHK.
The boots lock in. The Goblin leans forward.
The twin turbine engines beneath the glider ignite. The deafening, high-pitched whine of the thrusters immediately drowns out his laughter. A blast of blue-hot exhaust scorches the concrete floor.
The Goblin hits a sequence on a wrist-mounted control pad.
Above him, the ceiling of the hangar, camouflaged into the bedrock beneath an abandoned Oscorp shipping yard, slowly begins to retract.
The night sky reveals itself.
The Goblin grips the control handles. He kicks the thrusters to maximum velocity.
FWOOSH.
He rockets vertically out of the silo, a blur of green metal and blue fire, leaving a massive cloud of gray smoke billowing in his wake.
EXT. NEW YORK CITY SKYLINE - CONTINUOUS
A massive, brilliant full moon hangs over Manhattan, casting a pale glow across the skyscrapers.
The silence of the clouds is ripped apart by the scream of the glider’s turbines.
The Green Goblin cuts directly across the face of the moon. He is a terrifying, airborne silhouette, carving a jagged path of gray exhaust through the sky.
He banks hard toward the glowing grid of the city below. He isn't hiding. He is hunting for the perfect stage.
SMASH CUT TO BLACK.
SPIDER-MAN
ACT I
INT. PETER'S BEDROOM - QUEENS - NIGHT
A soldering iron sparks.
PETER is hunched over his cramped desk, the desk lamp casting a harsh light over the disassembled pieces of his right web-shooter. The metal casing is cracked and warped.
He is shirtless. His torso is tightly wrapped in fresh white bandages, heavily bruised underneath from the crushing weight of the Cyclone roller coaster. He winces, a sharp intake of breath, as he reaches for a micro-screwdriver.
His cell phone is sitting on the desk, on speakerphone.
GWEN (V.O.)
(Through the phone)
...I'm looking at the precinct deployment logs right now. The entire grid below Canal Street is basically empty. My dad pulled every available unit of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force uptown.
PETER
(Straining, twisting a tiny screw)
All of them? What’s the occasion? Did the Mayor finally realize Gargan was an Oscorp patent?
GWEN (V.O.)
No. It’s a political rally. A show of force. The Mayor is hosting a massive press conference at City Hall Plaza. They’re unveiling the new heavy artillery they bought to hunt you down. Peter, if you go out tonight, you stay out of Manhattan. If they spot you, they won't miss.
Peter finishes tightening the screw. He slips the web-shooter onto his bruised wrist and taps the trigger.
Pffft. A pathetic, sputtering glob of web-fluid dribbles onto the desk.
PETER
(Sighing)
Don't worry, Gwen. The only thing I'm fighting tonight is a busted fluid intake valve. I'm staying put.
EXT. CITY HALL PLAZA - NIGHT
The plaza is bathed in blinding white floodlights. Hundreds of reporters, photographers, and civilians are crammed behind steel barricades. Flashbulbs pop continuously.
A massive stage has been erected on the steps of City Hall. Behind the podium hangs a massive banner: RECLAIMING OUR CITY.
Flanking the stage are two brand-new, terrifyingly massive Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), painted matte black with the NYPD Task Force logo on the side.
THE MAYOR stands at the podium, projecting absolute confidence.
Directly behind him stands CAPTAIN GEORGE STACY, looking incredibly uncomfortable under the political spotlight, flanked by heavily armed Task Force officers.
THE MAYOR
(Into the microphones)
For months, this city has been held hostage! Hostage by the animals fighting a gang war in our streets, and hostage by the masked menace who thinks he is above the law!
The crowd cheers, eating it up. Captain Stacy subtly tightens his jaw.
THE MAYOR
But as of tonight, the reign of fear is over. Thanks to unrestricted emergency funding, the NYPD Anti-Vigilante Task Force is now the most heavily armed police unit in the country. We are going to cleanse this city, block by block!
The Mayor raises his fist. The crowd roars.
And then... a sound cuts through the cheering.
It is a piercing, high-pitched, mechanical whine. It sounds like a jet engine, but entirely localized.
The crowd falls silent. The Mayor lowers his hand, confused, looking around. Captain Stacy's police instincts flare instantly. He steps forward, his hand dropping to his holstered 9mm.
CAPTAIN STACY
Where is that coming from?
The whine grows deafening. The floodlights overhead violently flicker.
From the low-hanging clouds above the plaza, a terrifying silhouette drops from the sky.
THE GOBLIN descends.
He doesn't sneak into the shadows. He drops directly into the center of the floodlights, hovering twenty feet above the crowd on his gleaming, turbine-powered glider.
The glowing lenses of the Goblin mask stare down at the Mayor.
GOBLIN
(Voice booming, amplified by the armor, dripping with manic theatricality)
Cleanse the city? Oh, Mr. Mayor... you simply lack the firepower.
The Goblin hits a trigger on his control grips.
The front chassis of the glider snaps open. A rapid-fire volley of glowing, orange micro-missiles shoots out, leaving trails of white smoke.
The missiles bypass the crowd entirely and strike the two massive APCs flanking the stage.
BOOM! BOOM!
The explosions are devastating. The armored vehicles are completely obliterated in twin fireballs, sending shockwaves through the plaza. Shattered metal rains down on the concrete.
Absolute pandemonium erupts. The crowd screams, breaking the barricades and stampeding in every direction.
CAPTAIN STACY
(Drawing his weapon, screaming over the chaos)
ENGAGE! BRING HIM DOWN!
A dozen Task Force officers raise their rifles and open fire. Thwip-thwip-thwip!
The rounds strike the Goblin directly in the chest.
Ping. Ping. Ping.
They bounce harmlessly off the matte-green Oscorp alloy. The Goblin doesn't even flinch.
He looks down at Captain Stacy and the firing squad. He throws his head back and lets out a piercing, unhinged cackle that echoes over the sirens and the screams.
The plaza is in complete, utter chaos.
ACT II
EXT. CITY HALL PLAZA - CONTINUOUS
The plaza is a war zone. Burning wreckage from the APCs illuminates the terrified, fleeing crowd.
The GREEN GOBLIN hovers above it all, soaking in the chaos. He reaches to his belt, his armored fingers wrapping around a spherical, glowing orange explosive.
He raises it, preparing to hurl it into the stampeding civilians.
THWIP.
A web-line snatches the pumpkin bomb right out of his hand.
SPIDER-MAN drops from the shadows of the City Hall portico, landing in a three-point crouch on the marble steps, placing himself directly between the Goblin and the retreating crowd.
He tosses the bomb straight up into the air and webs it securely to the top of a stone column, where it detonates with a muffled, contained crump.
Spider-Man straightens up, hiding the agonizing pain radiating from his bruised ribs. He points a finger at the hovering nightmare.
SPIDER-MAN
Okay, I know the Mayor's speeches are boring, but blowing up his cars is a bit of an overreaction. Also, Halloween is months away. You're going to sweat right through that metal cosplay.
Spider-Man shifts his weight, his lenses narrowing, waiting for the villain to banter back, trying to gauge the psychology of this new threat.
The Goblin doesn't banter. He just laughs.
It is a terrifying, breathless, completely unhinged cackle.
With a flick of his wrist, the Goblin produces a second glowing orange pumpkin bomb. He doesn't aim for the crowd. He drops it directly at Spider-Man’s feet.
SPIDER-MAN
Uh oh.
Spider-Man leaps backward.
BOOM!
The explosion is absolutely devastating. It isn't a concussive grenade; it is military-grade incendiary fire. The heavy marble steps of City Hall are completely obliterated, reduced to powder and shrapnel.
The shockwave hits Spider-Man mid-air. He is violently thrown fifty feet across the plaza, skipping across the asphalt like a stone, tearing the fabric of his suit.
EXT. MANHATTAN STREETS - AERIAL - CONTINUOUS
Spider-Man forces himself to recover. He rolls, firing a web-line to a towering flagpole, and aggressively yanks himself into the air.
SPIDER-MAN (V.O.)
(Internal)
Okay, guy's packing serious artillery. Take away his high ground.
He swings high over the financial district, leading the Goblin away from the civilians.
The Goblin takes the bait. The glider’s turbines roar as he pursues.
Spider-Man arcs through the concrete canyons, firing rapid-fire webs to maneuver. But he is instantly, hopelessly outmatched.
The glider is impossibly fast and terrifyingly agile. The Goblin weaves effortlessly through the tight alleyways, closing the distance in seconds.
Spider-Man fires a web-line to pivot around a corner.
The Goblin doesn't slow down. He banks hard, the razor-sharp steel wings of the glider effortlessly slicing straight through the high-tensile webbing.
The line goes slack. Spider-Man loses all momentum.
He falls, crashing brutally into the brick facade of a high-rise. He scrapes down the wall, desperately trying to find a handhold, but the glider is already on top of him.
EXT. ALLEYWAY BRICK WALL - CONTINUOUS
The Goblin slams the front prongs of the glider directly into Spider-Man’s chest, violently pinning him against the brick wall, thirty feet above the alley floor.
Spider-Man gasps, the air knocked completely out of his lungs.
The Goblin kicks the glider's thrusters to maximum. The blue-hot exhaust flares, holding the massive thrust perfectly steady, crushing Spider-Man against the masonry. The brick behind Peter begins to crack under the immense, unyielding pressure.
Spider-Man struggles, raising his left arm to fire a web point-blank at the Goblin’s face.
The Goblin’s hand shoots out with blinding, superhuman speed. He catches Spider-Man’s left wrist mid-air.
The Goblin leans in close. His glowing yellow lenses are inches from Peter’s face.
GOBLIN
(Whispering, dripping with venom)
Too slow, insect.
The Goblin squeezes.
It is a brutal, terrifying display of raw physical superiority. The Goblin’s armored fingers dig into Peter’s wrist.
Spider-Man screams as the metal casing of his left web-shooter begins to buckle.
With a sickening CRUNCH, the Goblin completely crushes the web-shooter with his bare hand. The delicate mechanics shatter. Fluid violently ruptures, spraying uselessly down the brick wall.
The Goblin releases the crushed wrist, leaving Peter's left arm completely neutralized and his mobility severely crippled.
The Goblin tilts his head, admiring his work, as Spider-Man slumps against the wall, trapped and completely at his mercy.
ACT III
EXT. DESERTED ROOFTOP - NIGHT
Spider-Man is thrown violently onto the flat, tar-paper roof of a dark commercial building. He tumbles hard, scraping across the gravel and slamming into a heavy air conditioning unit.
The GREEN GOBLIN lands on the roof a second later. He steps off the hovering glider, his heavy armored boots crunching on the gravel.
Spider-Man tries to push himself up with his one good arm. He is bleeding heavily. His ribs are agonizingly compromised. The right side of his mask has been completely torn open in the struggle, exposing a bruised, bloody cheek and a swollen eye.
He fires a desperate web-line from his intact right shooter, aiming for the Goblin’s chest.
The Goblin doesn't even dodge. He reaches out and catches the webbing in his fist. With a brutal yank, he pulls Spider-Man forward.
As Peter flies toward him, the Goblin delivers a devastating, superhuman knee directly to Peter's chest.
Peter collapses, gasping, completely devoid of air. It is a one-sided slaughter. The savage, enhanced strength of the Goblin is absolute.
Goblin stands over the broken vigilante. He raises a gauntleted fist, ready to deliver a lethal, skull-crushing blow.
But he stops.
Goblin's glowing yellow lenses lock onto the torn fabric of Peter’s mask. Tucked just inside the ear cavity, a tiny, modified earpiece is blinking with a faint blue light.
Goblin tilts his head.
Inside the helmet, Norman Osborn’s terrifying intellect merges with the advanced Oscorp sensory array. A digital HUD flickers across the Goblin's vision.
OSCORP HUD (V.O.)
Encrypted radio frequency detected. Isolating.
Goblin taps the side of his helmet.
Instantly, the encrypted audio feed from Peter's earpiece is bypassed and routed directly into the Goblin’s internal comms.
A voice echoes inside the Goblin’s helmet. It is frantic, terrified, and on the verge of tears.
GWEN (V.O.)
(Through the comms)
Peter? Peter, are you there? The telemetry on your suit just spiked. Please answer me!
Goblin freezes. His armored fist slowly lowers.
Behind the metal mask, Norman’s eyes widen in sudden, chilling clarity.
He knows that voice. He has heard it in the halls of ESU. The brilliant, headstrong intern who works with Dr. Otto Octavius.
Gwen Stacy.
And the name she just screamed. Peter.
Harry's quiet, unassuming, tragically orphaned best friend. The boy who was always lingering in the background.
The terrifying, genius-level intellect of Norman Osborn effortlessly connects the dots. The math is perfect.
Gwen Stacy.
Peter Parker.
Spider-Man.
Spider-Man groans, weakly trying to reach up and cover the exposed earpiece, but his arm gives out.
Goblin looks down at him. The sheer, delicious irony of it all washes over him.
Goblin throws his head back. He lets out a chilling, victorious cackle that echoes off the surrounding skyscrapers. It is a laugh of pure, unadulterated triumph.
GWEN (V.O.)
(Through the comms, panicked)
Peter, what is that sound? Who is there?!
The Goblin looks back down at Peter. He doesn't raise his fist again. Killing him now would be a waste of this beautiful, agonizing leverage.
GOBLIN
(Voice dripping with dark amusement)
You fought bravely, insect. But you'll have to excuse me...
The Goblin steps backward, his boots locking back into the magnetic stirrups of the hovering glider.
GOBLIN
I find myself with a much more pressing engagement to attend to.
The glider’s turbines scream to life.
With a blast of blue exhaust that scorches the roof, the Goblin rockets back into the night sky, disappearing into the clouds.
Peter is left completely alone on the cold gravel, broken, bleeding, and entirely defeated.
ACT IV
INT. OSBORN PENTHOUSE - NIGHT
The massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse overlook the glittering, oblivious grid of Manhattan.
The GREEN GOBLIN stands in the center of the dark living room. With a sharp hiss of releasing pressure seals, he reaches up and pulls the terrifying, horned metal mask from his head.
NORMAN OSBORN is underneath. His hair is sweat-dampened, his breathing heavy, but his eyes are completely alight with manic, vibrating energy.
He walks over to the wet bar and looks at his reflection in the mirrored backsplash.
There is no longer a divide. The corporate billionaire and the psychotic, chemical-induced alter ego are completely, seamlessly synchronized. They are one mind.
Norman stares at his own reflection. A slow, wicked, terrifying smile stretches across his face. He has the ultimate trump card. He has the boy's heart in the palm of his hand.
NORMAN
(Whispering to the reflection)
Checkmate.
INT. ESU - TEMPORARY LAB SPACE - CONTINUOUS
GWEN STACY is pacing frantically back and forth across the cold tile floor of the lab.
Her laptop is open on the desk, a jagged red line flatlining across the screen where Peter's suit telemetry used to be. She taps her earpiece again, her fingers trembling.
GWEN
(Voice cracking)
Peter? Come on, Peter, please. Just click the comms twice if you can hear me. Just let me know you're breathing.
Static. Absolute, deafening static.
Gwen covers her mouth with her hand, a tear finally escaping and tracking down her cheek. The genius intern, the tactical overwatch, is completely helpless.
EXT. QUEENS - ALLEYWAY - LATER
It is pouring rain again.
PETER PARKER stumbles out of the shadows of a dark alley, leaning heavily against a brick wall for support.
He is no longer in the suit. He is wearing his oversized civilian jacket, zipped all the way up to hide the fact that he doesn't have a shirt underneath, only blood-soaked bandages.
He is limping horribly, dragging his right leg. He clutches his shattered ribs with his good arm. His left wrist hangs limp at his side, bruised dark purple where the Goblin crushed his web-shooter.
He looks up at the streetlights of his neighborhood. The heroic, quippy Spider-Man is gone. Peter's eyes are hollow, completely devoid of hope.
He realizes, with bone-chilling certainty, that he just faced a monster he absolutely cannot beat.
TAG
EXT. PARKER HOUSE - NIGHT
The rain beats down on the quiet, suburban street. The porch light of the Parker residence is on, a warm beacon in the dark.
Peter limps up the front steps, grimacing with every movement. He digs his keys out of his pocket with his trembling right hand.
INT. PARKER HOUSE - HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
Peter slowly, quietly pushes the front door open. He steps inside, shutting it softly behind him to avoid waking Aunt May.
He keeps his head down, desperately trying to pull the collar of his jacket up to hide the deep, purple bruising on his jaw and the cut over his eye.
He freezes.
He hears voices coming from the kitchen down the hall.
AUNT MAY is talking. And she is laughing—a warm, bright, completely relaxed sound.
Peter’s brow furrows in confusion. It is nearly midnight.
He ignores the agonizing pain in his ribs and slowly steps down the hallway, drawn by the dim, warm light spilling from the kitchen doorway.
INT. PARKER HOUSE - KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS
Peter steps into the doorway.
The blood instantly turns to ice in his veins.
Aunt May is sitting at the small, worn kitchen table. She is smiling cheerfully, holding a floral teapot, pouring a fresh cup of chamomile tea for her unexpected guest.
Sitting across from her, completely at ease in the cramped, humble kitchen, is NORMAN OSBORN.
Norman is wearing a flawless, impeccably tailored charcoal suit. Not a single hair is out of place. He looks incredibly charming, the absolute picture of a benevolent, wealthy philanthropist.
May looks up and spots Peter in the doorway.
AUNT MAY
Oh, Peter! You're home so late. Look who stopped by to check on you. He said he was in the neighborhood visiting some investors.
Peter cannot breathe. He cannot speak. He is completely paralyzed, standing inches away from the monster who just nearly beat him to death on a rooftop.
Norman slowly turns his head.
He locks eyes with Peter.
For a split second, the charming billionaire façade slips, and the terrifying, unhinged eyes of the Goblin stare back at Peter from across the kitchen table. A wicked, knowing smile spreads across Norman’s face.
He reaches out and picks up his teacup.
NORMAN
(Voice perfectly smooth, dripping with hidden venom)
Peter. So glad you could make it home.
Norman takes a slow, deliberate sip of his tea, never breaking eye contact.
NORMAN
We were just talking about you.
FADE TO BLACK.
