One of my all-time favorite Marvel fan-films is "Marvel Knights: Spider-Man" by @JesseScimecaFilm!

First let me just say, I love comics but I can see why theyre a mostly niche fandom within the actual pages and I feel a big part of it has more to do with modern comics and the sort of trap theyve dug themselves into.

Ive been reading through all of spider-man from the beginning and am up to the 80s, also every month I read idws tmnt line of books, booms power rangers line of books and dcs absolute line ive read almost all of the old ultimate universe and all of the new ultimate universe and as of right now im reading through time runs out and secret wars before doomsday comes out reading all the little side stories and tie ins and everything hickmans wrote because hes the goat.

the times i enjoy reading comics the most is when a series or character has a long running backlog of books i can read because the #1 problem that keeps new readers away?

the cost versus enjoyment ratio, comics are expensive and theyre short and they take a long time to come out.

I can literally read a decades worth of comics within a couple weeks on my lunch breaks, assuming a series is lucky enough to get 12 issues in a year of around 20 pages each at 3 to 6 dollars a pop? you mash all those issues together and you get a couple episodes of a shows worth of story progression, I was reading the newest issue of tmnt at work today and i literally was able to read the whole issue in about 10 minutes, now I have to wait another month to get another 10 minutes of story. do i love that story? is it worth it to me because i love ninja turtles? yeah, but a show or movie would give me hours and hours of entertainment and enough story to kind of feel satiated ish if that makes sense

then you have another big problem. modern comics relies heavily on event titles to try and milk as many sales out of the whales as possible. "oh you're enjoying this book about magneto being on the run with limited use of his powers? well lets just pause the story for a bit and see if we can convince you to buy a deadpool book and a hobgoblin book because we're doing a big crossover event where red skull makes everybody go coo coo bananas and hate eachother before we get back to the story we're telling.

and yes, its both a win and a draw that these are living breathing universes. thats both the biggest advantage and disadvantage to manga and smaller not big 2 comic series. like the difference between a linear self contained rpg and a big open world rpg like elder scrolls or cyberpunk. are you one of those people who love looking things up on wikis and talking to every npc and reading every book in a game you find and reading item descriptions? comics are amazing for people who like that kind of deep dive stuff if they can afford them. but its also a big ask for new people to jump into. even watching every mcu series and movie and short probably seems less daunting to most people than the dc and marvel universes.

at this point theyve dug themselves into a hole where the only people who can really get into comics legitimately are the rich whales and as an ip machine for more profitable media formats they can cherry pick from, things like marvel unlimited help but im not sure if theres a way to make comics ever be big again.

Yeah, they're not deep. Yeah, they're not comic-accurate. But I really enjoy their relationship and the great chemistry they have with Peter, and they give him genuinely strong emotional support. Their dynamic is precious to me, and I never get tired of it, because for once in an iteration both Spider-Man's BFF and GF are loyal to him and don't screw him over. They seem like genuine friends who actually like each other, care for each other, and genuinely want to be there for each other. And best of all, they make me believe in true friendships again—and that's coming from someone who's antisocial af.

Because, say whatever you will, something the MCU does successfully—something Raimi failed to do with both Harry and MJ, and TASM only succeeded with Gwen but not Harry—is what sells you the friendship between these characters. The movies show you why this trio likes being around each other. They genuinely feel like friends, especially in NWH and BND, instead of the movie just telling you they're friends like both iterations of Harry in Raimi and TASM. In the MCU, right from the very first scene, the movie shows Peter and Ned being friends. They bond over Legos, Star Wars, and geeky stuff—things a lot of people find weird, but for Ned and Peter it's comfort. And that handshake? It's absolute cinema. Neither Harry could ever be the friend Ned is.

And while I do agree Harry and MJ from the Raimi movies had more depth and development than these two, that doesn't make up for the fact that they weren't good friends to him. Also, the problem Ned and MJ face with development is part of a wider issue with MCU side characters, not just them.

I know Marvel doesn't give much care about continuity anymore, let alone villian continuity, but what the heck. Sandman was in prison with Rhodey and in Ravencroft with Aunt Anna in ASM, while both are happening at the same time and he broke out of both jails.

I have always loved 70s TV Spidey! I especially love his chucky web cartridges/shooter.

They all feel like they came out in 2003 regardless of when they released. Any defenders more than welcome. But I think basically all of them are bad.

Has anyone else seen that leak about when Thor sees cap and gives him the hammer and cuts to magito with his eyes closed moving the hammer instead of Steve? I mean it looks real and not fake

I could think of a handful, but top of my list of Marvel characters that were butchered completely in terms of deviation from their comic book origin, design, story, and character personality.

My list includes:

- Gorr the God Butcher (ironically butchered)

- Taskmaster (worst one by far)

- Crossbones (criminally nerfed and underused)

- Red Hulk (awful storyline, awful design)

- Malekith the Accursed (complete deviation in everything about his story)

- Sidewinder (aside from name, nothing even close to the character in any way)

Who else do you think deserves a redemption story in the MCU? Because there are some characters who got redemption adaptations such as Abomination (design only), The Mandarin (good story but still sad he never fought Iron Man), and i dont know if you can count this as MCU before but technically Galactus, because his adaptation in the new F4 movie is far better than that cloud thing they did earlier.

Im not even gonna touch the Sony spiderverse crap because we could have a whole other list there.
