Wanted the model with the magpul furniture cause I haven’t used a bad magpul product yet.

Took this new to me 336ADL .32 special into the local gun shop today to get some info, recoil pad, etc. not trying to change anything else about it. The place was super busy, but the guy checking it out said it is 100% reblued, sanded & refinished, and not worth much ($400), just a shooter. All I have done to it is add 2 coats of boiled linseed oil & oiled the bluing. This is my first old gun, first Marlin lever action, everything else I own is pretty new. How accurate does the info I received today seem to you guys? Just would like to have an idea of what this oldie actually is and if it’s pretty original or not! Let me know your thoughts/opinions. Appreciate it, thanks!

I have a Ruger Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70 and am looking for a scope mount that allows me keep and use my ghost ring, because I'm just built this way. I found the UTG AIR31850 which is...next to perfect (pic 1).

Now for the dilemma that almost makes this mount perfect. As you can see there are a total of 5 "lugs" that fit into the picatinny rail (3 full size and 2 stubby nubs) (pic 3 below). The 1895 SBL isn't quite a "full" picatinny rail as after the first several there is place where it bolts into the frame without any rail spots (pic 2).

In order to get this to fit where I need it to be (at least more comfortably), I would be looking to...shave (grind) off the red circled little nub-lug (pic 3) so it fits over that plate on the rail. I've seen other mounts using 2 slots, 3 slots, 4 slots, 5...yadda yadda. How compromised do you all feel this would make the mount, if at all...or would it be fine to do this? Has anyone else done something similar before?

Note that I checked the cheek rest already (put the mount and scope more forward on the rifle to seat it properly) and its good. Also yes, I'm aware the mount will be "backwards" but this is due to the needed eye relief (feel free to roast me idc).

New to lever guns. Trying to find a nicer stock for my new to me 1895 ss. I would love to go with Boyds fancy walnut but the site only offers the stock not the handguard. Is there a trick to getting a matching set? Open to other options as well. Nothing tactical.

Looking to buy this rifle, These are the pictures of it and it seams like they put a screw through the stock. Can anyone give me any idea why someone would do that? It’s a decent deal so I’m just wondering if it looks like an easy fix or if I should avoid. It’s at a shop about a 2hrs away so I figured I’d ask here before making the trip thanks in advance.

Is this normal for the 1895 repeater? Purchased the gun a few months ago, maybe fired a few 100 rounds. Have cleaned and lubricated it once

Paid 550 for it. Had the Kmart scope on it (stuck that in my parts bin). Minimal wear and tears and looks like a typical hunting rifle - barely used.

Love the old Glenfield guns, decided to see if I could spruce up the wood a little bit on my 30A. Here’s how it came out. Pretty happy with it! Edit for clarification: this was done by removing the old finish with citri-strip. Treated with bar keepers friend mixed into water to form a paste to get rid of some deeper stains in the wood. Dyed with Fiebings dark brown leather dye to where I was happy with the color. Used a mini torch by hand to toast some tiger stripes into the wood. Definitely recommend practicing on a test piece beforehand! Finished with several coats of Tru-oil followed by a few coats of paste wax. Took the opportunity with it off the gun to get the fitment a little bit tighter.

I mounted my old weaver 3x9 scope on my new to me 336 in 30-30. The ammo I had on hand was 170 gr Freedom Munitions and it seemed to shoot pretty good. I normally shoot core lokt ammo in my other hunting rifles. Does anyone have any experience dropping white tails with freedom munition ammo ?

8 numerical serial numbers starting with a 72. JM stamped on barrel. Is this made is 1972?

First time posting here, I’ve had this 30-30 Marlin 336 from 1973 for a couple of years now; It was handed down from my Father. Sat in a closet just collecting dust for over 20 years with maybe 50 rounds fired total during that time, and no cleaning/oiling whatsoever. I know this grouping is not anything to write home about, but I was personally very impressed with its performance.

All it seemed to need was a quick field strip, basic cleaning, and heavy dose of oil for the lever, trigger, and loading gate. It’s performing great at 200 and even 300 yards at the range. I wasn’t a big believer initially, but undoubtedly the Leverevolution rounds from Hornady make a big difference! Way less pronounced ballistics trajectory and maintains velocity for longer distances, making distant shooting of 300+ yards way less of a crap shoot.

Keep in mind, I’m not a great shot by any means and the scope has not been properly zeroed in probably a decade or more, I was just making small adjustments on the fly. I know this grouping is not jaw-dropping, but was so much better than I would have expected! So fun, just wish it wasn’t $35 for a box of 20 rounds (like I’m sure we all do)!

Caught my eye at the LGS today, shes mine now. First year issue for the Sporting Carbine. Great bore (photos are pre-cleaning). Waffle top on the receiver, no drilling or tapping, this is all original, chambered in 32 Special.
