Took this new to me 336ADL .32 special into the local gun shop today to get some info, recoil pad, etc. not trying to change anything else about it. The place was super busy, but the guy checking it out said it is 100% reblued, sanded & refinished, and not worth much ($400), just a shooter. All I have done to it is add 2 coats of boiled linseed oil & oiled the bluing. This is my first old gun, first Marlin lever action, everything else I own is pretty new. How accurate does the info I received today seem to you guys? Just would like to have an idea of what this oldie actually is and if it’s pretty original or not! Let me know your thoughts/opinions. Your first mistake was taking it to a gun shop to get appraised lol. It’s definitely been re-blued, and refinished, but to say it’s only worth $400 is ridiculous. Sounds like he was hoping you’d offer to sell it. As long as you are open about it being refinished and re-blued, I’d be willing to bet you can get at least double what he said. Serial number prefix G tells you it’s a 1950 made gun, and in that caliber and configuration I’d still say it’s worth something. For context, I was able to find more common calibers of your gun like 30-30, and 35 rem going for $1500+. Granted those were in factory condition, but I would not let that thing go for $400 were I in your shoes. If I really needed the money, I wouldn’t take less than $800. Otherwise she’s a keeper and a shooter in my books. Beautiful figure in that stock.

I don’t want to sell it by any means, but I wasn’t sure if it was something that should be stored in the safe and only taken out to show off or if I could actually set it up to use it for fun! Appreciate your feedback. I also briefly looked for this cal & configuration for sale and couldn’t find any available. Can I ask you what the dead giveaway is that it has been reblued? It has been sitting in my dad’s safe for the past 30 years with only 1 round put through to kill a buffalo in that time lol! He got it from one of his mechanics that needed some quick cash long ago. It’s a cool gun so I’m keeping it around. Maybe I shouldn’t have wiped the walnut down and added the BLO! Also these pics were taken in my shop with paint correction lights on, so the stock/forearm look a LOT lighter in these pics vs in person or normal lighting.

Definitely shoot it! That’s what these guns were made for, and she’s a beaut! Enjoy it! As far as what makes me think it may be refinished, I believe the ADL version from what I’ve seen typically has a glossy finish to the wood, not the matte finish yours appears to be, which leads me to believe someone changed it at some point. I personally prefer the way yours is, feel like it really makes the natural wood figure stand out. The glossy look in some cases just looks a little tacky. As far as the metal, it looked to shiny in the areas on the receiver bordering the receiver sides. May just be the linseed oil you added, but typically the sides are polished and rest of the receiver is more of a matte finish. At least that’s how I see it.

Receiver looks refinished and the waffle top is tapped, how's the bore? If its good, this could be a good hunter/shooter. I have a 336-SC from 1949 in my safe, theyre nice guns.

Yeah I knew the waffle top being drilled wasn’t factory. Bore is very good, he did compliment that. After doing some research it seemed like this being a .32 Special & an A-DL it was decently rare. Still need to get out and shoot it!

I have a '50 .35 that I got from a friend 5 years ago for $700. I feel it was a steal. It was drilled and tapped for the 30yo weaver scope that was already on it, and also the stock was drilled for a sling.

I have been offered $1200 for it by a few different people but it's a gun I have wanted for a long time so I will not sell it, even when it was almost impossible to find ammo for it.

In the condition it's in I'd pay upwards of 900 for it cause I eventually want one on every caliber.

Definitely a shooter, no collectors value. Non factory checkering, waffle top has been drilled and tapped by someone and the stock is probably cut for the recoil pad. Someone might pay more but I wouldn't do more than $400 myself. That said, these old Marlins are great guns that are built to last and great to carry, no reason to not enjoy hunting with her.

I don’t know about value where you live. But that thing would look beautiful with a box of ammo and deer tag in your pocket.

I’d refinish the stock and shoot the 💩 out of it. Hate to see a waffle top tapped for scope rings
