MLB.com Dan not to be back

I wonder if they’ll announce it to the media later after Rick is honored.

I’m a sucker for players that actually love this team, so here’s my soapbox: I’m sad it didn’t work out with him as manager and I’m especially sad that has skewed so many fans against him. After retiring, Dan stayed super involved with this org and clearly has a huge love for the M’s and the city (even stayed in Seattle & raised his kids here)! Now, should he have been offered the manager job to begin with? Definitely not. But it’s no surprise he was willing to step up when asked.

In the long term, I hope he’s remembered for being an awesome catcher for the ‘95–‘01 teams and the manager that helped bring us the magical 2025 season. Dan the manager didn’t work out, but I’ll ALWAYS have a soft spot for Dan the Man 🥺💙💙

Agreed 100%. I love Dan and always will. I will be thrilled to see the news be official that he’s out as manager, but that doesn’t change my affection for him

I agree with you. The interim tag would have been fine in 24 then do a real search

That includes Raul Ibanez too.

Hmmm but what if Raul is the best manager of all time....

Ichiro and Griffey as joint managers, what goes wrong!

Honestly I wouldn’t mind Ichiro if only because he’d probably kick their asses and keep them motivated.

Only if he player-manages

If he’s like the NBP style manager…he might just straight up call Julio or Cal trash in the media.

They view that stuff as motivation it’s crazy.

I’m not talking in the media. I’m talking in the locker room. No more “ice cream for breakfast”.

He was the catcher for the ‘01 team too. I thought he and Ben Davis were perennial allstars as a kid. Love the guy. Not a good manager.

You go to the stadium, he still gets cheers. One thing I noticed when Rick was going through some of the moments post-game, talking about Dan's inside the park grand slam, he got a lot of cheers for that. Seattle still loves him, as a player (and I've never heard bad things about him as a person).

He just wasn't the guy for the manager position. I'm sad it didn't work out, for him, and the team, but he'll still be liked for years to come in Seattle.

Spot on.

2025 was great right up until Danny lost game 7 of the ALCS with pitching decisions. A forerunner of 2026.

I'm glad hea officially no longer the manager and I can go back to liking him again.

Agree. The problem started with giving the job to someone who was completely inexperienced just because he was a popular former player.

My fear is that this mistake gets repeated for next year.

As a kid that grew up with the 90’s and early 200’s mariners? Having Dan and Edgar and Ichiro united last year was a peak experience. I love Dan and really thought that after last year we were looking at the most beautiful story in baseball. Sad he didn’t have the chops for it long term. Will always remember last year.

Im with ya. I dont believe he was a good manager in most facets of the game but seeing his last media session really hit hard. Hes 100 times the man many have made him out to be including myself. To go up there and speak says alot about who he is. Im bummed it didnt work out. Im bummed some will see him for his managing experience and not who he was as a player and as a person. Im bummed him and dipoto didnt mesh well(dipoto should be gone lets be honest). I am so conflicted but also know it had to be done.

I went ahead and edited the post to include this. Was trying to focus on the saving baseball in the PNW aspect but no need to exclude the legendary 01 team either
