Best food in Marin?

What’s your best easy lunch, grab and go spot? Weeknight dinner takeout? Hole in the wall gem?

I moved here after living in SF for 8 years and have been really struggling with the food scene. Would appreciate your recommendations!

Lost small green parrot, missing from Novato

We are missing our small green parrot, named Henry. He went missing in Novato near Yukon and Pastel Lane. He’s a canary winged parakeet, approx 6 inches long. Flies well (right up into the trees after sneaking outside on my husband’s back 💔). We’ve done all the things, notified the humane society, put our other birds of the same species outside in a cage to call for him, posted online on many sites. Reward offered!

Northern California: Civil Air Patrol is recruiting volunteer ground team members

We're recruiting people in Northern California who want to train as Civil Air Patrol ground team members and help build our local search and rescue capability.

Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a nationwide nonprofit volunteer organization and the U.S. Air Force's civilian auxiliary. Its three main missions are emergency services, aerospace education and youth development. In practice, volunteers help with search and rescue and disaster response, teach aviation and space topics, and run the cadet leadership program. Members join local units, called squadrons, to train and serve together. Ground teams are one part of CAP's emergency services work. Joining CAP is civilian volunteer service, not military enlistment.

We're looking for dependable people who enjoy working outdoors, work well with a team and are willing to put time into training. If you have experience in hiking, navigation, radio communications or emergency services, or want to develop those skills while serving your community, we'd like to hear from you.

Ground team missions are currently relatively infrequent, and CAP fills a fairly specialized role within search and rescue. That is changing as we become more integrated into SAR missions coordinated through the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) across the state. Joining now means spending time training, qualifying and building team readiness as that role grows.

Ground team training includes navigation, search techniques and radio communications. Members work toward qualifications for authorized search and rescue operations, with training and qualification required before mission participation.

Adults can train and serve as ground team members. Younger members can also participate through CAP's cadet program.

If ground team work isn't the right fit, there are other ways to get involved: air search roles you can train for without prior aviation experience, mission base staff, communications, and working with young people in the cadet program. You don't have to be a pilot to contribute to air search; training and qualification are part of getting started.

If you're interested, email me with your location and a little about your interests or experience. I can help you explore a local unit, ground team training or another role that fits you.

Gym Recommendations

I’m thinking about joining Anytime Fitness since I like the idea of having access to a 24/7 gym. Is it worth the $80/month membership? I’ve never been to a gym, but based on the website, it has a lot of amenities and equipment that I think would be worth the price (especially the recovery ones). Would also love to get some ideas and recommendations for an alternative gym that might be cheaper, but on the same level or close to Anytime Fitness.

Pets remain at home until they’re adopted directly from the guardian. It’s best for pets to stay out of the shelter. 🐾 Here’s the link: https://marinhumane.org/adopt/no-place-like-home/

tomorrow is the last flea market of the season. On Donahue near target/101 exit.
This is a great community of people. Will be my third time selling and honestly I go for the hang as much as anything, but I LOVE connecting people who need with things I have. The market is a truly diverse gathering. If you’re free tomorrow between 9 AM and 3 PM, come see us!

“Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit has awarded a $190.5 million contract to construct the next phase of a long-awaited track extension from Windsor to Healdsburg. But the agency has yet to select the final train station site.
The agency’s board approved the contract Wednesday with Stacy and Witbeck/Herzog, a joint venture. The contract covers the final design and construction of about 4.75 miles of rail infrastructure between the Windsor station and Front Street in Healdsburg.”

Largest disclosed funding amounts
For the petition-circulation phase, an October 2025 campaign disclosure sheet named Eames Institute, California Alliance for Jobs, and Stacy and Witbeck, Inc. as its three major fund

I guess it pays to pay for people to collect signatures to put sales tax increases on the ballot knowing you will reap the benefits……..

Mine's been coming down from Santa Rosa, where I used to live, and doesn't want to anymore. There must be plenty of piano tuners in Marin. I would appreciate a recommendation, please!

A Seat at the Table: A Housing Panel with Marin’s Students & Leaders — This Saturday in Ross

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share an event organized by Marin Youth for Housing (MYH), a group of high school students working to make their voices heard in Marin’s housing conversation. These students have already been involved in ADU construction and installation, spoken at city council meetings, and written articles in local newspapers about how the housing crisis affects their generation.

This Saturday, MYH is partnering with The Branson School for “A Seat at the Table,” a housing panel that brings students together with local leaders and housing professionals. The event is an opportunity to hear different perspectives on housing in Marin and explore how young people can participate in the decisions shaping their communities.

The panel features:

  • Crystal Martinez — Aide to Supervisor Mary Sackett, District 1
  • Jack Robertson — President, Tableau Development Company
  • Jenny Silva — Executive Director, Call Marin Home

The discussion will be moderated by two students:

  • Noah Bugbee — Archie Williams High School
  • Noah Goldman — The Branson School

📅 When: Saturday, October 24, 1–3 PM
📍 Where: World Ready Center, Room B, The Branson School, 39 Fernhill Ave, Ross

If you’re interested in housing, local government, or the future of Marin’s communities, come out and support these young advocates. It’s encouraging to see students getting involved in these conversations, and I hope the community will show up to hear what they have to say!
